I have 171mm wrists. I bought a 45 and a 41. I kept the 45 and returned the 41. I asked a few friends what they thought and they all said the 45 looks right and the 41 looked a bit small.

I have no regrets.

Like most here, my opinion is the 45.

My first AW was a 38mm Series 3 in 2018 and I've had a total of nine Apple Watches since. The first seven were the smaller versions, 38, 40 and 41mm. My wrist measures right at 7 inches and I always considered my wrist to be small.

Last month I read through a few forums about opinions of the 41 vs 45 sizes. Many who have a smaller wrist than me wear the 45. I looked at pictures and all of a sudden my three current Series 7 41mm watches were looking small to me. (Some people say they look dainty.) Two weeks ago I ordered a 45mm Series 7 blue refurb from Apple. An hour later I had remorse and canceled the order. Two days later I ordered it again. I got it a day later and I absolutely love it. I have the ink color magnetic leather band on it which is great. Last week I figured I might as well trade my Series 7 SS gold 41mm for the Series 8 SS gold 45. I got the midnight magnetic leather band with that. Again, I absolutely love it. A pic is attached.

I wear an AW 24 hours a day and I monitor my sleep every night. Since the Series 8 can track my temp I've been wearing that to bed. I can't believe the larger, heavier 45mm SS watch doesn't feel any different that an aluminum 41mm while sleeping.

I also have a Series 7 41mm aluminum starlight that is my outside work watch and it was previously my sleep watch.

I say get want you're comfortable with. I appreciate the larger screen after wearing the small models for over four years. Good luck and.....sorry for the long ramble here.

Definetely go 45.
When hands lays down it’s like people see it (somebody wise here told that)

Additionaly you have bigger screen and depending on usage - maybe longer battery life

I doubt you will bump into things more with 45", and I think both look just as good on all wrist sizes. So, I'd take 45" for the bigger screen. I went from a smaller one to the bigger one, and it's now the new "normal" to me. And the bigger screen is easier to use.

Thank everyone for the replies. I can't believe there is really nobody in the 41 camp. Makes it really kinda hard for me, because what I like about the smaller one is the subtle stlye that really not does not get in the way at all. One should propably decisions on others' opinions but so many people pointing to 45 it makes you think. :)

Does anyone happen to have some real world comparison experience? Like going from 41 to 45 or vice versa for a a certain reason?
I did a change from S7 41mm to S8 45mm as AW was too small on wrist looking when hand was down but all ok when twisting-to-get-time pose.

Someone told WatchHead should not be close to 50% of wrist width as then it looks more like a feminine little watch-band. 41 on me was 60-70%.
Close to middle of both watches on this picture from someone on macrumors (40 vs 44mm thread)

At first 45mm feels huge but it looks for me and others around me better, it’s also more versatile (easier to type or read info) and I think comfortable as wrist bands are wider for it.

On both have had zero problems with jacket, polar or a shirt 👔
41 was lighter and easy to forget but due to this I hit things more times than with 45… weird but true.

Off topic:
I see you also have my “issue” of watches going into the wrist even with loose band - sadly that’s my wrist build of small muscle here and in my case a big bit of extra fat tissues stored around there…

Even tiny pressure from a finger causes skin coming deep into wrist to look for some people (we know who :D ) like a picture below of a second wrist (where I don’t wear a watch) :)

No worry there, wear it as you like but leave wrist some space as told already (I am aware it’s hard).

Thread for sorry-but-looks-meaty fans:

I downsized from the 44 to the 40. I find I bang it less often and yet still accomplishes everything. I'm a bigger guy and think the bigger watches make it look like people are wearing their dad's watch;)

Thank you all for your nice answers and insights. Today I received a "green" 45mm and wanted to share the new comparison with you guys. It's the 41's band on both watches for those wondering. They look almost identical on the pictures to me. Can you see a difference? :)

By the way I can really recommend the green one to everyone who wants to safe money in comparison to the midnight. You only see the green in direct light and then it also looks very nice.

And it gets a little crazier. A green 41mm is on the way because I have the chance to get that one for around 300€ (used, will have to wait to see how good the condition really is). The price is really tempting and does indeed play a role in my thought process. The 45mm is around 430€. If I end up liking the bigger one more or find it more usable I would still take that regardless of price though because I plan to use it longer so it should be a smart investment.

PS: Yes I know. I should propably loosen the bands more but I somehow automatically end up pulling them tighter. :)

They look the same size in these photos because one is a little further away from the camera? I like the 45 on you, but you need to buy the size that feels better to you and suits your needs.

Knowing myself there should be a click moment soon telling me what to do. Your answers play a role. One should decide for oneself but I like hearing people's opinions and this thread has helped me.

I bought my first Apple Watch a year ago and I figured out which watch model and size to buy just by reading the comments in MacRumors forums.

I wore the 41 (38) since 2015 (different generations of course). This year I switched to the 45 and I liked it so much I bought the 49mm Ultra..which I adore. I traded Series 8 watches with my daughter and she now has my 45mm and I now have her 41mm (and the ultra.). I wear the 41mm every night for sleep tracking, which works great, but I love the big screen of the Ultra for a daily driver. And I have very small wrists.

I wish I could wear the larger size watches for ease of use, but the some of the bands would be too long for me. I really like looking at everyone’s photos of their Ultras though. I think they have a beautiful design.

Hello everyone! :) Which one do you think fits me better? It's just about the size, not the color (if I choose the bigger one I propably won't keep the red but might switch to another 45, maybe green).

Concerns with the 45: Somehow I still sometimes have the feeling it's more "in the way/bumbing into things" if you what I mean. Wearing it for sleep tracking and tracking overall mainly. Looking too big.

Concerns with the 41: Maybe getting annoyed by the small screen/usability.

Be nice. Thank you. :DView attachment 2127124View attachment 2127125
You’re a man, get the larger watch. I don’t care how small my wrist was, I wouldn’t buy a petite watch.
