2018 Mini

View attachment 2578764

The m4 might be a good size for a kitten? But mine is inside a cabinet. I moved the 2018 under the monitor and have retired the 2012 Mini. But there are plenty of other places for the cat(s) to sleep. 😸
You have to go Intel if you want a good heated cat platform.

I used to leave my old black polycarbonite MacBook open all night so it could wake up in the morning and record a radio program stream for me. My cats really appreciated the free heater in the winter. One morning I woke up to find they had somehow added this playlist to iTunes:

seriously, i run a M4studio since several months.
my main PC is allways behind my Keyboard (piano keys)
Bevore i was running a M4mini.

Turns out: i have way more problems to switch my M4studio on.
I can´t see the switch, i have to feel it, but i don´t.
It was in fact easier to just lift the mini a little. You get used to it.
( depends ofc. on placing, spacing etc. )

So, i "could" claim now: "they even dodged up the studio too"
;)
This is also true but at least you're not having to dislodge the mac every time, but simply a reacharound.
Either way yes, stupid power button placements in both cases but I still think the Mini takes the dumbness cake

I turn my mini off every night. And it really is awkward to have to lift it up and feel around for the "switch" which feels too weak even on a good day. Sometimes I am not sure if I accidentally pressed it whilst lifting it up to find the button to turn on the computer. So, in closing, it really does suck hard. Stupid all the way down the line. (I absolutely ADORE the rest of the computer)

Not for nothing, I also struggle to find the button on my studio. I run my finger around the back of it, but I largely fail to find it. I eventually do, but its not easily found but its better then needing to lift the mini up and access the button

Eh… I was agreeing with you regarding the studio though invariably I have to visually look for the button.. hard disagree on the mini, no effort one handed to reach under it and find the power button. Shrugs

Mine is awkward because I don't keep it switched on as all the hard drives are lit up and flashing away. So I turn mine off when not in use as it's not just the mini using power. The button placement is bloody annoying. Im forever having to move it out from under the monitor (where Apple also likes to promote it) press the button then put it back and slightly rejig the cables so they drop back down behind the desk edge. Then realign the mini as the weight of the cables tugs at the mini. So its at minimum once a day but some times multiple.

I had a touch sensitive button on my old PowerMac G4 if I remember correctly. Why can't they add that to the apple logo or something. Just rest your finger on it and it fires up. They could put the actual electrical gubbins anywhere inside then as there would be no need for extra room to house a mechanical button.

I used to have my Mac in my bedroom and this always drove me crazy. I preferred (and still do) to just let it sleep, so I had to resort to all kinds of things to "blind" the insane flashlight-level LEDs that device manufacturers seem to think we need just to confirm something is powered on.

Electrical tape is the the easiest, but encountered LEDs that were bright enough I had to use two layers. There's a product called "Light Dims" that works pretty well and is less ugly than tape. And then there was the most satisfying mod of all: I had a couple of drive enclosures where I was able to open them up and physically crush the little LED module to death with a pair of needlenose pliers. Felt amazing.

Same, I was confirming that the studio while better doesn't have a great button design

Well we are both expressing opinions here, not facts... I would say the studio is worse .. but at the end of the day they both do the job I cant be bothered to get as upset about it as some here.
