In the interest of clarity, that is a 512ke as opposed to a 512k. Nice find!

Is the screen dark? As in, if you turn the brightness way up, you still see no glow at all? If so, whack the left side of the case. Does it flicker the dark monitor at all? If it does, you probably just have a dry solder joint on J1 of the analog board. Try refreshing the solder on it and the larger connection to the Logic Board.

The drives whirring non-stop can sometimes indicate bad bourses filters on the Logic Board.

Not much of a welder so I think I'll hold off. Kind of a collection piece for me and still have the others to use with actual applications and games. Thanks though!

I have a large number of "collection piece"s and most all of them need a little attention. Soldering is a skill you either need to learn or be willing to pay for if you want to be in the vintage computing hobby these days.

I guess, thing is my other vintage pieces work mostly just fine so if I ever get the itch to use any old software I can use it with them. Also, I collect for the look and my interest in these old machines.

A friend posted elsewhere that he came up with a 512K this morning at a thrift shop for $14.99, no keyboard/mouse, but it turns on to a blinking disk ..

.. they're out there still :)

I have read somewhere that the high pitched noise you heard while running the M0001 Macintosh can come from a faliling capacitor, these things need often to be replaced on older machines.

Friend of mine thinks its something with the speaker, but I'm too nervous to crack it open ;P

Just curious, for the original mac I have the sticker on the back is covering something. Would it be a bad idea to take it off? I'm very curious

Since it's a bogus sticker .. ;-)

.. but I don't see where it looks like it's covering anything, because what was there is a raised surface like the Apple next to it. You may be seeing glue residue showing through the thin sticker.

I would leave it. It seems to be fairly unique. I know I've never seen one like it.

I decided to leave it, the only raised porting I feel under the sticker is in the middle if that helps anyone guess what's underneath.

Not to hijack your thread, but I found that my find fit right in with yours, so I figured I'd add it here. Picked up a Macintosh Plus for $25 this past week! :D Although no keyboard or system OS floppy, so I'm going to need to pick up those two.
