sadly mac's are being phased out of the bbc the only department i know of the uses them is the video editing for fcp and web desighn which my freinds mum demands the use of a mac.

but overall you just cannot beat the indipendence day apperence

"the powerbook thta saved the world."

In the UK, the sitcom 'Absolutely Fabulous' have often had an LCD iMac in the background in their kitchen.

The teenager in the sitcom 'My Family' has a G3 iMac, if memory serves.

n ab fab as they had a g4 cube in the basment and the doughter titanium powerbook never noticed an fp imac

Office Space used a mac - but it was coupled with what appeared to be DOS. It looked like OS9...then suddenly a command prompt - in the "escape" and "virus" scenes.

the drew carey show has featured Macs since god knows when :)
iMacs/iBooks/G4 Cubes/PowerBooks/iPods/Macworld/Macaddict, name anythign Apple/Mac related and it's probably been on the Drew Carey Show.
Alias also has lots of Mac stuff too. I think the CIA (in the TV show) uses either Xserves or Dell rack mount servers though, not sure.
But Legally Blonde 2 only featured a pink iPod, with lots of Gateway notebooks :(

Apple gets tons of free advertising in all sorts of movies and TV shows. Unfortunately for Microsoft, they have to pay them to put their products in there :)

there's a brand new gap commercial for stress free khakis, where the guy is seen holding and listening to an ipod (white headphones tip it off) at least twice. Not really a computer, but still..

Let's compile a list of any movie or TV show etc. that has used a Mac somehow in the show. I can think of a bunch right off the top of my head, but I think we should limit how many we each put down so that we can give others a chance to put some in as well...I'll limit myself to one per day until I've exhausted all of mine. Make sure you list how it was used too...

Have fun!

I'll start simple and early.

Star Trek IV - Scottie uses the Mac to come up with some formula or something...
Remeber the sit com Night Court? Judge Harry Stone had an SE or a Plus over in the corner in his office.

Yes, and his clerk was called Mac, but his real name was Macintosh. He said it was because he was "The Apple of the Family."

Also, Canada's Telus Phone service DSL uses Drew Carey styled Macs in commercials (ie the Apple is replaced by a circle)

My two Local ABC affiliates use Mac OS in some of their promos, usually using IE, but some times using Safari. (KOMO & KATU)

The CBS Affliate in Flint, MI used Safari to advertize their website.

felicity

felicity had some macs. Noel had an Imac, and felcity had a clamshell ibook. the character ruby also got a mac, though I don't know if it was ever shown, there was lots of talk of macs though when she was thinking of buying a computer.

there are macs everywhere in 24 the daughter has a clamshell in the first serise and the office is covered in studio displays

I am pretty sure that Rove [live] actually use sony viao's because they give them away all the time and make a big deal out of it all the time. Unless they have changed since I last saw rove last year, silver doesn't always mean apple.

There's an advert on UK tv at the mo. A guy is sending messages on his MSN messenhger on his PC, whilst his girlfriend sends emails back to him on a mac (u can only tell it's OS X) . The volkswagon advert does this time lapse thing where the guy upgrades to a G5 over time

Duplex, Ben Stiller uses a Prismo (I think) and Barrymore uses a Ti. Her work is also sporting iMacs. What is funny though, when the prismo accidently falls into the fireplace, it looks like there might be PC ports on the back...

There should be a show that focuses on Macs. Like a couple of mac fans and their exploits in a Windows world. I'd watch that.

girlfriends on UPN, they all use Tibooks, Albooks and other apple laptops.

I saw a commercial for a satellite cable internet provider that had i belive a Tibook to demonstrate their wifi everywhere service.

Here is a french website that has it pretty well covered.

Apple au cinema et a la television

I noticed a white iBook on 'Home & Away' today (it's an australian soap they show here in the UK.)

Also, in Absolutely Fabulous (UK) , I've seen:

*flower power iMac [in the office]
*iBooks [edina's web designer has one]
*studio displays [office & home]

lol, I also have the habit of saying 'Oh, is that a Mac?' when I see one on TV. It winds everybody up :)

asif

p.s. you should see me when the ipod ads come on! :D

5) Sooooo many anime's feature Macs. Some old 80's mech ones show old 128k's even.

Speaking of anime, in Neon Genesis Evangelion somewhere around episode 17 they not only use a Powerbook to monitor Unit 01, but I've been told that a NGE branded Powerbook was actually available for resale as a special promotion from Gainax and Apple. I saw a picture somewhere but it was years ago...
The background in Gunbuster during the "Aim for the Top! Science Classroom" is an old mac (the show was late 80's/early 90's so whatever was current then).

And for markoibook, the lab where they built Buffy's nemesis in Season 4 had a cluster of G4s. I Don't ever remember seeing a mac at a guvmint facility but i've never been to a lab...

Dennis Quaid is using a mac on cold creek manor. Parts of that film were shot in the town i live in too. :) That small town where there is a scene with one of the main characters(i forget his name) cop and her sister is shot in front of the local hardware store where i live.
