It also might not be a bad idea to include random 4K read/write speeds too, since for most people that's far, far more important than large sequential transfer speeds. Otherwise, folks might think the Vertex provides the same real-world performance that the Intel X-25E does...

Where might I find that info for recently updated or released SSDs?

I've been reading about the intel drives with the latest firmware but am still not convinced which is better.

Taking money out of the equation which will be faster at providing the following:

startup time
shutdown time
opening of applications
-not too concerned about write times, b/c if I write something its saving a word or excel doc.

The intel 160gb with the latest firmware or the OCZ Vertex 120gb

From what I've read it looks really close, your thoughts?

Intel is the best drive for a boot drive, if cost is in your equation the vertex is better value/performance imo

The Intel drive is the best [period].

Until someone comes out with a better one there is no arguing that ;)

But the Vertex is better value.

Agreed. Intel IMO is falling behind, they haven't updated their line and haven't even brought the price tag down a bit.

Hope they keep their edge.

What? I thought they just brought the price down and updated their drives with new firmware...which is basically what OCZ is/will do for the next few months?

Only really seeing OCZ SSD's here Australia at the moment in large availability. Really want to pick up a zippy SSD before the end of the year preferably when i upgrade to snow leapard. Need these prices to keep dropping bad

emt1 - the price of the 250gb vertex is now $949 at newegg...just a suggestion to possibly update the chart?

if you dont have many apps installed on your comp, then a clean install would better.

Thanks for the chart, its very useful!

Just wondering though, from looking at the chart, seems SSD from Corsair and Samsung has some pretty good performances too and they aren't too expensive in comparison.. Why nobody is mentioning about them or recommending on buying those? Are the spec / performance numbers not the full picture? I know Intel has been the fastest all around, but the chart saids otherwise and they are still too pricey for the amount of storage they provide...

Does anyone know which one of these work with bootcamp? I have read Intel has issue with that right now. How about the other drives? Also, is OCZ really the second best below Intel? Their price is decent, but as I said the other brands doesn't seem too shabby.

Thanks!

OP:

If you want to include random 4K performance, you'll have to seek out the benchmarks on Anandtech or somewhere else; you might want to link to the source if you do post them. This is a pretty important piece of data, since it's one of the few statistics that really matter for most people's day-to-day computing.
