... This whole thing is making my head spin.

:D Maybe if your head spins a bit more, you will turn toward a memory supplier that actually tries to support Macs - I noticed that Corsair's site memory "configurator" listings appear to stop about 4 years ago. So, now you get to guess if they will help you with working memory (or not...)
I wish you luck... and patience.

Just a pain. So it goes! Will update when I know more. Thanks for going on this journey with me. :)

To update:

It seems like one of the sticks is bad. I believe I've narrowed it down to just one. That one stick crashes the computer just after it finishes booting, if not DURING boot. And it's always that stick that crashes the system. Interestingly, that one stick works just fine in my old 2012 27" iMac....

So the question is to I continue to go with this RMA nonsense...

I think I'm going to order 32GB of this from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR3L...1093&sr=8-1&keywords=crucial+mac+memory+DDR3L

*Edit*

Ordered. Hopefully tomorrow will be the end of this saga when the Crucial memory shows up (same-day delivery muhaha!).

Just got in the Crucial 4x 8GB Mac RAM, as my above post mentions (when Ontrac says before 9pm delivery, they mean 8:57pm, hah!).

Shoved all 4 sticks in. Booted up. So far so good. Uptime of 4 minutes, which is 4 minutes longer than with the replacement Corsair sticks. :D

FYI, I spoke to Corsair again today, and they're going to send me out the 1.35V Vengeance sticks instead of another set of 1.5V. At least that means I can shove them in one of the newer Haswell laptops or my Intel NUC, since I really don't trust Corsair in any Mac anymore.

Going to run some memory tests on the Crucial, and hopefully this will have solved my problems once and for all....

*prays*

OK so here's my depressing update:

I hit 7 days uptime without a crash just about 20 minutes ago. I pulled out the 2x 4GB OEM 2012 Mac mini RAM, and opened up the 4x 8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, and put it in my iMac.

Turned it on, it booted up, - all looked great. Got into OS X, yep - all 32GB recognized. About 10 seconds later, the system froze up completely (mouse stuck) and then BAM - it rebooted. What the heck?

I boot back up - get back into OS X, I try to download Memtest, and before it even downloads, system froze up again, and then BAM - reboot again.

I turn the system off, take out the memory, put the memory I had in slots 1 and 3 into slots 2 and 4, and vice versa.

Turn system back on, and less than a minute into OS X - system froze - BAM - reboot.

So now I'm just depressed. Put back the 2012 Mac mini RAM and it's working fine.

What the heck is going on here?

*Edit*

It will crash with any combination of the sticks, even with just ONE stick in slot 1. This is crazy...

Sadly that sounds like a compatibility issue between that ram and the newer chipset.

My iMac R had same symptoms as your, but....

Turns out I had a external hard drive that caused the problem that drove me crazy. I found the problem by chance. I trashed the hard drive, put back in the ram I thought was the problem and now everything is just fine. What a pain. What a relief!

Crazy. What drive was it?

Backup Plus Desktop Drive for Mac with Thunderbolt - Bad

Seagate - Backup Plus Desktop Drive for Mac with Thunderbolt 3TB.

I learned my lesson about Seagate a couple of years ago when 2 drives died in two years. The one that just died was the last remaining Seagate. Never again.

I have several of those and the 2.5" variant. Never an issue... Very odd.

What was the problem with it plugged in?

Periodic crashing, rebooting, or complete shut down. Sometimes it would work for a few days--then WAM!

This went on for a month before I figured it out. At first I thought it was the RAM I had purchased--not!

That's just very odd, and the first I've ever read about that sort of thing involving the Seagate Backup Plus desktop units. I've been using a bunch of them for years. Did you ever check the crash logs to see what the error was?

So, perhaps against my better judgment (or perhaps I can't leave well enough alone), I popped in the second RMA Corsair RAM, which on my request is this:

Corsair Vengeance Performance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3L 1600MHz PC3 12800 Laptop Memory Kit CMSX16GX3M2B1600C9

^ ^ TWO packs of these, for 32GB total. Manufacture date of 5 days ago (it made it to me in just over 24 hours from Taiwan. How crazy is that?)

So that's the 1.35V CAS9 they sell, and so far, so good... Going to run a bunch of memory tests on it to make sure all is OK, and if it is - I guess I'll send the Crucial back and save the money.

And just after 24 hours later with the 1.35V Corsair Vengeance, boom - reboot.

Here's the log.. - same as every other time with the Corsair...

Good thing I hadn't sent the Crucial back. I'll be using the Crucial for the next week, and then I'm 100% done with Corsair if there are no issues...

Two months ago I bought SK Hynix ram (made in Korea), put in iMac 27 - works without any hassle. I strongly recommend it.

So to update:

32GB Crucial memory has been working great for several weeks now.

http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-DDR3L...=1434565542&sr=8-1&keywords=crucial+16gb+ddr3

And to update, not 24 hours later, my iMac kernel panicked again in the night after about a week uptime (oh the irony). As usual, nothing informative. Ugh...

I'm guessing a software issue now...
You may be struggling with driver issues for one or more of your external devices (i.e., the seagate external, or your Steeremouse). The immediate fix is likely going back to Yosemite, until ElCap is a little further along in beta.
Unless you like fighting with "bleeding-edge" issues. :D

Right. The awesome thing is I can't even remember ever having kernel panics where it was simple to see exactly what was causing it!

Just had two in a row. I have no idea how to decipher it. I didn't save the first log. Can anyone help?

Using CL9 when iMac Retina requires CL11?

So far no panics and no other issues using mixed OWC and SAMSUNG. Got another 16GB of OWC coming.

There's nothing technically wrong with using CL9 memory in a CL11 machine. It will only run at the latency speed that the system can handle (i.e. if the iMac could only handle 11, it would run the CL9 memory at CL11).
