After testing two different methods for the issue and keeping each test up for 2hrs each I was unable to reproduce the issue that I had with the previous LG screens.

I've been testing for backlight but I don't see anything serious and I was not able to spot a dead pixel via those dead pixel website testers haha.

Congrats. I got lucky the third time. Previous two screens had an unacceptable number of dead pixels so I didn't even bother testing for image retention. New one is Samsung and it's a beauty.

Congrats!

I can't imagine having to go through 5 rMBP just to get a good one. All that time and effort.

I must be really lucky. The first ultimate I got was Samsung screen and Samsung drive. :D

For those with an LG screen have a look at your glowing apple on the back of the computer. Does it seem a shade pink to you or is it just me?

Also I've got my replacement rMBP coming in about 1-2 weeks. Considering it seems really clear that LG screens have IR and Samsung dont (generally speaking)....i'm kind of concerned I'm in for a LONG line of returns of LG screens that display IR.

Don't you ever run into trouble after asking for so many replacements? And yes in black and white you could technically do that forever as thats their own warranty/replacement guarantee but surely you will run up against some resistance after about the 3rd time.

Apple needs to find a way to have one supplier of screens across a particular product. We've seen this time and time again, two suppliers with very different quality.

I"m just confused as to what i should be unhappy about with my LG display..

perfect text
perfect whites
and deep blacks
no blacklight bleed... no dead pixels

You shouldn't. Some people are convinced that all the LG displays are defective in some way, because they've had bad experiences with them. But, as usual around here, people make assumptions for the masses based on their limited experiences. Just because a product works great for you, it doesn't mean that others won't have problems. Just because some others have problems with a product, it doesn't mean that you will.

I'm not saying that all the LG displays are perfect; surely some of them aren't. But all the Samsung's aren't perfect, either.

That should be possible...if you want to wait an extra x number of weeks to get your retina MBP. People were already screaming about how long it took. If there's only one company manufacturing the displays, shipping times would have been even worse. Having only one supplier isn't practical, logistically speaking. What if something happens and that one production line has to shut down? If there's no redundancy, things come to a screeching halt. That's a huge problem. The vast majority of people wouldn't notice a difference between the two screens, anyways.

Coincidentally, my 5th attempt was also successful. It's a Samsung (LSN) without any of the tinting, dark splotches, backlight bleed, or dents/scratches to chassis that my first four had.

"Pics or it didn't happen" is only used by those with nothing of value to contribute.

Most probably the ones that lack the ability to think for themselves, or the easily amused "cool story bro" types :D

i could come on here ad say the samsung screen is horriable for vise versa

u wouldnt want proof of post?

When the Late 2011 Air was launched there was literally a frenzy over the display, due to there being two venders LG Phillips & Samsung. Some even were even posting here on MacRumors how they could return their new Air with an LG display, before the machine had even arrived. Ironically when AnandTech reviewed the display`s they recommended the LG by a hair surprise, surprise the hysteria evaporated instantly. If by any means LG display`s are inferior to Samsung`s Apple would never use them in the first place.

The more likely scenario is that LG are simply supplying the majority of displays, hence the sacrcety of the Samsung panel and the superficial higher failure rate of LG. Anyone. Who has read the Anandeech review will know that the LG disply is one of the best ever to grace a portable as I am sure is the Samsung disply. Sampling four or five random panels is far from definitive.

As a community dont allow baseless posts to sway your decisions on returning perfectly good systems in the hope of some visual nirvana. If your display has issue Apple will fix it or replace the machine, however if you are in false hope of receiving a superior display by getting a system with a differing vender, you are only wasting your time and many others and risk actually receiving a defective machine.

AnandTech on the Retina;
All of this is really just wrapping however, as the real gift is the MacBook Pro’s first Retina Display. It’s easily the most beautiful display I’ve had the opportunity of using. Even more impressive to me than the iPad’s Retina Display, and enough to make me actually want to use the Mac as a portable when at home rather than tethered to an external panel. The added portability of the chassis likely contributes to that fact though.

The credit Apple deserves for the display extends beyond simply pushing LG to get a panel out on time and in large enough quantities. There’s a tremendous amount of software work that Apple put into making the Retina experience work under OS X. The OS and several key applications have been updated to properly support the MacBook Pro’s Retina Display, and things can only get better from here. Mountain Lion will improve performance and I would expect at least a few key app updates over the next year to bring increased Retina awareness.

As the individual you must filter the content of the internet very carefully, everyone is a "Pro", everyone is the "expert", for the most part they are not, some are well informed, the majority are not. If you need help to make a significant purchase, or qualification on hardware, wait for a recognised source, not the kid with 10 minutes hands on in Best Buy ;)

I'm not attached to any brand of component.

If someone says they are having a problem, I understand that's their experience.

As far as wanting proof ? Nope, I trust they are reporting accurately.

The ones that aren't make it pretty obvious.

It's as simple as that :)

Thanks!

Did you bother to read the description for the video?

"This link will show you the code and you can copy and paste it from there. The code has weird characters in it that youtube will not let me put it in the description."

I did. After being annoyed that you would expect me to transcribe that command from the video, then wondering why you couldn't have just sent me the link in the description or the command itself, like another user so helpfully did. Sure, beggars can't be choosers, blah blah blah, but why make me watch a video?
