It's standing on something smaller so I can always reach it. But the mini is definately much too light. It already fell down twice from my "desk". Thankfully I have a thick carpet or some cables stopped it from touching the ground.

Yeah it being so light the bigger issue now is with the two ports on the front. You have to hold the Mac mini down in order to plug anything in.

Can't plug anything in without holding it down and also can't turn it on without lifting it up.

A+ level trolling from Apple.
Had a friend text me today that he is buying something to place underneath the Mac mini so that it won't slide when plugging in his USB drives.

remarkable trolling by apple.

Have the M4 mini for 3 months now and it is my first mini. Not at all an issue for me to turn it on daily.

Mine very rarely gets turned off, but I 3D printed a stand for it for the odd time I do need to turn it on.

I elevated mine with an improvised pedestal

but I 3D printed a stand

I've added rubber boots to mine at each corner.

This is just the last page of this thread, I have to say, if people are needing to find work arounds just to use a power button then, that design is rather poor.

People say it doesn't bother them, but then they qualify it, by stating with using something to eleveate the computer to make accessing the power button easier.

I get that we rarely need to power down our macs, I keep mine on all of the time, but that sort of justification doesn't help, because poor design is poor design.

I think they should have designed the Mini so that the entire case was a button, like how the Magic mouse works. Only problem is if you put something heavy on top of it.

Double tap could turn it on... and triple tap - off.

PS: I've just thought, actually it can now firmly stand on its side without any additional support.

I'm reaching for the power button at least once or twice per day.
Sometimes more, if I boot from my external Tahoe "experimental" drive.

The Mini has been oriented like this since the day I took it out of the box:

Botton w power button.JPG

It will most likely STAY that way until the time comes to take it off the table for retirement...

Yeah if you reach for it that often, this seems like a sensible solution. I hit mine like once a month. :D

It's really annoying because I regularly need to do something in the startup settings and also just turn it off once in a while.

At the moment it's lying upside down on the metal plate of my display.

I did this to test if it's running cooler because the hottest spot is always on top and it's really working, also the fans have more room for fresh air now.

It might collect more dust inside that way but I can always reach the power button now very easily.

is it the best idea? no. does it actually matter though? no.

I've had one since launch. i completely forgot about it.
Clicking on a recent reaction to my post brought me back here - and 10 months later, I for one go "this is just effin monumentally dumb" every time I turn one of my Minis on.

Definitely a poor design IMO. However, my m4 Mini is a media server inside a closed cabinet. After setting it up a year ago, I may have pressed the button twice, so it really hasn't "impacted my life".

a cat ?

ahh wait, that´s why they made the mini so small ?
The M5mini might be like what you say

seriously, i run a M4studio since several months.
my main PC is allways behind my Keyboard (piano keys)
Bevore i was running a M4mini.

Turns out: i have way more problems to switch my M4studio on.
I can´t see the switch, i have to feel it, but i don´t.
It was in fact easier to just lift the mini a little. You get used to it.
( depends ofc. on placing, spacing etc. )

So, i "could" claim now: "they even dodged up the studio too"

My Mini (m4) is attached to an Apple Display 27" with several SSDs attached for back-up purposes. When I try to sleep the system, the display just flashes off and immediately comes back to life. This happens frequently so now my mini is on a shelf up-side down where a one touch press of the power button puts the system to sleep.
Been like that since I bought it in April 25.

The Studio certainly isn’t the poster child for how to implement a simple power button. Arguably it’s worse because, while the Mini clearly simplified things and saved the cost of making a hole in the shiny case, the Studio still has an “expensive” shiny button and they’ve gone to all the effort of fitting it flush into the curved corner of the case… without once stopping to ask “why?” or “how does this improve the user experience?”.

Just put the flippin’ power button on the front (maybe integrated into the power light)…. If you don’t need it, just ignore it.

Not for nothing, I also struggle to find the button on my studio. I run my finger around the back of it, but I largely fail to find it. I eventually do, but its not easily found but its better then needing to lift the mini up and access the button
