i'm impressed.
gizmodo is impressed too.
multi-touch, keyboard, amazing fluid web os with small footprint.
as for the design, is ergonomic: it got mms and you don't have to carry a candy bar in your ear.

excelent.

I haven't watched the videos all the way through yet, so I can't comment on the UI. However, that thing looks pretty ugly. It looks like it's a toy phone for kids or something. I'm going to watch the videos now though, so I'll see if the UI is better.

A lot of phones put the iPhone to shame...on paper, that is.

I think the Pre looks really good too, but guessing if it's going to be better than the iPhone is currently just that: a wild guess.

The UI looks so delayed and slow. Hopefully they fix that.

iPhone 3.0 is right around the corner with a quad-core processor. Massive number of applications, gigantic user base already, the only phone that works with the world's leading online media store, the iTunes Store. I don't think Apple has much to worry about.

right i forgot its multitasking. should you get a glimpse at the url before post?

ok, so YOUR looking for multitasking, so its better for you. At most I see this as a competitor to the iphone, but still dont see how it puts it to shame:confused:

I'll admit it's the best 'iPhone killer' phone I've seen, but I still don't see it hurting the iPhone. Apple has the brand, the iTunes store with huge amounts of downloadable content for your iPhone, huge amount of applications and games, 16GB model (with possible 32GB soon), and firmware 3.0 can't be far away.

The Pre does look nice, don't get me wrong, but so did the G1...

I think you have a point here, sure it may lose a few sales for the iphone, but its deffinatly not going to hurt apple as much as its going to kill sales of EVERYONE ELSE.

It looks exactly THE SAME speed as the iPhone. What is wrong with this board? We have to invent things to argue about now??

I watched the 3rd and 4th videos. Every time they scrolled the website, or swiped things, the actions happened on the screen about half a second or a second after he finished the motion. This has nothing to do with comparing it to the iPhone, it's just plain slow. It's also a fact, so unless you are blind there is nothing to argue about.

The Palm Pre did a good job at making a competitor and not a copy of the iPhone. Most companies think to beat out the iPhone they need to copy it, but make it better.

Palm made a totally different looking device with some recognizable features to the iPhone.

Just like the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP. Sony knew they couldn't compete directly with Nintendo's fan-base or gaming, so they made a totally different system with different features and a different fan-base.

The Palm Pre simply just opens up the selection for people who want the power of an iPhone but not an iPhone exactly. It's always good to have choice!

+1, finally a great COMPETITOR thats not just trying to be an iphone.

I find it hideous but I can see the appeal for some people.

Still, Palm has an incredible uphill climb to make any dent in the BlackBerry/iPhone market saturation and mindframe of the average consumer (people who don't read blogs like Giz, I mean).
