On TomsGuide video review they mentioned that the tests were done on T-Mobiles 5g network for those asking.

TomsGuide Youtube
In the video he compares the iPhone 12 Pro battery life to that of the Note 20. I've used the Note 20 and the battery life was really good. I think people were saying the iPhone 12 has, what? 3800mAh for the battery? The Note 20 has 4300mAh, so it stands to reason it might last a little longer.

Still, getting 9.5hrs of SoT should be plenty for most users.

Does anyone have any idea why the pro would have better battery life? It's good to see its equal to the 11 when using 4g; no 5g in my area anyway.

Also don’t have 5g in my area, and I ain’t paying my carrier a extra $10 a month to use a service that isn’t fully available or ready yet . First thing I’ll be doing once I get my 12 is turning off 5G.

4G is very quick is Australia, I can easily get 400mb in my area.

Give us the Qualcomm X60 modem apple and a bigger battery.

Wow, I think you're right!

Problem is in the beginning he says "Here's how the Tom's Guide battery test works. It surfs the web continuously..."

One thing that happens for one second, than stops for 29 seconds, then goes all over again, for me is not "continuous".

His misuse of the word "continuously" led me to misunderstanding!

Agreed, it is worded strangely. I think their using the word continuously to mean periodically without stopping, but not constantly. Definitely bad word choice.

Super inefficient use of a battery to have it dissipate energy that way. If you are going to the effort to use a battery case better to plug it in and not lost so much power.
Exactly. I got a Mophie Access once, and the efficiency was horrid. I think my iPhone only went up 30% before the case was dead.

EDIT: Has anyone even tested the efficiency of MagSafe yet? Do the magnets holding it in exact place help any?

Well, as it stands, there is no way I’m buying any 12 or 12 Pro until the honest, real world reviews and tests are available. It doesn’t look good though. I wouldn’t want to buy a 12/Pro if I’m just going to switch off 5G. You’re paying a chunk of money for functionality that you are going to switch off immediately. I really don’t get that logic.
Also, it’s risky thinking that this could be config/software fixed later on. Where’s that iPhone 13 Macrumors page again?
I am also definitely lurking in the shadows this year before I decide to get one, if I do get one.

nope. unless you have access to significantly more spectrum. from the same amount of low-band block - currently used by 3G/2G for example - you cannot expect to get exponentially more throughput than you had with 4G. speaking of midband TDD or mmWave, you will most likely use the power hungry tech along with 4G or you lose mobile voice. 5GNR uses a more complex modulation in exchange for better spectral efficiency. and the efficiency in many cases will be visible on the MNO side.
Fnny you shuld say that, because thst is exactly what is happening (at least here in Norway) 3g is beeing turned off, and the frequencies are beeing reused for 4G/5G so those low vands will have karger frequency blocks avakable, hmm allmost as if the people runing these networks as a job actually know what they are doing, imagine that

I hope they make a MagSafe battery puck that you can just slap on when low on battery. The mini might need it. I don't want a battery case.

If Apple doesn't someone will. I think this is the best use of MagSafe. Saves folks from having to buy a battery case that becomes obsolete with each phone model.

More excuses but in every day use this phone will be weak in the stamina dept. That's a crappy score and APPLE touted 5g as it just got real and most people will turn it off lol.
And nothing to back up that data other than baseless assumptions.

The iPhone Xr had 1.5 hours more than iPhone 8 Plus which was touted the longest battery life iPhone in that generation. Then the iPhone 11 added 1 hour more on TOP of iPhone Xr.

iPhone 11 Pro added 4 more hours than the iPhone Xs.

All of the sudden, Apple lowers it slightly and you're assuming it's weak. lol that's a stupid comment.

I’m glad there’s an option to disable 5G completely. I know there won’t be any 5G in my area for at least another year or two. I probably won’t even ever use 5G on the 12 Pro before I upgrade again unless I go down to the Bay Area or LA lol

Great. I hope a YouTube does a 4g iPhone 12 pro max comparison with an iPhone 11 Pro max. I really want great battery life.

5G is a serious marketing scam, it doesn't exist, it doesn't reach, it drains your battery, and the area where it shines is downloading hundreds of MBs or GBs which is useless since you data plan is capped. This technology exists in "theory".

I have questions:
  • Does mmWave 5G drain faster?
  • Does mmWave 5G use battery looking for a hotspot (it's basically glorified WiFi) when regular 5G is connected?
If it does drain faster, then I'd like a toggle to turn that part off. I would never be in an area that uses that, especially in 2020 when you can't even travel into most big cities without quarantining for weeks.

Unless 5G gives me a better signal on T-Mobile at my house (can be a little low sometimes in the basement) then I'm probably just going to turn 5G off. I don't see any use for it on a phone. You can barely take advantage of speed like that on a full computer—much less on a freaking phone. It's not like anyone is watching 8K video on the go. And most sites load in a split second on LTE unless you're out in the sticks. But I'm kinda betting that Qualcomm modem will give me a better LTE signal and speed anyway.

Yeah minimum Telstra 5G plan is $65 i am on the XS business plan for $40, 5G is here in Coffs but i work from so mainly use NBN, when i do go out for work it's north or south of where you are in out of 4G/ 3G, or no reception lol.
They have a good deal with $50 off XL pan for 12 months and $100 credit ends today.

If the new Qualcomm gave us a bluetick i would be on it for sure.

How many hours per day do you think most people are on their phone?

So someone ends the day at 40% instead of 50%... what does it matter? It’ll still be at 100% tomorrow morning when they wake up 🤷‍♂️
