So, five things to know, and three of them are the same as the regular iPhone 14…

Yeah this is like one of those assignments to write 1000 words on something that can be summed up in a sentence.

Bigger display, otherwise same as 14. Done.

There's no reason why they can't roll out the dynamic island for iPhones with a notch, especially the smaller notch.

it should be called iPhone 13S and 13S Plus

If we were on the naming convention (which hasn't been done in four years), then yes, this would make sense given how few updates there were to the base models. But, if we had 13S and 13S Plus, the Pro models would have to be 13S Pro and 13S Pro Max. Do we really want to be saying 13S Pro Max (5 syllables) for the top of the line model? Double digit numbers followed by an 'S' with extra words after them just looks ugly for branding too imo.

“featuring a larger display, improved cameras, performance, and more”

Er no.

I impatiently waited for the 14 plus to get a larger phone that is significantly more lightweight compared to the pro models. But not having 120Hz and no dynamic island and a not as bright screen and just two cameras. The pro max seems so much more attractive and I really like the pro colors this year 🤔🤔🤔🤔

Also it's huge and heavy, although not quite as heavy as our heaviest product.

The 14 plus, is essentially the 2022 version of the iPhone 8 Plus, arguably the best selling iPhone ever.. many people want this overall SIZE and WEIGHT, but with upgraded usable screen SIZE, processor, capabilities, upgrade ability, etc.. I’m surprised that it MIGHT not sell better than it would appear, but it’s going to be frankly the phone that many ppl. Have wanted for a while who don’t care about camera wars, 120 hz, LATEST processor, etc.

TWT, but its a full screen up to date version of the 8 plus in essentially every dimension including weight.

Maybe they should have called this the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus and the models with Dynamic Island, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

It's really annoying that Apple crossed the 200g weight for this. If it was kept under 200g, I might be tempted as the battery life is probably super. Once it goes over 200g, might as well get the Pro.

Samsung kept the S22+ under 200g, mind you, and it has larger battery too (4500mAh).
While it’s lighter than both Pro phone, my expectation is it will feel lighter than the pro due to the weight distribution of the increased size.

Buy the 13 Pro Max and get the same phone + nicer casing, ProMotion, Telephoto lens, among other benefits. This one is pointless.
i would agree.

those who are buying this you are getting a worse phone than 13 pro max.

”Worse” depends on what works for you. Some will prefer the significantly lighter(203 grams vs almost 241 grams) form factor. A bigger screen without the bigger heft. Also having updated connectivity is a good thing, Bluetooth 5.3 and a newer qualcomm modem X65

Sorry, all S generation had far more improvement compare to 14 and 14plus
You don’t consider redesigned internals with cheaper repairability a significant improvement? For example to repair the back glass of the iPhone 13 without AppleCare is $449. The iPhone 14 is $169. It’s like having permanent cost-free applecare lite for any potential mishaps down the road. Almost $300 repair savings makes this phone attractive.

For me, crash detection is a big advantage with any 14. YMMV
What did you do prior to crash detection? It’s a nice to have but not worth an upgrade just for it. Most cars have emergency dispatch included. Most people don’t plan on getting into an issue such as a crash.

As mentioned nice to have but not worth an upgrade on it as a sole purpose.

No. Because 13 has 4GB ram. Crippled
The last iPhone that actually struggled in real world performance (not some hypothetical or synthetic scenario that never happens) because of a lack of RAM was… the iPhone 6 Plus with its 1 GB RAM? I can’t think of a later one.

In my opinion, having had a play with the S22 Ultra and my 14 Pro side by side, the Samsung's material and build quality just doesn't seem to be on par with the iPhones.
I'm not talking about build quality. I'm simply referring to the weight. At least for me personally, anything over 200g feels unwieldy in hand. Apple does a better job in designing the balance, but still, I really prefer something less. I thought the 14 Plus would not exceed 200g as it's aluminum and the battery is less than the typical found on Android its size.

Maybe a 15 Plus with a redesign and more efficient chip can let Apple shave some weight.
