MacBook Pro Launch February 12th?

Oh yes. This must be the reason.

Honest Abe, your birthday is such an Important event. I just want to sit in my house and pray all day. I'll start by waking up early, putting on a abe lincoln costume and hat, flying to D.C. to see your memorial, then going to dinner and dancing for your celebration. Yes, and even a Birthday Cake with all 199 candles on it. I will be so so so busy with all the Planning, Partying, and Cleaning that i will be exausted by the time its all over. I coudlnt even imagine going to the local apple store or even the world wide web (which you dont know what that is yet since you are prehistoric) and purchasing a new MacBook Pro. Hell, I might just spend all my hard earned money I saved for it for a birthday present for you.

Looks like this is deffiantly the reason Apple will not release the New MBP on the 12th. Sorry "HardMac" your prediction is without merit.

Americans value their three-day weekends more than honoring presidents on their proper birthdays, so the government and business holiday is Presidents Day, on the 3rd Monday in February, rather than on Lincoln's or Washington's actual birthdays.

This year Presidents Day is February 18, so Apple has our permission to take the 12th!
 
New MacBook Pros will be released the Tuesday after 10.5.2 is released.

(I thought it would be released today, but so far, my software update says no.)

We stopped celebrating Washington and Lincolns birthday and rolled them together into the floating presidents day to make room for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

I don't think Macbook Pros will release for awhile. There are not even enough Penryns.

I am not sure that having enought Penryns would be a reason for a delay. Didn't apple just get Intel to design a new chip for them. Hoarding a supply of chips for apple is much easier for Intel to do.
 
Question,
I know new MBP is due pretty soon. But do you think new MBP will have new design or just minor hardware upgrade?
If it will come out with totally new design, I think I will buy it definitely, but if not, I think it's better to wait for next one.
If I can...

the majority of speculation here on this board says that at the most, this update will include a minor processor bump and a POSSIBLE video card upgrade at best. However, in all honesty you know as much as we do about this
 
Why am I so frickin addicted to following these threads - I don't even have the money for a MBP purchase yet! I will probably not even be buying till late summer.

But still... I can't turn away... "these rumors are making me anxious!"
(said like the famous Seinfield 'these pretzels are making thirsty' line)

it won't be the 12th since that's 2 days before valentine's day in the u.s. as well. there is no way steve jobs will allow himself to be overshadowed by the eve-eve of st. valentine's day!

it is also 1 day after national foundation day in japan!!!! :eek:

Actually the two are not related. Lincoln's Birthday is not and was never a federal holiday. The first move to combine Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays into a single federal holiday came in 1968. This never officially happened, but the current observance of Washington's Birthday on the third Monday of February began in 1971. "Presidents Day" as an umbrella term dates back to the 1980s and is generally credited to interests of our business community. Depending upon your state, what we know as Presidents Day may still be an observance to only Washington (Virginia) or one for multiple Presidents or other figures. (In Illinois we of course still have separate observances for Washington and Lincoln.)
 
ok this is my logical prediction

because the next chipset montineva will need a case redesign, why would apple bother to rediesign mbp for penryn

apple will just slip the penryn in, maybe up th hd and lower the price a fraction.....they are in no rush to get it out there as its only a minor update

for apple the big push will be the new design in sept

i dunno when the mbp update will come and i suspect apple done have an exact date yet either

now ive only every had macs, and i am patiently waiting
(feck...not so patient) for a mbp update

It's actually going to be the first Tuesday after the first full moon after ground hog's day (except in the southern hemisphere, then it's Wednesday).
 
Wow... the wait is getting ridiculous now. I really hope there are some visual changes in the new MBP.

Anyway, assuming the update happens in the next month and DOES NOT introduce a significant design change, when do you think we could see the Montevina update WITH A NEW DESIGN? I need a laptop before school in September and it would be perfect if there was a shiny new MBP ready for me during the back to school deal. Any thoughts? Approximate timeframe for Montevina?

they may quietly update the processor speeds without any fanfare. no need to go hog wild with in-store decorations for that. let them wait a few months for montevina to bring a case refresh with the new keyboard, and maybe new blu-ray drives (which would be more of a "montevideo" thing all around). just bring on the penryn updates now, so i can get on with my life already!

Good point actually! I definitely think Apple/Steve would like to have the new MBPs available for Valentine's day! … so, maybe the 5th after all? :)

in uk last mbp update they dropped the price ....$100 or more...because was a crap update from 2.16 to 2.2 ...????,... why bother ????
