All you Apple loyalist. iPad doesn't do multitasking . However you do yours, it fails at it. If I want to juggle oranges while playing the piano, I would like to have that choice. Good god.

Sounds like you would be better served in getting an Android tablet. Nothing wrong in that. Get what works best for you and let others do the same.

Well Apple is selling the new iPads for you then, definitely not me

That Surface Pad/Pro/RT/XYZ does two things at once doesn't it ?
At least that's what those annoying commercials show. Get one of those if it fits what you want.

On a similar note, I don't understand the complaining if Apple doesn't give everyone things they want when there are other devices that do. Personally I wouldn't waste time posting and I'd take my money to whoever sells the device I want, buy it and now I have no reason for bad attitude.

So you never watched a YouTube video while doing something else on your computer? Highly doubt it

Tried it, can't say I am more productive for it, so I stopped it. Most of the time, I am so engrossed my work that I miss it whatever is paying in YouTube as well. Either way, I am not the multitasking sort who can focus on 2 tasks at any one time.

I guess my ipad 2 will get more miles, Apple with these BS updates. And I was hoping for something major. I'm sick of this obsession with thinness. I need more functionality.

Unfortunately, none of us can change that. We have to wait till Apple slowly adds functionality for things we request. We see that they've started to slightly open up with iOS 8 and iPhone with the introduction of bigger iPhones. However for now, there's only one solution:

I know I havent. When I do something I like my attention on whatever I'm doing. I can honestly say I've never watched a YouTube video while writing an email. Why would I? Then I woils only half be paying attention to the YouTube video. Or half to the email.

Not saying you shouldn't. Just...I never saw it as a must have feature

If you want to multi task, by the proper device that allows for that. Ipad never was a device to be able to write an email while watching a movie... Same goes for iOS actually.

The original ipad didn't have a camera but was added. what will you respond with when ipads have the functionality you say they're never intended for? is that when you'll stop buying them?

It's very simple, vote with your money. iPad doesn't do what you want, don't buy it and buy something else. Show Apple what's driving people away. They've responded to the bigger screens with iPhone 6 Plus after years of saying they have the perfect size.

Go buy a Surface Pro or Samsung Note 4, they do what you want to do. If Apple releases an iPad or iOS update that does what you want, you can buy it then. There is no point of waiting for something that may never comes.

Millions of people keep buying iPads because it does exactly what they want. Otherwise, they're just wasting their money for no good reasons.

I'm perfectly happy with the iPad's full screen single mode because I use it as a content consumption device, nothing more than that, and it has all the apps that I need and want. If I want more, I'd definitely switch to Galaxy Tablet or Surface Pro without any hesitation.

I did it on my tiny note 2, and I loved it

So on a 5" screen, you were watching a movie, had a new email sheet open, and an on screen keyboard.

All on a 5" screen, and that was a good experience?

Genuine question.

I guess it was cool that you could do it, but was it actually an enjoyable experience?

really--what do you want for $500--a computer?

.

Based on what i've read here--a lot of people buy the ipad on impulse and then struggle to find uses for it. I think most people who buy it rationally are generally happy with the product.

Besides the video, multitasking on an ipad should be a giving now. My note 2 has more functionality then an iPad Air 2,WTF

Then what are you hear for?

Apple has run out of ideas and lets face it there are only so many ways you can use an iPad. Trying to force in split screen multitasking into an iPad is a crappy idea. Youll try it a few times them when the novelty wears youll be upset because of something else. Its awkward.

Can't say I ever have.

I could understand Safari and maybe a text document, but videos really require one's full attention.

Yeah, really. Some of the use cases people come up with are outright bizarre. Even having five tabs opened while filling out forms on three of them at the same time bouncing back and forth between each one and then changing to play a game between all of that. Talk about ADD! Relax, complete one task and then move onto the next one. Why does everyone have to do everything at the same time?

And yeah, watching a video requires your eyes to be viewing the screen and , well watching the video. If you switch to email then you are not watching the video any longer.

My freeking goodness.

The lack of true multitasking has been the worst thing about iOS and they have to fix it before they can even dream about replacing the computer experience.

I multitask a lot and work with computers and text documents. It's completely ridiculous that they don't have split screen app support yet. Continuity, while awesome, is an incredulous attempt to side step the fact that Apple cannot manage multi-use devices by trying to encourage people to pick up their work later instead of being able to do simultaneous tasks.

People are defending the laziness of Apple too much here. It's not like adding this support is something that is hard to do or completely impossible. It's not irrational to want to watch a video on YouTube while typing up some work documents. I don't see how this applies as some asinine scenario that nobody will run across.

It's 2014, most people don't only do one thing at a time, especially on their tech devices.

Once Apple (eventually) supports this, you'll all see what people have been complaining about this feature that has been blatantly missing for the past few years.

I wouldn't want to use YouTube in conjunction with another app.

of course not, why would u. unless of course apple comes out with that feature in 8.2 and everyone gushes over it, how useful it is.

I have to say that is one of the best features of SP3
