Just got the 45 SS and I loooove it! ...except not even 12 hours in and my wrist is hurting. Like I'm doing something else and distracted by the aching pain. Wondering if anybody else is having this issue.

I have a 40 SS that's worked well.
I also have a 44 Aluminum because I love the bigger screen.
Since no silver aluminum this round, thought I'd try the 45 SS.

However, I don't want to be in an abusive relationship, so I'm wondering if anybody is experiencing something similar or has any ideas on how to ease the pain.

One thought is to get the 41. Looking for pictures that compare the screens of 41 SS (s7) and 44 Al (s6). Would really appreciate any helpful thoughts!!

I have an Apple Watch on all the time except in the shower and I alternate wrists to avoid discomfort.

I’d like to better understand…what’s hurting? Where exactly? Is the band too tight? What type of band? Something else?

Good questions. :)

The pain is mostly a dull ache directly beneath the watch itself, as if I have a rock sitting on my wrist for an extended period.

Yesterday, after wearing a sport band for about 6 hours, including working out, I switched over to a sport loop. The loop seems to invite the watch to shift so its pressure from the weight shifts too. That helps, but I wonder if that’a a bad sign when you need to rely on your watch shifting.

Just woke up and pleased to report that it didn’t bother me or I didn’t notice it while sleeping, but now that awake I’m immediately feeling like again I have a rock bound to my wrist.

It could be I need to just give it time, to get used to the difference, like changing phone sizes.

Also, I normally change watches throughout the day. I seem to have developed a system with my other Apple watches (40 SS, 40 aluminum, 44 aluminum) in which I alternate through the day, (using the 44 Al for exercise and sleep, the 40 SS for work, the 40 Al for in between times) so the longer use of the bigger, heavier 45 SS is unusual. However, if I keep this one, I’d like to wear it more often, so I’d prefer to not have to just shift when pain sets in.

It’s more complicated than it ‘needs to be’, but a behavioral pattern developed and I’m trying to adjust that. Ultimately, I think I’m trying to figure out if I’m forcing something that I shouldn’t or things (like my wrist) just need time to adjust.

Your questions helped me analyze—thanks. Any thoughts?

Kind of fascinating. Pre-AW I used to wear a SS Rolex all day every day, so I guess I'm just used to the weight. I will say that I wear mine somewhat looser than I see other people do. I wear a HRM when I really care about my HR, so I don' t need the AW to be tight. Maybe try the 45SS one click looser to see how that feels?

Also surprised you're able to get >1 AW to swap gracefully. I tried but found that the process never worked well with my phone. I was always fussing with things to make sure that the correct watch was paired with the phone.

How long ago did you try? Auto Switch works flawlessly for me with my 3 paired watches.

You shouldn’t be experiencing any pain. That isn’t normal.
That's rather what I thought, but I'm wondering if it's liking going up in weight doing hamstring curls, you know it hurts the first couple of days, but then your muscles get used to it. Maybe I'm doing some non-athletic form of wrist curls. :)

You could have early carpal tunnel or some other medical problem that the bigger watch is making you aware of.

Interesting. Wonder when you tried the multiple AWs; I started with s5 because I couldn't decide which I wanted and then realized I enjoyed switching. Never had a problem with Auto Switch on my phone, so I wonder if you tried it now maybe the technology would be better?

Yeah, if you were wearing an SS Rolex, I can totally see how this would be cake for you. :) I agree with your ideas about looser. I find I actually do that. Was even thinking earlier that maybe the issue came when I wore it swimming yesterday and -- yep -- fastened it one hole tighter on my sport band. Maybe after more than an hour, my wrist was just over it.

I've been trying looser today, playing with different watch bands. Happy to say things seem to be improving. Can still feel it, but I've been out and about in the world for about 5 hours, and so far, better than yesterday. Yay progress!

Could be. Think giving it some time to see if it improves will help me know more if it's the watch, if it's my wrist, if it's...something else? But good to consider options. :)

Jic it seems relevant, I'm a 5'4" female and I have about average-sized wrists for such a body, so I might just be at my limit for wearables there. So much learning going on. :)

You sure it’s the watch that’s making your wrist hurt…?
I'm not sure whether you're being funny or genuinely asking. :) So, honestly, I laughed, and then I thought...yes, I should be on the lookout for confounding variables. Good idea.

Are you wearing it tighter than with previous watches? I can feel a discomfort if I over-tighten my watch, most noticeably with straps like the Sport Loop where there aren't any fixed sizes.

Yesterday, I tightened it (an extra notch on a Sport Band that I don't normally do) before going into the water for over an hour, starting to think that might have exacerbated the issue. Might just be the combination of that and new heavier watch. It's doing better, but it helps to hear opinions on things to try. Definitely a little looser is nice, which I like in a watch, so this could be a good solution.

I've found it works flawlessly for me too. What are your three watches? How do you rotate them?
I have an S5 Silver SS, an S5 white Ceramic Edition, and an S6 Nike SG Aluminum. (My S7 Hermes SBSS is coming Tuesday, so soon to be 4 watches). I also have 40+ Apple bands, so I wear a different watch and band combo every day. All 3 watches get worn pretty much equally. With the variety of watch and band colors and materials, it feels like a whole new watch every day.

Love it! Bet that white ceramic is beautiful--think I'd just keep wearing that: I love white! I have a similar experience with the different bands -- then different watch faces -- make me feel like I own so many watches. Hope you keep enjoying your three and soon four watches. :)

The weight of the watch is definitely what's doing it. I went through this when switching to a mechanical Omega watch years ago. The difference in weight between that an my quartz watches were enough to make it hard to wear for more than 8-10 hrs without needing to take it off for a break. I did eventually adjust, but it was weird to experience. Some people are more sensitive to this than others. It took maybe 2-3 weeks to fully get used to it. Now it doesn't make any difference to me.

Your words just filled my heart with delight! Thank you. That's kinda what I'm thinking and hoping, too. Today is already better, not awesome, but going in a better direction. Thanks for sharing!

In light of this new information, you could have temporarily pinched a nerve when you over-tightened the band. If so, you should be fine in a few days. Same kind of thing can happen on the top of your foot, if you tighten your shoe laces too tight

Taking short breaks helps. I wouldn't just power through. Whatever nerves are running under the watch (ulner and median I believe) are basically under stress because they're not used to having that much weight on them.
