the screen on the 5G is surprisingly good and the Quicktime videos/ads etc do not do it justice, it is tempting but I already have a Shuffle and a mini........

Yeah video capabilities or not - these are the first full sized iPods I've personally found appealing. I have a silver 1G mini and I'm getting the 60 gig for xmas :)

Demand

Yeah, huge demand in NZ but the problem is there aren't any around. Am looking at the 60Gb iPod and quite a few retailers in Auckland are not prepared to commit a date of arrival.

LOL
"The iPod is on its last legs... apple have screwed up fatally."

And comments to this effect.

Go Apple!!!

The two things I use most in life, my PowerBook and Google are both seeing their stocks go up and up. So that makes my goal of retirement at 50 more and more likely.....Buy stock in what you use!!!

While i love the market for music videos being created.

No one is saying whether or not the videos being downloaded are all recent. or had been including sales/downloads prior to the introduction of the video ipod.

my bet is that this includes the info from prior downloads.

It's from the sales of the last 20 some odd days.. Since they introduced the Video iPod.

That's what I did.. I bought google at $276 and Apple at $39. $5000 dollars worth.. Then I sold the Google stock (due to peer pressure). I knew i should've stayed in... And I lost five hundred in Delta (Dumb move, I know)... But overall, my profit from Apple has been 56%..

Thanks Apple.. I love you.

Very nice, I like what I'm reading. The new iPod is going sell like crazy for the holidays. Apple made excellent timing with its release.

The 5 to 7 day delay isn't always accurate. I ordered mine on Sunday and FedEx had it in their hands mid day on Tuesday.

I'm amazed at the continued appeal of the iPod. I keep thinking it's going to level out at some point, but it just keeps exploding in popularity. A friend of mine who is notoriously anti-Apple (literally, he hates the company) just announced to me a couple days ago that he's going to buy a video iPod. It's surprising how rapidly Apple is winning over even its most fervent critics with this thing.

yep quicktime 7 pro for windows is in the top sales list on the apple store
Of course it's popular - Windows users want to convert those proprietary Apple files into something that plays for sure! :D

Yeah, AAPL is doing great. I made a 50% profit over several months. Too bad I got out, it's about 125% now.

The only thing I wonder about is the iPod w/ video is apparently fueling QuickTime 7 Pro sales, but do people realize that that won't really let them rip DVDs? If iTunes had a good DVD ripper in it, then people would buy the new 5G iPods like there's no tomorrow, and for Apple, there wouldn't be, because they would be sued into oblivion by Hollywood.

Bought 2,000 shares @ $17-22 pre-split. My wife said I was crazy, but I have the last laugh.

I recently bought QT7Pro for my iBook mainly so I could easliy compress the 320x240 15 fps MJPEG video clips that are generated by my digital camera into iTunes/iPod compatible format. I have other ways to rip DVDs to MPEG-4 if I choose to do so, and I would probably do so on my desktop PC.

I thought the iPod poho was a waste of money when it came out but told myself as soon as a video one hits shelves I will move up. I traded in my 3g 20gb for the 30 gig! It arrives tomorrow at 10:30.... I already have 12 hours of video to put on it! I am so stoked.

I hope this "faster sales than the nano" is proven soon, I can't wait to rub in in the faces of all the people who thought the video iPod would never sell.

too scratched

I was about to buy one, but while looking in the store, even the 5Gs were scratched. I don't use a case, and so my 4G is pretty marred up, so maybe they will use a different material?

i just returned my 5G white ipod back to apple.com. Battery life sux and it is way too scratch prone. i only had it for 10 days and there already were a few massive scratches and i almost NEVER take it out of it's case. Only to flip it over to connect it to my PowerBook! and the case was already getting all super dirty and worn out.

I dont want a product that im afraid to touch. Apple is my favorite complany, but im gonna wait this whole lawsuit out and probably gonna skip this gen of 'screened' iPods.

I bought a 1GB shuffle instead. and i can touch it! I had a U2 iPod before and sold it to get the 5G, so im still going through the shock of dropping down to the level of the shuffle, but i think i'll be alright, i just hope they hurry and change the material they use, both plastic front and metal backing, or at least make them scatch resistant.

I dont wanna hide something so beautiful in a case!!!!!

I Think Many Were Waiting For The Video iPod

I know I was. And now that I can't afford one, I'm waiting for the 6G version with the bigger 16:9 screen. Still love my 2G 20GB 6 pin FW unit I got for $299 after 3G was announced two years ago. It's only twice as thick as a 5G 60 GB video model and only weighs twice as much.:p

I LOVE my 5G iPod. I had a 3G 30 gig, and it served me well for a long time. I vowed to update as soon as Apple release a video-capable iPod.

This thing exceeds my initial expectations. It is beautiful, thin, and the LCD is stunning. This is, by far, the best iPod to date. We are a 4 iPod household; and my wife, who just watched her first episode of Lost on my iPod on a recent car trip we took, has informed me that her Mini is now inadequate. :)

I often wander through the Apple store and listen to shoppers questions and comments. On the day I bought my 5G, I overheard at least a couple of people who had come in to buy the Nano, but upon seeing the 5G, bought that instead. It has street appeal.

Handbrake Rips All DVDs Directly to iPod Compatible MP4 Video

Sorry Alex,
Apparently you are unaware that the FREE HandBrake will rip all Macrovision protected DVDs perrfectly and directly to iPod compatible files. QT 7 Pro not required. The fix is in Alex. And it is very nifty. I use HandBrake to rip all videos I post on my Vlog. It is the best MP4 ripper in the world for all sorts of applications. I port everything to DVD images then to mp4 via HandBrake. For me, it's the only way to fly.

I believe the word is out on the street and that the early adopters of the Video iPod all know this.

Buy A Screen Cover Case With It

I think the solution to this is to buy a new case that includes a screen cover made out of scratch resistant plastic or extra hard GLASS (I wish) at the same time as you buy the video iPod. That way it will never be directly exposed to any scratching possibilities. That's my plan. I will be shopping for a case before I buy the iPod. Waiting for the 80 GB 3" widescreen model. :)

Well, I do hope they are selling as well as we hope, and I'd like to see it continue. I love mine. Each iPod I've owned has been even better than the one before, but this one was a pretty big leap, in my opinion, from my 30 gig photo.

Being worn out is one thing, but you're actually acusing Applefor the fact that your belongings are getting dirty?????
