Many of us don't want OLED because of burn-in, PWM, etc.

Personally I also prefer the rendering of LCD, the colors look nicer and more natural. I don't use my Mac in pitch black darkness either like I do my phone, so the perfect blacks don't matter at all to me, I’d rather just have 120Hz on LCD

Edit: Also a lot of people do color-accurate work on their Macs that requires a display that's well-calibrated. Calibrated OLEDs are probably quite expensive, as we saw with the price bump for the M4 iPad Pro, and due to the nature of OLED they will probably need to be recalibrated more often to maintain accuracy.

I wouldn't mind an OLED option, but I hope it’s not the only option

You should if you want to care for your eyes. See you in a few years when OLED suddenly is connected to eye issues in users.

OLED introduces PWM, unusual pentile pixel arrangement, burn-in, all in the name of "true blacks", when the concept itself is a marketing lie.
Nothing is true black in this worlds, except darkness itself, where you cant see a thing to begin with. Might as well close your eyes for that.

People like vivid colors, but you could do those just fine on an LCD screen. LG and HTC had no issues calibrating their LCD screens to be colorful and vivid, while maintaining some accuracy.

Apple is moving to OLED because is now the defacto cheap screen. Even cheap Androids are now coming with OLED with high refresh rates. They are not moving because its "better".

Sure, but that was after half a decade of Samsung producing those panels. And Apple got around into implementing "Always On" display until later, like a decade behind Nokia, Samsung and other makers did. Tells you enough about their priorities.

I guess. I personally could not care less. I think it’s a lot more noticible on an iPhone, and I don’t ever find myself bothered by the refresh rate of my Air or my iMac.

I actually switched to Apple to move away from Android OLED screens. Had a galaxy S3 (Super AMOLED) in 2012, but really liked the LCD IPS TFT screens on the iPhones at the time (iPhones 5S), switched to HTC One which had the same display as iPhones, and then got the iPhones 6S+ which was my first iPhone.

I'm glad you don't notice much of a difference. But for some users, myself included, the difference is night and day.

And it’s noticeable even in basic daily tasks, since they are full of animations and scrolling.

It depends on how many dimming zones the MiniLED monitor has. I love the display on my MacBook Pro. I have a cheap AOC MiniLED monitor for my Studio that’s good enough. I can’t justify going higher than 1440p for my Studio. I just don’t need it. 🤷‍♂️

I somehow doubt that the Mini will be OLED.. I can see a Mini Pro, but not a regular Mini. As @Agit21 said "Apple is so cheap" I agree with that, hence the reason why the Mini will not be OLED IMO.
 
for me readability in bright sunlight is the most important thing (more than true black).

i am not shure if oled is better in this discipline. i doubt. iphone 15 and 17 dimm quicker than iphone 11 (all pro).
with that said i am not sure if an iPad Mini OLED is a step forward (for me). should i upgrade? any suggestions?

I'm confused about the OLED rumors. Will the base M6 MacBook Pro have OLED, or is this only coming for the high-end models? The MR buyers guide says high-end.
 
I'm more excited about the iPad Air getting OLED, because its screen is so sluggish and dated. The MacBook Pro already has a pretty great screen, and compared to Tandem OLED, the difference is like 5-10% for HDR content. I'd only notice if I were deliberately looking for it in an ambient lit room. If I was using my MBP in the dark, I could see more of a need for OLED.

Also the thing no one seems to mention is that whites are always lacking on OLED compared to mini-LED.

I have a HP Zbook Ultra G1a with their high end OLED screen for work [14"]. It is very glossy, but the sharpness and clarity is amazing compared to my current MBP. With an etched matte screen, I imagine the MBP will be beautiful to work on.

When I first got the Zbook I thought the screen was actually 'too good' for what I needed it for. When this comes out on the MBP it is going to be startling the difference between the MacBook air and the pro [they need to upgrade the air screen in 2027 to the current pro screen].
 
Amazes me that iMac is not OLED already and it will not be until 2028 or 2029 when OLED on big screen TVs or Computer monitors existed for sometime now. It is rather laughable that Apple rather work on smaller screen for OLED.

Wohooo...this time Apple is only about 8-10 years behind everyone else.

Using screens with outdated technology on their devices for years, saving themselves a lot of money but still in the meantime increasing their prices.
Those old screens most stopped using in 2015 probably don't cost much any more.

And still people keep buying.

Sounds about right, I actually had to return mine for that reason. Got an M4 Air and I'm very happy with it, performance is functionally identical and it's probably the last iPad Apple will make with a high quality LCD for the foreseeable future, unfortunately.

I hope all the people pining for OLED are willing to pay the freight for it. It's not a throw-in for Apple.

I still occasionally use a 2017 iPad Pro. It has ProMotion! It doesn't feel like it has ProMotion because sadly, the A10X processor is holding it back. The screen is still great. It had a good run going on 10 years and will work just fine as a hand-down to some kids who aren't aware of the differences between LCD and OLED.
 
Let's hope they finally get rid of the notch and don't bother with a hole punch/pill. If Dell and others can put a better 1080p webcam in a bezel like what's around the top of the MacBook's, Apple can...

Not everything new is definitively better. For many use cases, like computers being used in a well lit room, what exactly is the benefit of OLED? Is it worth the color cast that we'll likely get on cheaper models? The pentile subpixel arrangement? Potential for burn-in?

Personally I think IPS LCD just looks better, unless you want things to have more contrast and saturation than real-life, but Macs are intended to be usable for professionals, who want accurate colors and don't care how good netflix looks on their laptop.

It’s a laptop not a TV, entertainment is not it’s primary purpose

LCD is good enough for me that I don’t want to pay the premium for OLED.

I always use my devices in well lit environments so I never encounter situations where the perfect black of OLED is visible to me.
 
Could not be more excited for the OLED iPad Mini. For a man with huge hands, you can’t beat the size for texting.
 
Given that Samsung makes the displays. How are OLED displays on Apple devices able to properly display the color white, but on Samsung devices it always looks greenish/yellowish?
