Just curious and wondering from the date of your purchase of the mbp that your currently using, how long will it take or what will it take for you to upgrade.

Or if you will just keep your current mbp until its on its last feet like a true soldier?

For me I know I've been bit continuously by the upgrade bug but this time I'm going to keep this 17" mbp until the day it completely dies or first 5-6 years, whichever happens first, hopefully the latter.

Just got mine 6 days ago. If It can keep up with what I need to do, the longest i'll keep it is until the end of its AppleCare life (3 years).

Same thing. I'm planning on getting the Montevina MBP and I'll get Applecare. When Applecare ends I will ebay it.

Sorry I should have made it much clearer, I meant from your current mbp, how long will you keep the mbp?

i will keep it until i can't make anymore upgrades and i need a new computer which could be 6 or 7 years, i had a G4 for like 4 or 5 years and now it is my mail server with linux

Mine will have to be pried from my cold dead hands ;)

I keep my Macs until it is no longer practical to use it

prob another 2 years. I wont sell it it will just become 'that' computer that never gets used. Ill just replace it with what the current MBP is at that time.

Wow I'm finding out that most people like the 3 year mark, maybe after apple care has expired?

But then wouldnt it be harder to sell the mbp when apple care has expired or the price goes down?? Well I guess not.. since the current powerbook g4's are going pretty well for the price even without apple care.

I've always had a thing about keeping my electronics until they die a natural (or tragic) death.

I'm hoping this last one me many years.

It will be a few years. I bought my MBP a year ago and I see no reason to upgrade it to the latest ones just for a minor speed bump and small features updates.

I would say about three years is a very reasonable amount of time before upgrading is required.

I got mine about a month and a half ago. I'll keep it for a minimum of 3 years and will try to make it last for 4 or longer. My G3 iBook from early '03 is still in daily use.

I hope to add either an iMac (depending on their next upgrades) or a Mac Pro for a desktop in a year or so.

5+ years

My first Mac was a Quicksilver dual G4. I got it in 2001. In October 2006 I upgraded to a 2.33 GHz core2 MBP. Considering its speed relative to newer MBPs that have since come out, that was a great time to buy. But I'm planning on this one lasting until I get my PhD hopefully (ETA: 2011 )

Wow. I bet that was quite the performance jump.

7 years?

Ditto--sort of. I have a Macbook, which I bought last year (Dec '07). I'm hoping to keep it for seven years (ie, until Dec '14). Grad school (which starts this fall) is projected to take five years minimum (May '13). So if all goes well, I'll have had the same computer from my last year of college until at a year past grad school.

We'll see.

Forever. :)

But I will be buying a new computer before I go to College. This one should last me the 4 years of highschool! (I hope....)

I just got it about 5 days ago.
