With speculation of a 128 gig 5S being an option, is there anyone out there that would spend $499 to have 128 gigs of storage on a phone? I know that everyone is thinking that they'll make 32 GB the standard, but my prediction is the 5S will still follow the 16/32/64 $199/$299/$399 pricing, but they'll also mention that "We're also excited to announce, for the first time, a 128 GB iPhone for $499." I'm currently using a 64 GB 4S, and I would love a 128 GB 5S (or whatever it ends up being called), but I don't think I could justify the price anymore, with apps like Spotify and iTunes Match being available. Anyone else have any thoughts?

I have a pretty huge library of music that I can definitely stuff into my phone and get into the 70-85GB range quite comfortably but at this point I'm like you..... I'm just not that sure I can justify the extra 100 dollars. I guess I'm really hoping they do a 32/64/128 and keep the price point the same. Maybe now that the competition is so stiff from everyone else they make one of the options to have high storage space a selling point since no one offers 128GB from the factory.

My main concern would also be that the phone slows down a bit. I'm not willingly to sacrifice speed over memory.

It will be a last minute decision but every time I've said that I usually go to the higher option.

I dont personallt think they will make the 32 GB standard. They didnt for the iPad when they introduced the 128 GB (wasn't while introducing a brand new product, I know, but still). This is Apple we'e talking about. All about the $$$

Hope I'm wrong though

I hope so too, but that was done very early this year. What you would need to watch out is what they would do for the iPad 5 revision- in this case will only happen until they release them later this year.

It's just that if they don't make 32GB standard then iPhone 5S 16GB will be very limited this time next year as competition stiffens up going into 2014. I would like to hope HTC has set the benchmarks for storage at 32GB standard and 64GB option.

Also Apples iPod touch have 32GB and 64GB options with an inferior more affordable 16GB option.
Does apple suddenly think that their premium iPhone 5S users still want to be in the 16GB category?

Just a thought.

Agreed. They'd leave way to much cash on the table by going standard at 32GB.

but on the other hand. in europe the iphone 5 64gb is 899 euro. that would mean the 5s 128gb would be a whopping 1000 euro? for a phone? not sure they would do that.

I know right. I tried to work out the prices for the release next week
For the U.S and UK Contract free. Europe are based on Germany

iPhone 5C 16GB $449 /£369 /
iPhone 5C 32GB $549 /£449 /

If 16GB is still standard for iPhone 5S.

iPhone 5S 16GB $649 /£529 / € 679
iPhone 5S 32GB $749 /£599 / € 789
iPhone 5S 64GB $849 /£699 / € 899
iPhone 5S 128GB $949 /£799 / €1009??

Not sure they would do a € 1009 Euro Phone. It would sound too wrong coming from Apple. It will glorify them as being expensive.

What's worse places like Italy already have a € 949 64GB iPhone! What next, a € 1059 128GB iPhone?!

EDIT

I'd rather them bump up the prices of the upgrade prices for the iPhone 5S in the UK and keep 32GB as standard like,

iPhone 5S 32GB $649 /£529 / € 679
iPhone 5S 64GB $749 /£629 / € 789
iPhone 5S 128GB $849 /£729 / € 899

Because most countries have the same increment except the UK which the difference between 16GB and 32GB is £70 and the difference between 32GB and 64GB is £100!!

I really hope they don't do any of this 429 or 449 crap. My opinion i think they missed a huge window of opportunity when they released the ipad mini at 329. I know its only 30 dollars but the looks of 299 vs 329 is huge to the avg buyer. I hope they keep it at 399 499. No need to do this in between junk.

Fixed the above sentence (see bold/underlined) in your original post ;)

Listen to yourself.

1. Go to Apple.com
2. Search for MacBook Air 11-inch 128GB base price.
3. Wait till next week.
4. Search the iPhone 5S 128GB base price.
5. Now laugh at yourself funny thinking the iPhone 5S 128GB would cost as much as the MacBook Air 11-inch 128GB. ;)

I guess they'll will lower the price: the 16 gb will cost the same as the 8 GB iphones back then, the 32 will costs the 16 gb of now, etc....That's one step further lowering the price of the iphone, just like they're about to do with the iPhone 5C.

I agree 299 is better than 329. But also 149 is better than 299. Of course the lower one would better.

But the prices depend on cost and what else they're already offering.
iPad mini couldn't go $299 if it came with retina and because they can't make them fast enough to give them away for $299 and $299 is the price of the iPod touch 32GB so they would need to be different prices.

iPad could go £299 this time but wouldn't be surprised if it came with retina and didn't get cheaper.

thats being extreme. I'm talking about the price point between 299 and 329. Does Apple really need to make max money by charging that extra 30 dollars? On paper to buyers 299 just LOOKS a lot better. No need to exaggerate with the 149 comparison.

I still have 8.8gb available on my 16gb 4S, I would never EVER need 128gb. I think 32gb is the highest I would go, but even then I usually just like buying the cheapest option. It amazes me how much stuff people need to have on their phone. To me, the less clutter the better.

BTW, Apple makes a killing on people that love the 32, 64gb options. It doesn't cost Apple any more money to make the phone a higher storage capacity, but they make 100-200$ more each phone. A $199 on contract iPhone is the most I will pay. :)

No I totally understand you, I admit I may have sounded overboard, my poor sarcasm skills. :)
Talk about maximising money, Apple randomly made iPhone 5 16GB SIM FREE here in the UK £529 from it's traditional £499 iPhone base price !

But the second point was more important about how the prices shouldn't be similar for near similar devices.

What do you think iPad Mini sells when the Mini 2 comes out? I think that will be something to watch for too which is not really talked about. 249 iPad mini will do damage even if its a year old....

My guess is $199 for 16 GB, then $299 for either 32 or 64 and $399 for 128. Plenty of people buy they 16 and don't seem to mind that capacity. But then there are those of us who wish a server farm was attached to our phone.

You make a good point, no has mentioned what happens to iPad mini after iPad mini 2. I think $249 would be okay I think Apple will go away from cascading things, selling off last years model for a discount.

Margins get hurt. Solution is to do what they did to iPad 3rd generation for every iOS release from here on. So maybe refurbished iPad mini at $249 for a while yes, but not mainstream retail.

Because they're starting to recycle components more- that's what school taught uncle Cook ;)

The fact that Apple is all about the $$$ would be the reason they would do this. They have to remain competitive to keep competitive.

It's a good guess but I don't know where all this 'Plenty of people buy they 16 and don't seem to mind that capacity'

Apple should be setting the benchmarks, we're so laxed that Apple is sinking to let them carry on with this idea.
If they don't know much about phones, storage and premium price they need to go for iPhone 5C. So to stay competitive the iPhone 5S needs to beef up.

I know we're only hoping for 32GB to be standard but this too also differentiates iPhone flagship and iPhone mid spec. Just like how the iPod touch has a cheaper 16GB version compared to the 32GB/64GB
