Incorrect - perhaps you need your physics updated. All things being equal except pixel size, a sensor with more smaller pixels will always provide better pictures. For low light situations, you use aggressive noise reduction and down sample to produce a picture as good as the reduced resolution larger pixel sensor. For higher light situations you produce picture with much better resolution that the lower resolution sensor can’t provide. If the overall sensor area is the same, the light gathered is roughly the same regardless of pixel size and that is what matters.
It is only in very niche extreme low
light design intentions that the few percentage points of improved light gathering from larger pixels makes sense.

In fact, I am aware of some good discussions and facts supporting your viewpoint. Unfortunately they are in the context and of a larger cameras with optimal optics.

The article supports your viewpoint but also has some caveats. The issue is, unlike dedicated cameras, we are dealing with tiny, small pieces of glass that cannot possibly proper refraction or provide proper coverage in a compremised design. They are also often paired with aggressive noise reduction and as in the case of Samsung Moon shots, image replacement.
In prime light I 100% agree it can provide great detail, but the trade off is also somewhat silly. RCS and iMessage are going to compress such shots, storage on device is going to fill faster, and uploading via 3rd party methods is going to absorb way too much bandwidth.
I'll gladly take a 1" 50 megapixel sensor and extended optics over a cramped 200 megapixel specification brag.
