Let's compile a list of any movie or TV show etc. that has used a Mac somehow in the show. I can think of a bunch right off the top of my head, but I think we should limit how many we each put down so that we can give others a chance to put some in as well...I'll limit myself to one per day until I've exhausted all of mine. Make sure you list how it was used too...

Have fun!

I'll start simple and early.

Star Trek IV - Scottie uses the Mac to come up with some formula or something...

Captain Obvious here...

Seinfeld featured several Macs during its run. Let's see... started off with a compact Mac, probably an SE/30. Moved on to a DuoDock setup, and then to a TAM.

I'll add another show: Good Eats, on the Food Network (great show, if you've never seen it). Alton Brown's Mac laptop gets some airtime once in a while. I've seen him using an original iBook and a TiBook in a couple different episodes from different seasons.

Friends

Ross and Chandler both had powerbook g3s on friends, and Scrubs uses the TiBook.

The Drew Carry (spelling?) Show used a purple iMac for quite sometime.

There were some episodes of Home Improvement where there was the original iMac up in the boys room.

I'm not quite sure about this one...but the "new" Lingo on game show network uses a Mac Keyboard and Mouse so I imagine they use a Mac to run the Lingo board.

The Price is Right has given away Macs before, just last week they gave away a G4 iBook.

Independence Day

Jeff Goldblum uses a powerbook.

I believe that sarah jessica parker uses a powerbook in Sex in the City

There is a kids show that my 3 year old watches that has a Flat Panel iMac in the background.

There are a ton of movies that are using macs in them now.

The local(in Rochester NY) commercial for Roadrunner. All the desktop shots are OS X.

They appear on the Bernie Mac ( ha ha ) show quite regularly. I also see them in many many commercials, most notably Time Warner Cable. In fact they copy the Apple commercial with the white backrounds all the time!

I have seen a few macs on Dawsons Creek. Errrr, I mean, my wife saw a mac on Dawsons Creek. :D
They even had one episode where Dawsons dad wants to buy him a pc laptop. Dawson does not want it because he is a mac guy. He goes on a little diatribe that you are either a mac guy or a pc guy. (again, my wife told me this.);)

Off the top of my head:

Jurassic Park (but bad guys use PCs)
The Net
What not to wear
Designing for the Sexes
Doonesbury (Not a TV/Movie, but still...)
Blondie (ditto!)

I'm sure there are a LOT more.

I saw a powerbook on "Average Joe" show last week. They had a piece of tape over the apple logo though. I also saw an iBook on last weeks Chapelle show, again the apple logo was covered by tape.

I saw a 15" TiBook on Monk a couple of weeks ago, and I've seen quite a few Flat Panel iMacs on a variety of shows, just can't remember which ones.

I don't own a teevee but I must get in the mail once every two months the following catalogs which use Macs to accentuate their products:

1) Pottery Barn
2) Crate and Barrel

I've seen Powerbooks, iBooks and iMacs in the catalogs. Also, if you happen to venture into one of these stores they have colored eMacs adorning the desks they are selling - at least at the stores in MI.

CSI:
CSI: Miami
Spike TV (Self Promtion ad uses 17" AluBook)
Drew Carey (Had a PM7200, A Cube, and now a bunch of iMac2's. At home started with a PS/2 [I know a PC] then a Blueberry iBook, then and iceBook... don't know what he has now)
ER (Dr. John Carter has a Ti/Alu Book as his personal Computer)
Monster Garage (at least an Apple LCD for Computer Graphics)
Star Trek: Enterprise (All the LCD's are controlled by 16 G4 Cubes)
Monk (You usually see at least one Mac per episode)
Saturday Night Live (Almost all computers used are Macs... Plus the web-cam sketch uses Safari in OSX, used to use Netscape in OS9 until this season.)

TEG

1) Rove Live! (Australian talk-show thing)
*He uses a Powerbook on his show, before that he had a iBook Tangerine.

2) Sex & The City (Wonder why nobodi mentioned it?)
*Mostly Carrie's old G3 Powerbook. One episode had her G3 fooling up, where some Mac error terms spring up a fair bit.

3) Smallville
*A lab of CRT iMac's

4) Hackers (Can hackers be socially aware New Yorkers? No, I didn't think so!)
*Features Motorola 68040 PowerBook Duo's & a PowerPC PowerBook Duo. However the actors acknowledge that the PowerPC Duo had a RISC P6 chip???? No wonder they f**cked up the official site when it was released....

