Never wanted to Jailbreak, my phone has got to be as reliable as possible and I've heard horror stories from some who have jailbroken and had buggy iphones that were never the same after the jailbreak. Maybe it's better now, heck if I can't use the phone the way I want to without Jailbreaking to toggle 2G what's the difference if I do Jailbreak?

Not pushing jailbreak on you here, but this is nonsense. If your phone turns out so terrible after jailbreak that you cannot live with it, a full restore will overwrite any remnants of the jailbreak and you will have everything working as Apple intended. It will be as if you never jailbroke in the first place. 99% of issues people have with jailbreak is users installing every tweak under the sun, having issues, and then saying "jailbreak did it".

If you don't want to jailbreak, that is certainly your prerogative. Don't do it. But if your sole reason was these horror stories, then do reconsider. Do research on the packages you install, especially if they make core changes to iOS, and you will be just fine.

err

just jailbreak (well, you would need to stay on 5.0.1 :) )

just picked up a new replacement 4S from a store today. jb'ed 1h later:

edge / 3g or off via intelliScreen or SBsettings

I'm on AT&T, 5.1 and I have an "Enable 3G" switch under Settings>Network>Enable 3G. Did I get luck out randomly or something?

Edit: My apologies I'm using an iPhone 4 just realized the OP must've been talking about the 4S and If that's the case I'm so glad I never updated lol.

You can complain to work.

At one of the previous places I worked it's a huge concrete building and all kinds of phones have 1 bar. The company got cell company to install repeaters.

Yeah, I hope people are able to find workarounds because it really does suck. Personally, 3G is fine both at work and home, but I hate it when I go to a sporting event as sports stadiums will sap my phone dead in about eight hours, depending on the exact location. A day of football and tailgating will kill the phone before the end of the game, while on Edge, I'm not looking for data transmission, just the ability to send and receive texts.

I thought the removal of the "Enable 3G" button started with the intro of the 4S, since I'm on 5.1, iPhone 4, and I still have my enable 3G button.

It's funny. They can add "4G" to the 4S but not a 3G toggle switch.. wtf.

Maybe they realized at the last possible moment that they have not changed the toggle switch label from "Enable 3G" to "Enable 4G" & so they "erroneously" decided to drop the idea of re-enabling that toggle switch. :D

I'm just talking nonsense, of course. :D
