I used to have 3 bars of 3G, and now it's showing 5 bars of 3G.

CONTACTS LAG IS GONE !!!!!!! :D Keyboard Lag is GONE! :D
IT'S SNAPPIER!!!!

From start to finish (I only had 2.0.0 on mine), it took about 12 minutes total. That included "setup" since I had never synced my phone with a computer before (6 weeks).

The "3G" logo is different.

This thread is for people that have ALREADY finished updating.
But please share once you are done! :)

  • Full 3G signal where there used to be 1-2 bars.
  • >2 hour backup now takes five minutes

I'm sure I will find much more but these are the two things that I was waiting for!

ok backups are a lil faster nun crazy though. it starts off fast then slows down alot.. well atleast on mine it did

New EDGE/GPRS icons
Genius playlist
Overall snappiness (although this may be due to the fact that you've restored the firmware)
24hr/12hr clock toggle
No discernible lags
Apps storage now have their own green area in iTunes usage bar

Change in iTunes

After the update, iTunes is now showing how much space the Apps take up.

contacts still has a lag for me after updating to 2.1

I have 2 groups of contacts, each with about 2200 records. Loading one group separately is a lot faster than using the "all contacts" option.

wow, I am extremely impressed with the signal fix. In a massive science building where I work, I barely registered a 3G signal at all, I am now getting a full signal with testmyiphone reporting just over 300 kbps (mind you, at home, I see >1.2mbps...but this is certainly an improvement over defaulting back to EDGE).

Contacts are definitely snappy...before, after a full reboot, the initial load would always take a while before I could search or scroll through the alphabet...now, it's instant.

New signal icons, blah blah.

When running a software update from the in-built Apps Store, it goes 1) significantly faster and 2) the icon retains its position.

Well honestly my phone was operating great before hand so its hard to see a difference.
I did have contacts and keyboard lag originally, but that only happened after I had the phone up for a while without a reboot.
So to test this will take a few days to see.
Never had problems with dropped calls or 3G performance.

But so far, so good.

I installed 2.1 this morning & I really don't see any difference at all.

I don't see a whole lot of improvement in the Contacts/keyboard lag issue, it still sucks in my opinion. My old HP 4510 PPC was a whole lot faster...even with 4500 contacts in the list. Maybe the iPHone just can't handle that many contacts.

Let's hope that it fixes the issue of Safari crashing constantly.

who has 4500 contacts. i dont even think that many people live in my town

2.1 still hasn't fixed my issue with safari not working right when trying to search these forums

If I hit the search button at the top of the forums several times before the search box opens up. Then as I start typing it just goes away. Hit it again and all is good. Takes too long to use the search feature. Been this way since upgrade to 2.x. This never happened with 1.1.4

Anyone else having this problem? I think I will record it and upload to YouTube to show everyone what I'm talking about.

I own my own business. I've been keeping records in MS Outlook for about 10 years and have imported everyting which includes the 4500 contacts and roughly 10 years of calendar appointments which I reference all the time.

One of the things that I'm really missing is a search feature but I can use Google Calendar for that right now until Apple finally puts a search feature on the iPHone...

What I have noticed so far.

Backing up is much faster
Synching is not, about the same

Ipod now has artist and name of song under song title, which is a great feature

Genius is AWESOME, it basically makes up for the fact that I can't use Pandora anymore.

Have no lag in contacts or keyboard, hopefully that continues.

3G signal has definitely improved... before update I would just be sitting in my living room and would flucuate from two-five bars without moving! Now it stays at 5 bars... also, I used to have about 1-2 bars in my basement and now I have 3-4! 3G speed seems good too...

I might be crazy but I think the darn phone is actually louder now? Anyone else notice this? When I play songs on speaker I used to have to crank it all the way just so it would be loud enough to hear it and now at full strength they are all blaring! Also, when I went into my sound settings, I had to INCREASE the my ring volume in order for it to be at full sound... but I know I had it set for full sound before the update?!? Maybe I am just crazy...

So far so good! I mean I want new features just like many others but it this really improves the overall performance... I am extremely happy and new features can come later! :D

that explains it then. still i would expect some lag with all that info

MobileMe Push not working

My emails aren't being pushed since updating. I've been testing it. Push (email) has worked flawlessly for the past week or so. Now I get nothing without a manual check.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Just did a quick test and mine pushed within seconds!

Biggest changes I have noted are:
-overall improved UT speed/smoothness
-HUGE boost in 3g signal indication
-Faster loading contacts & reduced time before I can scroll once list is populated (was ~5-8sec after population before I could scroll, now is ~1sec tops)
-Thusfar no SMS typing lag (it would only lag occasionally so only time shall truly tell)
-Backup MUCH faster (Sync takes about the same but is to be expected.)
-Revised Edge/3G icons
-With 2.0.2 Safari used to crash often on certain web pages but has yet to crash under 2.1... so far.
-NetShare still works

I used to get 2 full days of battery before it would be down to 10%, which was about 5-6 hours of usage time. We'll see if they can improve on that.
