I have the original Core Duo Macbook Pro, 2GHz, which I obtained back in March 2006 when they were still hard to get. It even has the "whine" problem that people where whining about back then, but the sound is so quiet that it doesn't bother me so I never bothered to get the motherboard replaced.

It *still* feels fast today, over two years later. At this rate, I plan to keep it until it starts giving me significant problems. The only shortcoming it has for me is the 2GB RAM limit; I wish I could put more memory in, but I'm not bumping against it that often so it's not even that big a deal.

Very happy with my purchase still, and I like getting every last dollar out of it.

Buy apple care before the year is up!! Its well worth it and down the line in 2 years before apple care is up if you have to send in for a repair 3 times I hear they just replace it with the lowest end mbp.

The warranty expires the day you bought the Mac right? If so then I have until late September..

just like zorinlynx, I have the 2 GHz core duo MBP from 2006... and it still feels very fast:)

I will use it until the day it dies or becomes so slow it's unusable. I think the former will occur first... hope for another 5+ years of good service from this machine!

Just curious and wondering from the date of your purchase of the mbp that your currently using, how long will it take or what will it take for you to upgrade.

I bought a PowerBook G4 in July 2004 and only upgraded last night to a MBP because my video render times were becoming more and more frustrating and because Aperture runs like a dog on the PowerBook.

I'm installing OS X Server on the PowerBook and will use it as a file server and VPN endpoint, so it'll still be in use. If I get an Apple TV, I'll probably use the PowerBook to feed content to that, too.

I'm expecting 3-5 years out of the new MacBook Pro.

Well, my PB G4 lasted about 4 years, until the screen broke and the CPU quit booting, then I went back to an old PB G3 for about a year (Ugh!) and finally broke down and bought the MBP in August '07. I suspect this one will last until at least 4 years, but if something really cool came out... ;)

I have an mbp from jun 06, and I still feel its quite fast compared to other 2yr old winblows laptops. I am planning to get the next upgrade just becoz I will get a huge discount from my ADC membership which will end in November.

Well this is my first Mac, bought April this year. I hope to keep it for around 5 years. My old pc soldiered on for about 6 years but by the end it was sooo out of date. Had trouble even watching you tube. Getting a MBP was like a dream come true!

I'm currently trying to buy a powerbook on the cheap to use as a secondary machine. I was even thinking about an imac g4 just to keep on my desk to use as a small server.
