Right back where I started...
Another month has gone by and we learned that the favorite iLife suite program is iPhoto over iTunes and that mostly everyone here wears Ascis running shoes. We also had the 1Q winners in the 5K at 16' 08" was Twood and for the 10K at 33' 10" was - surprise, surprise...Twood. Congratulations on some great times.

The 25,000 mile challenge is proving to be one. 5,956.92 is where we are at at this moment...we are supposed to be at 6,284.15 so we are 327.23 off the pace...will we get there? Will we have some folks add on to help the cause? Will some folks drop off? Only time will tell.

If for some reason you fell out of the challenges for April - let me know.

April begins the 2Q 10K and 5K Challenges and we now have favorite superhero and favorite generation Nano challenges for the group.

Enjoy! Keep on running...I am trying to recruit Forrest Gump to get the 25,000 mile challenge back on track ;)

Run, Forrest Run!

Great job on the challenges this month Ziwi! Thanks for all the work you're putting in to these each month :D

Added you to the challenges - the new April ones only seem to have 16 takers so far...I am wondering if there was a problem with the invites...I send close to 70 per month, but sometimes the site comes back with sorry - failure. I used to keep resending like a mental patient and then people were asking why they kept getting so many invites...Nike site says fail, but people are in, but maybe it is not all people...hopefully this thread will shed light on this.

I have been gone from the challenge for seven weeks due to knee problems. Ziwi, could you invite me to extra challenges?

Send the invite to Macrumors username@mac.com

My screenname on Nike+ is spelteori

glad to see you're back :) i hope you stay healthy

yeah, hopefully those that didn't get the invite will let you know.

Ziwi, you're too modest. Congratulations to you on a great month of running (broke 200 miles and had the highest total of any individual for the month)!

Boy do I know what that's like. Frustrating, isn't it?? Glad to have you back.

For my part, I am running again, but my knees are still very problematic. Frankly, I'm really worried that I won't be able to finish my marathon in a few weeks. :(

The good news is that it seems that my new nike+ sensor is accurate! Ok, I don't actually know if it's really accurate, but it does register significantly different paces when I change my level of effort, so I would imagine it's at least *more* accurate than my old one. :)

It is a serious pain in the butt. The weather has been perfect for running (clear blue skies and low/mid 50s) and I have been forced to rest... for seven excruciating weeks.
As of now I stretch like there is no tomorrow and walk/jogg my old run in an almost bizarre slow pace. I just need to get the ligaments and joints used to running again without adding any stress to my knees. Another seven weeks like this would for sure make me take up drugs.

Don't make my mistake listen to your body. If you are in pain, you body is trying to tell you to stop whatever you are doing. In doubt, take the safe road. It is just not worth it to spend seven weeks with itchy legs. In any case, good luck with the marathon!

Ordinarily, I completely agree with you. But I've been training for this marathon for six months. I don't know when I'm going to have a chance to run another one. I feel like if there's any way that I'm physically capable of running this race, I'm going to do it.

(psst - anyone got any HGH? ;))

I actually did not realize that. Thanks.
I think I am trying to put more miles in since I can not explain gaining 10 lbs since the year began...very frustrating based on the calories I am burning. I am also afraid of my left Achillies - hard to move in the morning and it seems to only losen up with a run, but any period of non-flexibility tightens it up to where I almost walk with a limp - I know I have tendonitis in it for all the times I have rolled it and there is the calcifications and bone spurs and then the compensation leads to a sciatica pain and hamstring twinges ;) - It sucks to get old! - will be 40 at the end of August, but I just have to keep doing it - on my days off I feel guilty...:)

i'm sorry to hear that. hopefully you'll get better and stay healthy. at least you are stretching and doing all you can

i know where you are coming from, and i don't blame you for wanting to race. if you are able to race, then race. that's what i would do. you've done all this work. good luck to you

congrats ziwi!

well, as far as weight loss/gain, sometimes it takes more than just running. you need the sit-ups and all, as well as some weight training (not heavy weights or anything). of course, as you get older, the more work you'll have to do.

you've done great with getting your running pace down (faster). just be careful. you most certainly have achilies tendonitis, and it can get real bad. i've had it myself. just keep stretching, and listen to your body.

keep up the good work though

man, 3 x 500 today on the track. was tough.

if anyone was wondering why my mileage is a little bit worse than before, and why i don't have as many fast runs, it's b/c when i train on the track i don't use my ipod.

Count me in for these challenges (I'm a little annoyed I didn't see the 10K challenge from last quarter...but there's always the future).

I'll be taking the next few days off because my car is in the shop so I'm biking to school...Don't want to kill myself with a running workout and a deathrally biking home on a state highway. :D

I seriously doubt anyone will complain about your milage. ;)

maybe not, but i thought i'd let people know, just in case they were wondering what's going on

sounds good. we need ya

You will be back on later. We need your miles badly. April is a perfect month for running and we still not back on pace. I think we need to wake up people or we will fail the challenge.

yeah hopefully. my mileage won't be down that much. (still over 40 miles a week)

but i agree, we need everyone to step up if we're gonna make it

If we are this lazy now, imagine how easy it will be to keep pace in November or December.
You need approximately 10 miles on average per week in order to make the min personal challenge (500 miles). I think we could ask people to at least contribute one (1) mile per week. Even if you are crazy stressed and dont have time to go for a run, you can at last put on you sneakers and walk one miles per week....
or does that sound a bit too much North Korean? I dont think it is too much to ask someone to at least try to transport their body at least one mile per week if you have signed up for the challenge.
Today only 12 out of 61 people are on or above pace to make the minimum 500 mile challenge (10 miles per week). 18 out of 61 run less than one mile per week. :(

now there's an idea. i think everyone could easily get in 1 mile a week (if not 1 mile a day). we need to start repeating this or something

Ok, I give up...where do we find these Macrumors challenges for April?

ziwi has to invite you to the challenge. he needs either your nike id or your email address

You don't think it is a bit too dictatorial?
I don't think it is unreasonable to ask people to do one mile per week (or day), especially since they already have signed up to participate in a 25,000 mile challenge.
However, I am a bit worried how people would take a request like that. It could perhaps lead to some drop outs. I don't know.
