Seems like some people thinking they are getting a great deal for Christmas are about to be really screwed. Imagine finding a new device at a great deal and you turn it on to find it blacklisted?

You've got to be extra careful when you are buying from anywhere that isn't a big retailer or carrier.

Headed for chop shops in Vietnam and China hidden amongst the containers of whatever UK exports other than neoliberal Oxbridge finance wonks.

Worrked at Apple Fifth Avenue for 4 years. First year back of house. Yes everything with a serial number is in the system as the products move. They will all be flagged as stolen and worthless to anyone that buys them. Yes as some have said some products don't have serial numbers. Those they can sell.

I can't believe I'm going to write this as it sounds so pedantic but as some other people have already posted along these lines, I'm going to join in... 😉

We don't have "highways" in the United Kingdom. We call them Motorways (that's what the "M" is in "M1").

I'll get my coat.
Although we do have The Highway Code.

Almost seven million dollars worth of Apple products have been dramatically stolen from a truck in the UK, Northamptonshire Police reports.

A truck driver and security guard were transporting a large number of Apple devices in cargo before being accosted by thieves. The incident took place at around 8pm on Tuesday, November 10, on a slip road off the M1 highway, where the driver and security guard were targeted and tied up.

In what appears to be a carefully planned heist, the truck was driven to Crick in Northamptonshire, where the thieves transferred the trailer to an awaiting truck, and left the original truck driver and security guard behind.

The truck was later found in Lutterworth, Leicestershire, where it is believed the thieves transferred a total of 48 pallets of Apple products onto a third vehicle and escaped.

Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses and individuals who have been offered Apple products for sale in unusual circumstances or for suspiciously low prices.

unless it’s AirPods or cables it’s a waste because the iPhones, iPads and macs are definitely going to be bricked lol

For any other British criminals who need inspiration, the A14 trunk road runs from Felixstowe to Catthorpe.

Hmmm idk man. 10 year Apple Retail guy here and if a brand new consumer-end product is stolen it can be flagged when it comes to AppleCare support, but the products are 100% usable otherwise. There’s no magic button for regular devices that makes them not usable especially if they aren’t managed and don’t have Apple ID’s associated.

When it comes to imaged/demo devices, THOSE are useless. They’re in the Backstage / Back of House system and are actually managed.

Stupid thieves if you ask me, They don't think there is a manifest with every device Serial # of every device in that shipment. Those will be flagged the second they are to be activated. LOL
The thieves are not stupid, it's the unsuspecting buyers that will be the losers when their purchases fail to activate.

The thieves will still get maximum returns on their loot.

Syncreon, Apple's UK partner for logistics and fulfilment, has two large hubs a few miles north of where the alleged robbery took place. Assuming that the lorry had departed one of these hubs with a full load, heading south on the M1 motorway, it's not hard to imagine that the thieves had followed the lorry from the hub and somehow pulled it over on the slip road to the M1.

Has someone already worked out the product mix for $6.6 million of Apple kit that fits (maximised) into a standard UK lorry (truck). Sounds like a lot of iMacs to get in one truck. 2933 iMacs at A$3k a piece in $6.6m. 8,250 iPhones at $800 a piece. That’s more like it. Leave it for someone else to calculate the package volumes.