5) Sooooo many anime's feature Macs. Some old 80's mech ones show old 128k's even.

PS: Please don't stone me to death for watching Smallville, it's only to check out Kristin Kreuk! :D

I'll hafta have a good think about his coz i have seen a few.

"Daddy Day Care" which i saw a couple of days ago, opens with Eddie Murphy working at a Powerbook (asleep at it actually). It features quite prominently several times.

Also, just about every "Behind the scenes" I see on DVDs is like "Count the Macs".

Maybe Macs feature so often because of the old entertainment industry adage "Never work with children, animals or PCs" :D :D :D

In the West Wing they all use 15 inch aluminum powerbooks with the presidential insignia over the apple.

In Judging Amy I've seen new iMacs, old iMacs, and powerboks everywhere.

They're basically everywhere--commercials too. Historians would think we all used Macs in this time period based on TV exposure.

Whenever the Simpsons use a computer it has the Mac look--the interface anyway. When Homer did his "work from home" thing his computer "gonged" when he turned it on.

There was a bit on Chappelle's Show last week that used a whole bunch of iBooks. Then there was the bit last season where he said how much he likes to watch porn on his Mac--high resolution and nonstick keys.

We should do a study--Mac vs. PC in the media. Watch a whole bunch of TV and when you see a computer note whether it was Mac or PC.

TV shows - Spooks (UK) had a prominant set of Macs in the office - from iMac flat panels to G4s and cinema displays. They also had some iBooks.

24 - Macs in that
Superman (New Adventures) - Macs running System 7..

Movies - just about every one you can think of. This is because Macs look classy and most movie scripts are probably written on Macs anyway.

A couple off the top of my head..

Austin Powers Goldmember - Austin uses a TiBook
What Women Want - B&W G3, iMacs, G3 PowerBook..
Bridget Jones - G3 iMacs aplenty

The general rule of thumb is: Macs are used as the computers. If there are any PCs they are reserved for the bad guys. In some cases (e.g. 24) you can guess the bad guys and even plot twists by judging who uses a PC and who uses a Mac..

- Forces of nature
- 40 days and 40 nights (which i succesfully completed as a challenge, so it can be done :p )
- School of Rock
- Mission Impossible and Idependece Day (common there were commercials)
- Kate and Leopold

Macs are everywhere, they are stylish, good looking computers and easily fit into most decors, vs "UGLY BAIGE BOX"

i have always figured it would be easier to throw a Mac into a shot seeing how the movie makers are probably working them as it were, "borrowing" it for a given shot seems logical to me.

You'll see them use in most catalogues to sell desks/office set-ups/kids room simply because a Mac always enhances the room, there are no cables to detract from the furniture you are selling, and because they have small footprints, they make the desk surface look lots bigger too.

They're in M&S's new catalogue (minus logo)
and John Lewis (with screen showing)

And to stay a bit more OT, in the only segment of the BRIT music awards last week, there was an AlPB shining out from behind the synth during Duran Duran's set

And wasn't there one in 'You've Got Mail'

The West Wing - C.J. uses a TIbook in practically ever episode. Toby uses a G3 powerbook or did.
Sports Night
Happy Family - use iCal and an iMac
Two Weeks Notice
Novacane
American Pie
Austin Powers 3
Friends

I remember seeing an older iMac in the room of the teenaged girl who buys the farm early on in The Ring. Agent Starling is using OS 9 on her home computer in Hannibal. I think I remember a couple powerbooks in the Mission Impossible flicks. Reese Witherspoon had a tangerine iBook in Legally Blonde, and just a couple weeks ago, I noticed a couple iBooks in Lost in Translation. And of course the big guffaw that comes from Tom Hank's investment in Forrest Gump

On TV, I remember seeing Apple products all the time on The Pretender and The X-Files. I remember seeing a powerbook at least once on Alias.

and probably the worst use of a mac in a movie/tv show:

Zoolander

(for those of you who haven't seen it, Owen Wilson throws a tangerine iMac onto the runway at a fashion show from fairly high up)

I think that of all the scenes with computers that I've ever seen, 99% of those computers are macs.

I remember seeing Macs in movies being used to hack into places, and I would think "i can't hack anything on my mac!".

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Buffy the Vampire Slayer!
Willow uses an old Powerbook in the older seasons, but in the newer ones she uses a new iBook!
