Just did a quick test and mine pushed within seconds!

Guess I'm back in the "1%" of affected users again. I've been testing with a friend who has the same mobileme/iphone setup and he is reporting the same problem though. :(

I used to get 2 full days of battery before it would be down to 10%, which was about 5-6 hours of usage time. We'll see if they can improve on that.

Wow.

I used to get half that so I am hoping to at least get what you USED to get. LOL...

my 3G speed is about the same. It seems like when i have very low 3G signal 0 to 1, it switches over to Edge. i'm home in mountain view, and I'm getting NO 3G reception which I used to get with the previous FW. When I walk out to the living room, I get 1-2 bar of 3G. Sync time is definitely faster which is a good thing.

more info under the podcast and audio books (legnth, how long left, chapter, date) there is also a half played icon (as oposed to played or not played)

i likes it.

Is this update worth it for those who've pwned their phone? I don't wanna go through the whole quickpwn process again, and lose all my apps etc, if there's not alot to the 2.1 upgrade.

Also I hear people talking about backups. Is there a way to backup the apps ive got and then quickpwn, after upgrading? I find it weird no programs exist that will allow you to easily save all of whats on your phone, then quickpwn. It's alot of trouble to start all over again. Thanks.

QUICK NOTE

alot of people are saying that there ammount of 3G/EDGE coverage has changed... it hasnt.

the iphone is just showing the signal more acuratly. the speed will (should) be the same as it was.

UNDOCUMENTED FEATURES in 2.1

for me:

"LOAD PREVIOUS MESSAGES" in text messaging at the top,
probably to make txts load faster

new EDGE icon

contacts still has a lag for me after updating to 2.1

I have 2 groups of contacts, each with about 2200 records. Loading one group separately is a lot faster than using the "all contacts" option.

How do you load seperate contact groups? Mine only shows "All Contacts" and in Outlook I have two seperate groups, but I just figured the iPhone didn't let you load each seperately. How do you load seperate groups?

Thanks.

I'm still having a consistant problem where whenever I start to use the radio, by pulling up voicemail, or trying to make a call... the phone stalls, even when it says it has full bars, after about 10-20 seconds it will drop down to 1 bar without edge, and then after another 10-20 seconds it shifts over to "no service"

the only way to fix it is to put it into airplane mode and then take it out. (or restarting)

so it takes roughly 5-8 minutes to make a single call (almost every time... rarely does it work the first time) and I can NEVER listen to voicemail.

I've had this problem since 2.0.1 :( .. I was hoping this update would fix it, but it hasn't. looks like I'll be buying a blackberry.

It's not a phone issue, my roommate and a friend have the same issue as I do.

So if it is NOT a phone issue, how will getting a BB help?

sorry, I meant not MY phone issue, other iphones have the same issues..

Other telephones do not.... another roommate has a palm treo, and another a blackberry with no issues. (all on ATT)

I must say though... it is quicker at resolving itself now... it's only taking 5-10 seconds for each step which is an improvement.

ok, does the genius feature actually work cause i can't get it to work on my phone after the update. i know you have to tap on the artist artwork while you are listening to a song but all tha pops up is the repeat and shuffle icons

...nevermind. i figured it out. (I didn't sync, i just updated)

who has 4500 contacts. i dont even think that many people live in my town

Almost as big as my town :)

I have this many contacts, built up after about 10 years in enterprise software sales.

I hate to say this, but my Treo was better at loading / searching this many contacts than the iPhone. Not that I'll ever go back to Palm, but Apple does still have some things to improve to make the iPhone better for business use (at least at my scale).

That being said - it is a lot more fun to use that my old Treo.

Assuming in Outlook you actually have two "groups" (not catagories, which some people might take to be groups)...

Go to iTunes with the iPhone plugged in and select the "Info" tab. There should be a "Contacts" area in which you select "sync contacts with Outlook" and then check "Selected Groups" and pick your groups.

I sync my contacts with a PC - so these settings might be different than on a Mac running Outlook/Entourage.
