Historically, this hasn't been the case with Apple. They usually keep the prices the same and add features or storage to the newer models. I don't think there will be any price increase for the 4G iPod Touch.

iPod touch 4G...worth the wait?

Heck I bet it'll kick the socks off my 1G 8gb touch... it's still going strong, but no way would I try to run anything newer on it, it is sluggish with ios3
Ouch that stinks...is iOS3 really that bad though?
Since I'm in the market for a new ipod I'm definitely going to wait a couple months. It should be worth it. Having switched back to a Macbook and sold off my 32GB Zune, I need a solid iPod. Been using my GF's old 5G and shuffle.. but the 5G has been a bit glitchy.
I think im going to buy no matter what.... You sold your Zune HD?
I really need an MP3, my Zune 30GB broke about 5 months ago...
yeah I needed some cash and knowing I was going to go Mac again I really had no use for it aside from external HD viewing..
Its DEFINITELY worth the wait, the last thing I want to be stuck with is an old device a month before a new one comes out especially if I am going to shell out big bucks for it. Sucks that technology is obsolete before you even buy it but that is the way it goes. The iPod touch that is on the shelf now is practically obsolete. It seems there is a cycle of 1 year of major upgrades, 1 year of minor upgrades for apple products. The touch 2nd gen was the big upgrade, last year was the minor upgrade, this year will be the big upgrade and next year will be minor. I would wait especially since buying one one of the current ones might mean getting locked out of apps in the very near future.
If you have the money then get both the 3g and the 4g when it comes out, i am in the same situation as you and that's what I'm doing.
Its not a bad solution if you need the touch right now, you could just sell it when 4G comes out or at Xmas time and get most of your money back, but frankly I can wait as I have lived this long without a touch might as well just wait for the latest and best.
I have been waiting since Father's Day to purchase an iPod Touch. It just makes sense to wait, if you can. I know I would be kicking myself if I purchased a 3G Touch and the 4G has a lot of the features that we have been speculating. As someone mentioned on another thread, if you don't like the features of the 4G, you could probably pick up a 3G for a very low price.
Yup, if you don't think the 4G will be worth it (which I seriously doubt) then you most likely will be able to buy a 3G at a lower price than it is now. You might even find a store that has dropped the price on the 3G or is trying to clear out remaining stock, I know for a fact Kmart and Sears do clearance on iPods. Overall it just makes sense to wait. I have been waiting since last August for an iPod touch with a camera.
