It seems like all these different groups are merely speculating and one of them is bound to be right eventually...

I'm getting sick of this. Is everyone just guessing a date? Everyone knows an update is due, and what hardware should probably be included in the updated. But I'm to the point where it seems all these 'sources' are just people making a guess and passing it around.

This could turn into the Mac Pro update doldrums. We knew what new processors and gfx cards that could have been added, as well as ram and hdd needing to stay current. We knew these updates HAD to com, yet a year and a half later, they still hadn't. Could it be the MBP's turn to wait till Montevenia, or even till 4 core mobile procs get released a lot later? Apple sure is finicky and I don't like the foreboding sense the wait is giving me.

BRING IT ON APPLE!

And make sure that it's a true performer with real high end specs, like dual HDDs, two FW400/800 ports and BTO options like broadband and SSDs on the 17" model at least.

Unless PC laptops with Penryn processors start shipping en masse and/or there is a significant drop off in the sales of the existing MBPs, I really see no reason for Apple to even announce the new models. AFIK, the former has not yet happened. As for the latter, well, there is only a handful of people at Apple that know this type of stuff, and they're not gonna talk, not if they value their jobs.

I'm growing more and more pessimistic that we'll see anything new this month :(

Hurry !
Today I am taking back a Macbook Pro that I bought 13 days ago.
This speculation in driving me crazy. Just realize the next update or announce that it will not be for several months, so people like me can move on with their lives.

I agree. It seems like everyone is just taking a shot in the dark at this point.

"mysterious voodoo source says MBPs are due (insert upcoming Tuesday or Friday date here)."

No more getting my hopes up until its on apples hot news page.

The update will definitely be on....*spins the big wheel*

For years I toiled unthinkingly under the PC yoke, and now, just when my eyes have opened to the possibility of something better, and I set my sights on a MBP, I get caught up in a rousing game of "Guess When Steve Will Let Us Have a Shiny New Toy."

Now I know that I haven't been waiting nearly as long as some of you. I've been reading these speculation threads long enough to have seen posts by people who have been waiting since last summer. But, under the best of circumstances, I'm not a patient person (just ask my wife), and when a new toy is involved, forget it.

Like a lot of other people, I will continue to wait...but I don't want to. I'm ready to make the switch, so give it to me. If nothing else, it will release us from the roller coaster of threads like this one, where every other day we've got a new date to pick apart.

I was about to purchase a MBP this month and now seeing that all this is going on I'm thinking about waiting a few more weeks. Does anyone know if I do go buy the current MBP at the stores if the prices will drop when the new one comes out (Will I be able to get the difference back if it's within the first few weeks)? I just don't want to go pay $3000- on a notbook only to see the next week it drop to $2000- ya know?

Only within the return window, so I believe that's two weeks. Outside two weeks, or maybe a month, you're stuck. Give Apple a quick call and ask what their price protections are.

Maybe if you buy it from a third party you'll get a better price protection deal

I HIGHLY doubt Apple will lower the price points for the MBPs (well, maybe the 17" but not the 15")...so I don't think you'll encounter this situation.

I really hope they'll come on the 5th, but I'm starting to doubt it because of all the MacBook Air displays they're putting up… it could be too soon for them to launch the Pro now? …So, the 12th may sadly be a good guess… :(

Don't buy now. You're throwing away money and ensuring buyers remorse if you do.

Thanks for the quick reply and info. Damn, and no one knows the price range for the new macbook pro's yet right?

they will be the same as the current price range (they don't change with updates)

if you need something cheaper, maybe you should look into getting a macbook or waiting until the new ones come out and buy an older refurbished model

Probalby not going to see Dual HDD's... apple has been pushing external HD's so I doubt they would see the need for to HDD's unless the 17" allows for a SSD and a HDD, so you could place your OS and apps on SSD and all your content in the HDD

It's my fault !!!

Sorry guys ::eek:, all this is my fault. Usually, new updates arrived the day after I place an order and received the new toy... since I didn't place any MBP order so far, the update/new version of MBP cannot be released... :( it's Murphy's law and you can't go against it. So here is the point, I know that all of you are tired of waiting, what about sending me money thru paypal so I could place an order of the old MBP ? That way the update will arrive the day after I received it. :p The sooner the better !!!
