NEW 13-inch 2.0GHz - $2099 ($800 more than US Price)
NEW 13-inch 2.4GHz - $2549 ($950 more than the US Price)
OLD 13-inch 2.1GHz - $1649 (A raise of AU$150 from the old price, whereas US looses $100)

NEW 2.4GHz - $3199 ($1200 more than the US price)
NEW 2.53GHz - $3999 ($1500 more than US price)
OLD 17-inch 2.5GHz - $4499 ($1700 more than US Price)

Your thoughts.

Also does Australian prices include tax? US prices do not.

Thats horrible! The only way I could figure that is if it all came from extra shipping overseas...but even that is a little excessive. I think Apple really does need to work on bringing their prices down, although, this may be a result of all the lawsuits against apple lately...but I don't know.

I just confirmed GST is included so your A$2099 is actually $1372 USD before tax. $72 more than US. Nothing to see here.
 
I just read this on the Australian site. I'm so p*ssed off! I was hoping for a $1500 MacBook with nvidia gfx. Why did the US stuff up their economy now and not later!?
 
Mine says shipping 17-22 Oct. If anyone sees them in retailers I'd be interested to know too :D
 
I'm f*cking rope-able.

Look at it this way:

NEW 2.1GHz MacBook $1649 - $150 more than the old one.
NEW 2.0GHz Alu MacBook $2099 - $300 more than the old one.
NEW 2.4GHz Alu MacBook $2549 - $450 more than the old one.

NEW 1.6GHz MacBook Air $2899 - $400 more than the old one.
NEW 1.8 GHz MacBook Air $3999 - $461 more than the old one.

NEW 2.4GHz MacBook Pro $3199 - $500 more than the old one.
NEW 2.53GHz MacBook Pro $3999 - $600 more than the old one.
NEW 2.5GHz 17" MacBook Pro $4499 - $700 more than the old one.

That's ridiculous. No new fancy design and beefed up graphics is worth that much money.
 
Cannot believe this.
I was expecting something amazing, good looking that can actually compete with the much better value offerings from Dell and Acer. ARG.

Taking away features only to charge ridiculously more.
A step backwards in every direction.

Something is clearly going wrong at Apple.
 
this is horrid
i was hoping to buy a high end macbook for 2000 roughly the same as the old one but now hmmm your easily paying 3 grand for a good macbook 4gb ram and 320 gb harddrive
i can get a dell with 2 geforce 8800 gtx graphic cards for that and also faster processors for 3000
apple computers are gonna be very unpopular down under for a while
 
I confess, I'm rather saddened by the prices too... But the way I look at it, the MacBook I buy will have to last me at least 4 years at uni, and I use the computer nearly every day... So the way I look at it, that's around $2/day (including the interest on my loan). Realistically, when I buy the laptop, I have no intentions of replacing it any time in the next 5 years, so I'm ok with that. Especially considering I was planning on buying the old MBP, but can now buy just the MB with pretty much everything in it that had made me want the old MBP in the first place.
 
Pretty shocked! If my memory serves me right, to pickup the top end one it works out about the same as what the previous standard 15" MBP cost :(
 
Hopefully nobody buys them, so then Apple realizes the massive mistakes they made.
By dropping FireWire it's clear Apple doesn't care about the video markets, and uni students will look at the far cheaper offerings from Dell, Acer etc. I don't see a target audience?
 
exchange rates

Actually I think it has to do with the current exchange rate. It used to be like 1 USD = 0.90 -0.95 AUD a few months ago, now it's at like 1 USD = 0.70 AUD, so if you take the price of the old macbook with those exchange rates and compare it to today's macbook with the current exchange rate, it's probably more equivalent...

that is sooooooo lame if thats what their doin
if it is like that then why when the exchange rate was at its highest (1 aud for 0.965 usd) did the cheapest aussie mbp still cost $800 more than the U.S mbp ,apple are good to their main market the US but are starting to screw their overseas markets, i was gonna buy a macbook now but aint gonna go near an apple till the prices become descent. how many people in australia will pay $2000 for a mid range 13" consumer notebook as apposed to a high end 15" notebook. yes i know the apple looks better and has a better operating system but they both do the same thing in the end.
 
YES! i want to sell my MacBook Pro and buy an aluminium MacBook with the money but i think im going to have to put in a bit extra now.

i wish this credit crisis never happened. the dollar was around US$0.95 when i was researching new MacBook prices and it seemed to work out well for me. now the dollar is US$0.70 and the MacBook prices have increased :mad:… oh well ill probably buy one anyway :rolleyes:

dont get me wrong the specs on the new MacBook are absolutely amazing, its got a aluminium case, better graphics, backlit keyboard which made the MacBook Pro a better choice for me. i guess you can look at the MacBook as a whole new notebook compared to the older white/black one.
 
It's absolute BS is what it is. The average person can't afford it

it seems you have to be "rich" to buy one. I was struggling to by the macbook pro, that was 2400+
 
i'm glad i'm not the only one that feels this way.
but i do like the faster processor speeds and gfx cards....but what's the point it's only got a 13" screen...LOL
and for the high end Macbook, might as well buy the older Macbook Pro 2.4ghz which is more than capable of being used for the next 4 years.

As I said in an earlier post.
The Aussie prices include GST the US prices do not.
$1USD=$1.4AUD

Without GST your price is $A1908=$1372USD.
Price in US $1299USD
Difference $73USD.

Nothing to get excited about.
