I would buy a six or seven inch iPad. I dont see the need for an iPad now with a MacBook and and iPhone, but the utility and portability combination of an iPad that size would be hard to resist.

I laugh every time the Apple mouthpiece rants about what bad ideas everyone else has. He goes on and on, like the explosive condescending rant over netbooks. Then just months latter he got one ready and suddenly it's gonna change everything. Yeah right.

If indeed he tells the engineers to build a 6" it's only because his ego would melt if it was the popular 7" size that so many others are working on.

Apple truly has a split personality. The workers bees are well balanced and produce the goods. The CEO acts bizarre & well... you know :)

Dumb size, dumb to piss off 100% of iPad 2 buyers by out-dating their purchase in 6 months.

Steve gets sick, Apple's IQ drops precipitously.

Not Going To Happen

Steve was pretty adamant about a smaller iPad not working. And I know he's denied things before only to have them released a few months later, but this wasn't a simple denial. He went into pretty lengthy detail explaining exactly the reasons why it was fundamentally a bad idea.
I agree. I have very high level of doubt this will ever happen.

Really can`t see this, Apple have already quite publicly said that they don`t see a point to a small (7") tablet.
I remain to be convinced about them myself, just feels like an oversized phone.

Thing is, up to point, what "Steve says" is usually what Apple does.
Given recent events I suspect some things Steve would not agree with may start to happen.

I agree Apple isn`t Steve Jobs, but he has an undeniable effect on the whole company.

Total RUBISH, just like the iPhone nano - this is not news and not certified rumors - just plain rubbish gossip

I suspect you are correct.

Steve has built up a team over the last decade that are most likely on the same page as Steve and with or without him I don't foresee any shift in thinking on most issues. My biggest fear is one of the top members of that team jumping ship with all their inside knowledge one day. Hopefully they are all well enough paid, not to mention morally invested, not to do that though.

I don't see myself buying a 6 inches iPad. Especially after seeing Samsung Galaxy. Too small. Steve is right as usual!
He was also right when he told everyone they didn't need 3G on the first iPhone and then came out the next year with it. Think for yourself !!!!

Do you realize how using the "ACE" just reduces ANY argument you make to bellyaching and complaining? It's like the geniuses who use "M$" for microsoft.

Some rumors just need to go away. Steve has publicly said smaller tablets are "Dead On Arrival". He's a brilliant guy, but he's stubborn and even if something he previously denounced seemed like a good idea, he's not one to change his mind. No small ipad, no SD card slot, no slide-out keyboard on your iphone, no iphone nano, and your brand new apple computer is always going to be one generation behind the curve technology wise and cost twice as much. I for one would like the tablet to have higher sensitivity and come with a stylus for artists, but ever since Steve gave everyone the "finger" when the iphone was announced, I think I'm out of luck.

6 is just an obscure size, dosent apple follow a set of size ratios what would the one down from 9.4 be . Think thed want a size that runs apps without changing for developers.

The current iPad is proof that you can run apps from a smaller device (iPhone) on a larger screen (iPad). So there is nothing stopping Apple from releasing a 6" iOS device and running apps at iPhone resolution (with enlarged controls).

Smaller is what is tough, because the on screen control buttons get too small.

At the time the first iPhone was released 3G coverage was still sparse, things changed and apple added 3G.

It is certainly possible for things to change in a way that leads Jobs to think that a 6" iPad is also a good idea. Even if it wasn't a good idea before.

But then its an iPhone-like device, which would just be an iPod touch with a bigger screen.(And I know people say thats all the iPad is, but when you compare iOS for iPad or iPod there is a clear difference in apps both 3rd party and 1st party built in)

They've got it all wrong.

Why is this so difficult for people to figure out. It's not a smaller iPad that's being developed; it's a slightly larger iPod Touch to be sold alongside the existing size mostly as a gaming and pocket reader device.

Scaling up an iPhone/iPod Touch app from a 3.5 inch retina display to a 6 or 7 inch display will still yield decent pixel density and none of the problems with UI elements being too small.

Perfect. @ 6" it's perfect for going anywhere.

My original tends to stay at home where it belongs. It's far too big, heavy & thick to put in the bag with my beautiful new 15" MBP.

Traveling with a full blown laptop (a necessity for me) there's simply no room for the bulky iPad. It's also quite impractical on long airliner flights.

It's those reasons That will compel me to buy one immediately.

If Apple abandons us & ignores the mid size form factor I'll simply buy an Android tablet & enjoy flash.

My new HTC Inspire, is the best of the three Androids' I've had thus far.

At no time in recent years have we had such wonderful alternatives to Apple. I hope Apple sees the handwriting on the wall since they are still my favorite.
