5 Things to Know About the iPhone 14 Plus

Every year, iPhones get bigger and heavier. 13 Mini for me.
Get the normal 13 or 14.
I use the mini for 1 year and I found this size weird.
It’s not that much smaller than the regular and you get less screen.
If you like small phones get se 2022. Before the mini I had 8 for 4 years and it’s a bit bigger but feels much smaller and more comfort

I’ve just checked this and it’s certainly not true for the UK, which is a significant market. Why are you spreading false information?
How is that false information? The UK is not "most countries." Singapore ship dates are slipping to the 12th, Hong Kong is slipping to the 14th, and Japan is slipping to 5-7 days for shipping. These are first tier Apple markets, mind you.

The 14 Plus isn't out yet but people, at least in MR, is talking smack about it.
It may not be the iPhone that MR enthusiasts and tech heads want but MR people are not indicative of the general public of iPhone buyers/owners.
Some people just want a bigger sized iPhone without any of the latest tech. Basically, it's similar in size to the old 6S/7/8 Plus size models but with more screen without the bezels. It would be nice to have the ProMotion display but most people won't care or notice the difference.
The bigger screen will help those with aging eyes at a relatively affordable price (point).
If a person wants to buy one, then so be it, without disparaging remarks from anyone.
To each their own.

What did you do prior to crash detection?

Luckly I have either been able to call or had a bystander who witnessed teh accident call. The nice thing about it being built in is if the phone gets tossed during the accident it can still call even if you can’t find it.

It’s a nice to have but not worth an upgrade just for it. Most cars have emergency dispatch included. Most people don’t plan on getting into an issue such as a crash.

Many cars only have crash and dispatch if you subscribe to it. The iPhone 14 gives you that no matter what you drive as long as you have your phone.

As mentioned nice to have but not worth an upgrade on it as a sole purpose.

For you. For me it is. Each person decides what makes it a worthwhile or non-worthwhile upgrade. As I said, YMMV.

Are all the 14 models now eSIM or just the Pros? If so, and if you're on a low-cost carrier, think twice about getting one. I've had my 14Pro for three days and still can't get my number ported to a new eSIM compatible carrier.

Yeah, yeah, I could pay a bunch more money and walk into one of the big cell company stores and get it done, but I was perfectly happy w/ my old $25/mo plan and would like to keep within the that budget range. Apple's decision to rush to eSIM-only has cost me nothing but time, headaches, and no service. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

The original post said the 18th, the 12th is nearly a week before that so thanks for proving my point

And I’m pretty sure the UK is a bigger market than those which you have mentioned too

All iPhone 14 models sold in the US support eSim only.

"If you purchased an iPhone 14 model in the United States, your iPhone activates with an eSIM."

"iPhone 14 models purchased in the United States don't have a physical SIM tray and support only eSIM."

If someone doesn't really use the camera, wants the best battery, and values the weight, it definitely has a place. The weight difference is pretty significant compared to a max.
or you could have a 14 pro and a plus for around the house :)

Apples mistake with the Mini, is that it doesn't have the pro features or materials, also the 12's battery was abysmal, if it had the Pro's cameras and materials, I would definitely have bought it, instead of the 13 pro, which is too big for my liking, great phone though, as for the 14 Plus, the differences with the Pro Max are huge, the $200 difference is not, which is why most that want a larger phone will buy the Max
Your asking for a Dodge RAM 3500 truck in a Smart for 2 size. It’s never going to happen. Sorry…

I wonder when the media blackout ends. For the other phones it was the Wednesday before they went on sale in stores. I'm still on a 12 mini. Was tempted to keep that but get this for travel. I have zero interest in lugging around the pro devices.

I wonder if this will suffer the same fate as the Mini?
It will be sad if that happens because having a lighter weight big form factor is nice since we haven’t had a lightweight big phone since iPhone 8 plus. And that only had a 5.5 inch viewable screen. Let’s cross our fingers and hope it does well.

Edit: On another note if they started pricing at $799 they would’ve hit it out of the park. Even at a starting 128gb. But $899 w/128gb? Oof. And the regular 14 could have been $699. $599 for the 13 and $499 for the 13 mini. The 12 shouldn’t even be in the line up. Oh well

The point was shipping dates are slipping, and you only take UK as an example and accuse people telling false information. I pointed out that in other primary first tier markets, the dates are indeed slipping.

it should be called iPhone 13S and 13S Plus
No, technically it's not even worthy of the S badge. S badge signifies significant improvements in the SoC. Take 4 and 4s (single vs dual core), 5 and 5s (32 vs 64 bit), 6 and 6s (huge performance boost). The 14 is literally just 13 REV B.

To put it more correctly, the 13 was really iphone 12s, and thus the iphone 14 is basically iphone 12s rev B.

You would be incorrect. At minimum it’s an S upgrade. I could possibly argue it’s a full 14. Did you watch the IFIXIT tear down on the iPhone 14? It’s on YouTube. The internals of the phone have been redesigned. It’s not the same as any of the 13s. The phone is now easier and cheaper to repair. You break the back glass on the 14 and now it’s $169 to replace it. The back glass on the 13 is $449 to replace. Both scenarios don’t have AppleCare. That’s huge. Next, the 14 now has 2gb of ram more than the 13, has updated bluetooth 5.3, updated Qualcomm modems(X65) all of which contribute to better connectivity and performance. The cameras have been updated as well as video features like action mode and 4k cinematic mode. Other features include satellite communication and crash detection.

To say that the 14 is the same as the 13 is malpractice

The last iPhone that actually struggled in real world performance (not some hypothetical or synthetic scenario that never happens) because of a lack of RAM was… the iPhone 6 Plus with its 1 GB RAM? I can’t think of a later one.
11pro 12 13 all suffer from unacceptable refreshes

Playing with one at Emart in Seoul yesterday, I realized that the 14 Plus is a great phone for grandma, as I have seen it mentioned. Huge but much lighter than the Pro phones. Felt lighter than my 11Pro, even — due to balance.

Negative which turned me off was the 60hz framerate was so noticeable at that larger size. I don’t mind 60hz on a standard 14 so much. But on the plus, the difference is accentuate.
