What is the over/under on next week seeing this headline:

6 Inch iPad not in development after all.

The iPhone, iPod Touch are just big enough to barely fit in a pocket. The 6 Inch iPad really defeats both that purpose and allowing the pages displayed text to be easily read.

eaxactly - neither here or there really

i would love a 1.5" bigger iphone screen tho

I sincerely doubt that this will happen, but I would love an ipad that size. The ipad's too big to fit in my pocket, the iphone is too small for a lot of uses. A tablet about the size of a kindle would just barely fit.

I'm willing to believe that apple tried a variety of sizes and found that 10" was a good size while 7" was just too small, but 7" is a lot more portable.

It'd be a great and smart move for Apple to market a 6" iPod touch and make all the other 7" tablets look like just a big iPod touch. Steve Jobs wouldn't waste a second shoving it in their competitors' faces. :p

One of the great things, for me, about the iPad is that many of the apps are different. With the xtra real estate, developers can deliver the same app with more content, menus, etc. on the screen and still make it readable. With a bigger screen on an iPod Touch, you may not necessarily get all those extras found in an iPad version of the app and it could just be the smaller version of the app on a bigger screen (think the 2X versions on the iPad). I suppose just like there are universal apps for the iPod Touch and iPad, developers could create a version that supports a 3rd size but that may be a pain in the butt for them.

I picked up a Tab at a store and didn't like it that much. Thought the screen size would be too much of a sacrifice for the extra portability when comparing it vs the iPad. I have to be honest though, if Apple did come out with something in the middle, I'd take a long look at it.

Realistically, it would make more sense for the iPod Touch to be re-branded first. Since the iPod Nano now has touch controls too, the iPod Touch name doesn't make as much sense, because when it initially came out, it was the only iPod with touch control.

Secondly, because the iPad-WiFi is essentially a large iPod Touch, it would make more sense to just ditch the iPod Touch entirely and have different sizes of iPad; such as 7-inch and the current 9-inch.

In the future, these iOS devices are going to converge so much that the only thing separating them will be daft names.

Long live the 10" screen

Hi,

Just tried out the Blackberry Playbook with the 7" screen and it's basically 1/2 an iPAD. It was way too small to surf comfortably and definitely too small to type on for any length of time. My hands were cramping up just trying a few websites.

I am thinking Apple got it right the first time re: screen size. Of course, they got a lot of other things right too (but I'm sure the competitors will catch up in a year or 2....maybe....).

You're not the only one...

I'm just thrilled that I have am high functioning and don't have to rely on Daddy Steve to think for me, tell me what's best for me. Or tell me how it's gonna be.

The freedom I enjoy will never be experienced by Steve's minions.

Dude, I totally get you. You're not the only one that feels that way about Steve Ballmer.

No.

This is pretty simple, no.
Can you imagine how stupid it would be? Steve gettin' up on stage saying, Mornin' guys, today were introducing our latest product, and by far our favourite so far, the 6" iPad :) Yep, we've litteraly taken the iPad and taken 2-3" of it and now your all gonna buy it cause it's even more magical then the original :)

+1

I personally find a 6" iPad not appealing in the least.

Maybe if there's a market for it, people will bite, but I doubt it can compete with the std. sized iPad line.

Or perhaps: iPod, iBook, iPad.

Each to its own niche.

Sure New name and probably custom Screen res that works somewhat with both iPod or iPad apps, but has custom apps to take full advantage.

How about iPage?

I just think they'd want to extend the "iP..." branding.
Then you get the double meaning think of a Page being a sheet of paper or "a boy employed as a personnel assistant to a person of rank"

Sounds like a big iPod Touch

How about an iPod nano 4G with a retina display and facetime? Best freakin' watch ever.
