Adding info on what type of drive it is (SLC vs MLC) and what type of controller it uses (Jmicron vs anything else) might be helpful.

You could always post your Excel or Numbers file so people could add to it on the Mac Rumors Guide. It would be a very valuable community resource.
 
I think organizing it by capacity rather than the name would be useful as people are more likely looking for a specific capacity and then looking at the other information to decide.

But even this way this chart is extremely useful as I am looking for a SSD. Thanks for all the work you put into this.

one thing though, I'm pretty sure that the vertex controller chips are by
Indilinx, model - IDX110M00-FC "Barefoot"

also, once this thread gets longer, it would be easier if you just edited the first post with the new information.

Thanks for the chart emt1, appreciate the work. I've done some searching but for now holding off on a SSD till I see 512 gig SSD's at a reasonable price.

Apple uses samsung ssd drives. Sorry I can't provide a link since I'm on my phone.

I've not been able to find a high speed ExpressCard/34 SSD.

So - is it possible to purchase one of the 2.5" high performance SSD, put it a standard external SATA enclosure, and connect it through an ExpressCard/34 slot?

I want the larger HDD capacity in the MBP but the speed of SSD / SATA for HD video playback.

I thought Apple used Toshiba 256GB MLC SSD Drives (rated at 120MB/s read, 70MB/s write) that are no where near as fast as the Samsung 256GB SSD or OCZ Vertex. Here's the link. Apple only used Samsung SSD drives (so far) for their 128GB SSD Drives.
 
The new firmware update for Vertex 120/250gb increased the seq read/write speed to ~250MBps read and ~150-200MBps write depending on chipset. I believe it is ~220/150 for 30/60GB.
 
SDD Testing on my new MBP

Hi,

I am due to receive my 17" 2.66 MBP with 256GB SSD early this week. I've been reading all the comments on the Toshiba SSD drive I am likely to receive and wanted to be able to help you fill out this table (for my own interest too). Can you tell me how I can help you do this. ie. What software to run, setup conditions etc.

Although I am after the additional speed I decide on a SSD for data safety purposes above anything else - I have dropped many many laptops during my travels. I realize I still have to backup though.

PS. This is my first Mac (apart from usage of other peoples) so be gentle with me - although I am generally computer proficient. As an aside this switch is HUGE for me. :eek:
 
I just want to know where I can find and buy the Samsung drives listed in that list. I've looked all over but it appears they only come bundled with hardware, not as a standalone item...:mad::mad::mad::mad:
