i have a 4s that has been through hell and back and has been beyond shattered (large chunks of glass missing) the screen/lcd/digitizer whatever has finally crapped out and will blip on for a fraction of a second when you press the home button of course not long enough to enter the passcode.

the phone is trashed but i would like to get all the pictures and personal videos off of it before it finally craps out for good, only problem is without a working screen there seems to be no way to enter the passcode (which is preventing me from downloading pics/vids)

any suggestions?

Can you not plug it into a Windows machine and just get the photos and videos? It shows up as if it were a camera.

You could also use iFunBox which let's you download them. http://www.i-funbox.com/

The only option I see here, (I just thought of it) is that you SSH in your iPhone and recover all these things. However, you'd have to have it already jailbroken and SSH tunneling enabled. To very big 'ifs'

iFunBox says it works on non-jailbroken devices. I can't verify because my iPhone is jailbroken.

The only way you can get anything off of the iPhone is if you have a computer that it has been plugged into before when it was unlocked. If you do, it will show up in iTunes and My Computer or iPhoto to enable you to download its pictures. If you don't or it asks for the passcode to be entered first, there is no way at all to get your photos back. Even Apple can't get them.

thanks for all the quick replies.

apple had no suggestions.
itunes recognizes the phone but will not connect to it. it displays a message that says you must enter the passcode on the phone before itunes can connect.

im on windows xp and was hoping that windows would connect and recognize it as a camera (which it does with my other iphone 4 that does not have a passcode set) but it does not bc of the passcode

will ifunbox allow me access to photos/videos with the passcode enabled?

Have you tried iFunBox? I verified that it connects and let's me download photos even with the passcode lock but I am jailbroken. Their website says it also works on non-jailbroken devices.

Edit: It's free so you have nothing to lose. Give it a try.

iFunBox won't be able to access anything on it because of the passcode. The passcode locks out all functions on the iPhone besides telling iTunes that there is a passcode locked iPhone connected to it.

unfortunately ifun did not work.

id hate to spend the money but i think i may just have to take it to a repair shop and fix the bare minimum parts to get the screen working again...

ive heard that it may be possible to remove the "hard drive" and use it similiar to a flash drive..... is this possible or just a crazy rumor??

Crazy.
There is no hard drive and the storage chip in the logic board cannot be used as a flash drive.

Not possible as there is no hard drive. Moreover, the chip that holds your information is a NAND Flash module. A chip which is soldered to the iPhone mainboard. Trying to take it out is beyond reckless and will guarantee your data loss.

Your only option here is to repair the screen. There is no other way to get onto that phone with out it being JB and SSH open.

By the way, how is the phone so damaged? What did you do it the poor thing, lol ?

its just been really abused. dropped in water, peed on shattered etc. its my friends old phone and she was kind of a careless partier during the time she had the phone. when the screen died she gave it to me and asked that i retrieve all pics and vids for her.

good news is the screen randomly started working for a few hours and i was able to go in and turn off the passcode. it just now stopped working but im still able to access all the pics/vids and im currently downloading them now. looks like i got lucky!

thanks again everyone for all the help

I am in the same boat...

I have the same issue. Touch screen is shot. I have tried to repair it but even when replaced, the touch pad is not working. has there been any updates since this last post on ways to bypass the pass code to allow an iTunes sync?

Is the phone pass code on the sim card? Can I put the sim card in a functioning phone and remove the pass code or something?

Can I put the hard drive into a working 4s?

No. You cannot bypass the passcode.
The sim has nothing to do with it. The only thing stored in the sim is your phone number.
Basically still nothing you can do besides fix the screen.

Use iPhoto

My sister-in-law's phone had the same dead touch screen and passcode lock and I was not able to back it up via iTunes, but had no trouble backing up the images using iPhoto (which is the standard Mac app to downlink images). If you are a Windoze user, just find an enlightened friend and ask them to back up your images (or perhaps do it yourself on their machine so they don't see your embarrassing half-naked selfies.)

If the device is passcode locked and has never be unlocked while connected to that computer, the images will not be available.
