I'm one of them who couldn't start ordering until xx:08 because the website didn't go up until then.
I bought an Apple gift card with cash the day before. I was online at exactly xx:00 (3am my timezone - made my next 2 days very hard due to odd sleeping patterns)..... I had the link to the website ready, my gift card number was already in a cut-paste buffer, address was set, I just had to do a few quick things.....
then I found out the website wasn't active - only people using the app could buy a watch at xx:00..... well, I tried the app, but it wouldn't allow me to use a gift card.
So, even though I was ready, I wasn't because Apple didn't allow the website to go live at the proper time.
I've used the app before, but only with credit cards. I didn't know gift cards didn't work there, I just assumed they did. Nice finding out they don't at 3:02am in the morning after preparing the previous day.
You and me both. I never thought to just use the app with a credit card and then just call apple and switch the payment to a gift card. But to be honest, I didn't realize the website was going to come up almost 10 minutes after the app went live.
The fact that apple doesn't allow you to use gift cards on the iOS app, but does allow you to add the gift card to passbook, is ridiculous.
I was up at 2:45 am, had the gift card number copy and pasted as well and had multiple browsers ready for action. It's too bad, but oh well.
Sheesh. Finally. One of my orders just switched to Preparing for Shipment. Figured I'd be excited, but I actually don't even care anymore. Here's my order information to update everyone:

Not sure when I was charged because I used Apple gift cards to pay.
Got a second order as a bday gift for my brother at xx:06:21 that is still processing. Will probably just give him this first one and sell the second to partially cover the cost.

That's the single reason I was in the 5 minute bunch. I was trying the website then said screw it and used the app. Finished checking out in seconds then called later to switch to gift card.

I'm seeing a lot of people in the central time zone get charged this morning. One of those planes is for us. It's time plus region, not just time ordered.

This seems to have really slowed down over the past 3 days. It looks like we are at the very end of the XX:04s and are working on the early to mid XX:05s.
Watching this thread is getting boring. I'm going to do something else for the next couple of days, lol.

That's roughly what my pre-authorization was but that was on the 11th. It dropped off after a day or two.
I'm right there with you..xx:05:56 confirmation and Apple says the received the order in their system at xx:05:51. Still nothing. Disheartening when I see the large amount of people charged in the early AM hours today. I really thought I would wake up to a charge but I was obviously wrong. Bummer.

Yes, similar story here (I'm in France). Was refreshing and refreshing until at least 9:07 (the Store was supposed to be ready at 9:01 here), but still getting an error message. I didn't think of going over to the app but even if I had I don't know if I would have been able to use my Amex card (have given up associating a card automatically with Apple/iTunes accounts since it invalidated 2 credit cards last year over a 2-month period - and this happened to 1000s of people at the time). Anyway, my actual order must have gone through at 9:08 or 9:09, though my e-mail confirmation is timestamped 9:17. (38mm SG BSB, still processing and delivery still showing as 12-26 May).
I feel Apples method is to trickle the orders through the beginning of the week and then do bulk shipments for Friday delivery. Just my thoughts on how they are shipping them
Same order time... Really hoping to see something soon...
