I wouldn't want to use YouTube in conjunction with another app.

Neither would I and the original post was a bad example of split screened multitasking imo.

But emails and notes, or safari and notes, or safari and emails, now those combinations running side by side would have clear usages for me.

of course not, why would u. unless of course apple comes out with that feature in 8.2 and everyone gushes over it, how useful it is.

I have to say that is one of the best features of SP3

Absolutely true. I cannot fathom how people would think that running two applications at once, something computers have done since the '90s, is some sort of insignificant feature that is unnecessary for a tablet computer that is just as powerful as some desktops.

Imagine using a computer and only being able to use a web browser.

Safari and Pages would be amazing as a student. Maybe I should have thought about more applications....

Yeah that Pages and Safari combo would be amazing if I don't have access to my laptop for whatever reason...

LOL. I can't wait until Apple has real multitasking and everyone suddenly back steps on their "why would you watch YouTube while writing an email" comments. It's going to be great.

I guess my ipad 2 will get more miles, Apple with these BS updates. And I was hoping for something major. I'm sick of this obsession with thinness. I need more functionality.

Why would you write an email while watching a movie? As the rest of us homo sapiens you cannot multitask anyway...

The original ipad didn't have a camera but was added. what will you respond with when ipads have the functionality you say they're never intended for? is that when you'll stop buying them?

After how many iterations of iOS now and still that function is not here? I should have spoke more about iOS over iPad.

Hardware vs OS.

If they add it then I'll bow down but the only way I see that happening is transitioning the iPad into a laptop hybrid.

If you want multi tasking go get a macbook air or imac in conjunction with owning an ipad. Leave multitasking to computers. The way Samstinks and Microfail does it is terrible, which is proof to why apple should stay away from it

I'm amazed at the number of people who don't seem to think that multitasking is a thing, and a useful thing at that (on any device!)

On my Mac I've often got windows next to each other, especially when busy with homework or something like that, so I do think that multitasking is really useful, but I don't find the lack of multitasking on the iPad a deal breaker. Especially because I think that safari on half of the screen would be quit small, which will force you to scroll a lot.

Besides the video, multitasking on an ipad should be a giving now. My note 2 has more functionality then an iPad Air 2,WTF

Then why do you want an iPad Air 2 so badly if it doesn't have as much functionality as a device you already own?

I agree with the OP. I do love my iPad, but I probably won't buy another one unless they allow for two apps to be used at the same time. Some phones have this feature, yet we don't have it on an iPad. I would get a surface pro next if I didn't already have Windows.

The thing is that until iOS apps can be resolution independent, split window will not work. But to be fair, this is not something I would ever consider doing on my iPad or iPhone. Multitasking on that small of a screen is silly, and really, only a very small percentage of users would bother with it.
