Are Mac users more self-centered and needy than Windows users?

Sorry, but I have to completely agree with that. It's the horrible, sad truth. 🙁

Wow thats insane. Someone back me up on that thread above though... I am not skinny and I hate starbucks! Why do people always hate on us mac users?? 😕
 
I find myself quite conceited on occasions, I can be quite arrogant on bad days, but I don't feel a need for recognition at all. Oh well, my iMac is still better than a PC.
 
More factoids: Mac users generally consider themselves superior to PC users. They are more likely to use teeth whitening products, buy organic food, purchase more shoes (an average of five pairs last year), frequent Starbucks and drive a hybrid car.

They also pay for music they find on the internet (50 percent versus 16 percent of PC users).

lol, five pairs of shoes a year?! i buy more than that a month!

i do shop at trader joe's almost exclusively, frequent starbucks, and drive an "overpriced economy car" but it's not a hybrid (volkswagen rabbit) but i've never used a tooth whitener. oh what, i did get some gel stuff once but it was a pain and only used it a couple times, haha.

and i gave up on trying to download free music long ago, i was using limewire and it was a huge pain and i could rarely find what i wanted anyhow. i just go straight to itunes for instant gratification now, even if it costs me $10.
 
I do believe that the fact that you felt the need to post this thread for some 'back up' answers the question!?

Having a superior operating system is not conceited at all - it's just simple, plain truth.

- I'm not conceited if I try to point out, loudly and proudly at times, that my Macintosh does not crash as do my friends' PCs;
- I'm not being boastful if I state with gracious simplicity that my Macintosh starts faster and runs quicker than 99% of everyone else's PC;
- I'm not being overly critical if I point out the miserable failings of my parents' PC when rendering type and not overheating or prioritizing background processes while I'm sending mail;
- I'm not being arrogant and self-centered if I compare my Macintosh to my brother's PC and state factually that my browser opens faster, my mail loads quicker and Spotlight searches better than Search;
- I'm not being pompous & prideful if I state that my Macintosh runs Windows XP faster than my fellowman's Dell or Sony;

Shall I go on?

Mac is better, it's not bragging if you're telling the truth. 😀
 
I think the problem is, a lot of Mac users are blind to the fact that Windows is better for many people. Why? Because it is a whole lot cheaper, and if all you do is check email it's not worth hundreds of dollars more.

How exactly do you measure "cheaper?"

It's true you can find a PC for $300, but it's not true that the same quality will be there.

I believe the saying goes, "Cheaper is more expensive in the long run."

Now I'm not saying that Macs are better than all PCs (I think IBMLenovo and Sony make good quality computers) but you do generally get what you pay for.

Anyways, back to the thread:

I think the "study" (I don't know if that's the word I'd use since it wasn't really cited on the page) did find some real truths.

Mac users do tend to be more "avant garde" than their PC brethren.

And who says that paying for music is "snobby?"

I thought honesty and integrity were good qualities. 🙄

No, the same quality will not exist in a $300 PC. But it will run Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office -- most people don't need much else. Plus, though the learning curve for OSX is better than that of Vista or XP, it's not worth the time for most people to relearn their daily routines.

If you're willing to pay extra for a more secure and superior overall operating system, and for looks, then a Mac is for you. I used to have arguments with Apple fans before I bought my last PC. If they had acknowledged what I just did, I would have switched already. It's just that a lot of Mac users either cover their eyes to or blatantly deny the existence of superior qualities on PCs and Windows.

Are Mac users more needy? I'd say no...we (or I, can't speak for everyone) just work more efficiently and faster, and experience less problems, with Apple products.

Are we more self-centered? I don't think so.

I'm guessing the the average Mac user is more wealthy than the average PC user...any data on this, anyone?

Sheesh. Cheaper? Only if one values at zero all the time spent pampering the Windows machine's bizarre registry behaviors, reading the ten pages of instructions on how to install some stupid driver so an ordinary device will get recognized, trying to uninstall something (good luck with that) and etc., etc.

And one could mention antivirus patrol, spyware patrol, rootkit patrol...

But course too many people don't seriously bother with security updates on their personal Windows laptops, and so their machines become a major part of the headache that is every corporate IT group's burden. Ask those guys how cheap a $400 laptop is if its unpatched goodies infiltrate the in house network.

If all one does is check email on an ill-maintained Windows machine, then all one does is automatically subject self and all correspondents (yes, one's dentist, mother in law, boss) to the threat of identity theft, machine crashes, zombie bot behavior...

How is that cheaper than getting a Mac and spending much less time keeping it in good shape? Doesn't anyone ever wonder while reinstalling Windows for the nth time whether his $400 laptop is such a good deal?

