So now we have 2 iPhones:

1: The 1st Gen iPhone (also known as: Original iPhone, iPhone 2G and iPhone 2.5G)
2: iPhone 3G

I know that in the past, Apple has been pushing out new iPods every year or so and each year, the newest model is known as iPod 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G... the reason we label them as such is because the iPod name stays the same each year so we have to have something to be able to identify which model it is.

Now with the 2 iPhones, how are we supposed to start identifying them?

Just plain "iPhone" works for the original iPhone
iPhone 3G works for the 3G iPhone (2nd Gen)
What's next? iPhone 3rd Gen, not to be confused with 3G? iPhone 3G 3G? iPhone "new-function-here"? It's already confusing enough that people call the original iPhone "iPhone 2G" and "2.5G" I understand that they're talking about the data network generation, but what the heck are we going to call the 3rd Generation iPhone if 3G is already taken by the 2nd Gen (not to be confused with 2G).

This is very confusing.

What are your suggestions for how to name the iPhones? I think Apple should come out with cool codenames for the iPhones like they did with Mac OS X! That could be wicked cool! Of course these code names would not be ON the iPhone itself, it will still be just iPhone but, we could identify them easier.

The 3G iPhone won't yet have 4G networking. The 3G will have 3G. The 4G will have 4G. It will even out in two years; buck up until then.

I didn't know there was already a 4G network. Wow, I'm way behind on the times. My mistake.

iPhone "new-function-here"?

This is exactly what it will be. That's what the new one is, isn't it? iPhone (New Function), in other words, iPhone 3G.

What the feature is, who knows. But whatever is the most imporant, that will be the name.

The iPhone 32 GB?
The iPhone Longer Battery?
The iPhone Video Recorder?
The iPhone Video Chat?
The iPhone Cut-N-Paste (Since this apparently will require new hardware)

Neurotic.

I want it to be called iPhone More Powerful Than Superman, Batman, Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk, Data, Osmosis Jones, Bullwinkle, ED-209, Gyver, Jackie Chan, David Hockney, Megaman, Missle Command, File Cabinet, Fantastic 4, The Fallen, Unicron, Galvatron, and Sliced Bread Put Together.

. . . . .. .... .... .. . Oh man that'd be an awesome phone!!

:D:eek::confused::confused::confused:

I think they will call it the iPhone. Just iPhone. Nothing else necessary. They'll let us message board nerds figure out how to differentiate the models when discussing them.

Maybe a variety of models... iPhone ?Video - sounds bad but it could actually be it... it's been used for iPods and could be a "big" feature, iPhone Pro and iPhone Air/Nano?

yeah i think it'll still just be called "iPhone". the current one is called iPhone with 3G, so i think we're still on the 1st generation of iPhones. maybe it'll be called iPhone 2?

The iPhone oFace.

I'm guessing iPhoneHD(tm) as it will be capable of shooting video at HD resolutions. :D

My guess: iPhone Pro. It will be a new model to go with the one we have now, with a bigger screen, faster processor, etc.

Not sure how they can improve on the current 3G next year, other than perhaps a longer lasting battery. I think a new product category is more likely.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

the iPhone android!!!!!

They called the second iPhone the iPhone 3G, just to be very clear on the fact that it does in fact have 3G, since this was a major flaw to many on the previous iPhone.

The next phone will revert back to just the iPhone, since it is now apparent to consumers that the phone does have 3G.
