We're just a couple months away from the launch of new iPhone models, and rumors are starting to really pick up. This year, we're expecting an all-new iPhone 17 Air, which will be the first notable redesign to the iPhone's form factor since the iPhone 12 launched.

  • It's super thin. As we saw in a video of a dummy model shared by Majin Bu, the iPhone 17 Air looks sleek and modern. It's thinner than any iPhone that has come before it, and we're expecting it to be super light in the hand due to the thin design.
  • No frills. Since it's thin, Apple had to cut space. There's a 48-megapixel single-lens rear camera instead of multiple cameras to swap between, so if you like a straightforward setup, this is the iPhone for you. No fussing with Telephoto lenses or Ultra Wide lenses, but you do get Apple's best and most versatile lens. Plus a front-facing selfie camera, of course.
  • Price. Apple's fresh new design isn't going to be the most expensive iPhone. It's going to be priced similarly to the iPhone 16 Plus that it's replacing, and it won't be as expensive as the iPhone 17 Pro models.
  • The A19 Pro chip. The latest rumors say it's going to get the same A19 Pro chip that Apple plans to use for the Pro models, but with one fewer GPU core. It should also have 12GB RAM, so it's going to be a super-capable thin device.
  • The colors. The iPhone 17 Air could come in a very light blue shade that's almost silver, possibly like the M4 MacBook Air. It's also expected to be available in black, silver, and light gold, and if the black shade is similar to the dummy model in the video, it should look quite nice.

Ok so I can buy the iPhone 17 Air but I need to skip the 17 pro : https://www.macrumors.com/2025/07/10/5-reasons-to-skip-this-years-iphone-17-pro/

Not sure about that MacRUMORS…

I can't believe Apple tolerates leaks in 2025. We all know what Steve would do....
I believe they not only tolerate them but generate them to heat up interest for the new model or vice versa - to sell more of the older ones. As we can see, leaks generate lots of responses, from “it is fugly” to “wow it is amazing, very innovative”, and different people would lean towards what they think is best for them - upgrade now (“classic” design”) or later (more new features)

It is the spiritual successor to the iPhone 12/13 mini. For people who don’t spend their every waking moment on their phones, and so find carrying a large heavy brick everywhere onerous.

The minis sacrificed screen size which most users didn’t like, so Apple is going thin while maintaining screen size.

If battery life is a pressing concern, you may want to reconsider the health of your phone habits.

It could also be simply a sign of the future. The first MacBook Air was a relatively compromised laptop. Today, svelte Air-like laptops are the norm.

Cannot say to get the Air due to the reasons mentioned. It will not be the most expensive model but make no mistake, it will be costly. As for battery, think it will be a downgrade. Hopefully the cameras are good. Colours too will be disappointing I think.

One reason to consider it will be if it is super light weight.

"If you use your phone as intended (or for work or any of those things) you might want to reconsider the health of your phone habits" is such a wild take to excuse poor battery life.

Looking forward to *credible* reviews and evaluating one in my local Apple Store. I suspect the battery life will be just fine making it through the day considering it will use Apple's lower power consumption C2 modem chip and fewer GPU cores in the A series CPU.

It will be nice finally having an iPhone that I can quickly take out of (and put back in) the pocket of the shirts I like to wear when I'm out and about in San Francisco making photos.

I am glad they are brining in the following as well

Bigger Battery with Faster wire and wireless charging speed (what our competitor is offering)
Headphone Jack Port
USB C (already there thanks to EU)

Reduced Cost (Apple is working on it)

Awesome

Reality is Apple now operates on such a scale it's impossible to avoid them, especially with iPhones where you've also got case manufacturers as well who receive details ahead of launch to produce them.

I think the last piece of hardware than genuinely was a surprise was the can't innovate anymore my ass Mac Pro. Even with the Apple Watch there was a leak of the chassis a couple of hours before the announcement.

Software wise it was Dynamic Island which no one saw coming, however it's clearly easier to keep software under wraps.