The thing is, most of this stuff doesn't happen to these people. You think they would keep buying PC's if all this happened all the time?

Most of the time,a PC does what it's supposed to do.
 
Conceit is merely perception. I am not conceited when I tell someone that they will be safer on a Mac. It is truth. That said, the people who buy the "cheaper" Windows PC will continue to pay me or someone else to clean up their PC's malware problems @ $50-$100 a pop. Then how cheap is it?

I used teeth whitening now I don't need to anymore, even with the amount of starbucks I drink. I do buy organic food, because I care about myself. More than 5 pairs of shoes? No, bc I am a guy I think. Hybrid, no never, I live for speed haha so I could never drive that thing.

Plus I don't know how to do my own laundry, so I have a friend to do that for me. I also have someone to make me dinner in case I can't find anything to eat either. haha I am stereotype.
 
Don't take the bait.

As a new visitor to this forum, and a future owner of a Mac, I think I can still see the forrest for the trees.

Mac folks tend to be different in a number of ways. None are bad (IMO). The problem with enumerating what (I think) the stereotypical Mac owner is like, is that there are exceptions to the rule; and those people would get annoyed at being painted with the same big brush.

Apple is very aware of the culture and demographics of most of its customers. Just look closely at the "Buy a Mac" ads. Young, layed-back hip guy versus well.... you get the point.

Don't worry, be happy.
 
I used to be real Gung Ho for Mac's right after I switched, now I've kinda gotten over it. I think Mac OS X is a better system, and I'll tell anybody that. But it's not perfect, and Windows does some things better, ( give me a day or two and I'll think of something). 😀

But you have to admit, twitting the PC fanatics is fun, and lends itself to the image of Mac Fan's as arrogant. Remember this old joke?

PC Guy: "Macs suck, they only have 5% marketshare!"
Mac Guy: "Yeah, but it's the TOP 5%"

PC guys just love that one!

Yeah a PC does exactly what it's supposed to do, as do all computers. My point is that Windows-based PCs are currently still more vulnerable to buying into a brand new "boss" at the drop of a virus-tagged email...

I think people keep buying PCs because they are shortsighted and are drinking the snake-oil of pitchmen who tell them something only "costs" X dollars.

Point of sale cheapness doesn't sell new cars all that well any more. It still works to some extent with computers.

But I think the switchers are gaining on the pitchmen... 🙂

Yes we are. Overall I believe it is because we pay a premium for nearly the same product that you could get elsewhere. It has to do mostly with the desire to use the Mac OS in my opinion. I just think it's a situation where there is a sense of entitlement here. Not everyone is that way, but many that I speak to are. Then again, I know people who don't give two ***** about computers and they're pretentious whores. 😉
 
I'd love to see the questions on this survey. It'd be interesting to see how they were worded, and whether or not that would affect the results.
 
haha, reminds me of that song "you're so vain" by carly simon.

i admit that i like nice things and can get materialistic at times. but having read a few posts on the MBA forum, i think i'm an amateur when it comes to vanity. 😛 in addition, some geniuses had shown me their holier-than-thou mentality a couple of times (to be fair, the same can come from other "knowledgeable" people).

also, i absolutely love folks who have their apple decals on the back of their cars (why in the world would anyone put a corporation's logo on his/her car, or sometimes skin?). they scream me > * as they cut everyone off without signaling. the best part is that some of them don't even know what tiger/leopard is cos they got their stickers from ipods/ebay. so i guess this douchetitude isn't really limited to some mac users only. 🙂

1. self centered, arogant, conceded = no, no, no
2. strong need for recognition = no
3. teeth whitening products = no (hmmm, maybe I need to)
4. sneaker purchases in 2007 = 3 pair
5. open personality = not sure what the deifinition is here, but probably
6. organic food = no
7. starbucks = once every 2 weeks on avg
8. Hybrid car = no, Dodge 2500 diesel quad cab 4x4....Tim-the-tool man groans
9. perfectionist = yes
10. pay for music = mostly
11. liberal = sometimes
12. democrat = mostly
13. more satisfied with Mac = hope so, will find out in about a week.

I am about to take the plunge with a new MB to be ordered on Monday and additionally wil be buying either a MBP or iMac...soon as I can compare with the new MBP. But i have run into a several people (ok 4 people) lately that were plain tired of the Microsoft SOP with instability issues, bugs, patches, etc, who are now owners of Macs....and they are all impressed as how the mac compares and are just plain happy. I don't think Mac owners are snobs, but probably Snobs tend to own Macs. Then again, maybe i'm in self denial since I'm a wanabe snob....er, wanabe mac owner.
