I can't overclock my card at all. I had my settings set to 650/850 and it crashed as soon as I started playing starcraft II. Those are relitavly low clocks compared to you guys. What am I doing wrong?

Don't use ATT's Flash OSD, did some testing today. It is detrimental to FPS. Using a still scene in Dead Space 2, 70fps without, 65fps with FlashOSD on. Probably the way it renders, better off using the default FPS OSD.

Make a hotkey in ATT to bind show/hide FPS instead of OSD.

Thank you Necriss for your precise testing activity
By the way, I am quite impressed of my MBP, at 750-900@0,955V I can achieve more that 11k in 3dmark06, and my temperature never reach 84 C as peak and they are stable around 80 C. Fan activity without any mod around 80-85%

I have already pre-ordered and pre-downloaded the Witcher 2, I will keep you posted on the results

Played a little Witcher 2, definitely need driver updates for this game. Little difference in fps between high and low settings. Screenshots below on medium 1680x1050, 20-40fps, lag is quite noticeable in fights where it dips to 20-25.

I have similar result, with the same setting I sit around an average of 25 fps, min 20 top 35 ( at 750/900). Can you tell me your procedure to update driver? I don't want to mess them. A lot of people seem stuck at the same driver version 8.812 even if the ccc updated.
P.S. I am still using the bootcamp version

I'm playing on my native 1440 by 900 resolution with high details.
OC'ed to 780/950 ish and steady at 30fps +.

I've been extremely happy with the 11.2 drivers and 800/900 undervolt. I've tried upgrading drivers before and none would update properly, even the mobility modded ones. But either way brink and witcher 2 run well on 11.2 and I'd say ppl report it runs better on that than 11.5a etc.

How far can you overclock on the stock 1v voltage?

I am at 820/1000 stable. I am half tempted to see how much extra I can push it with 1.05v but to be fair, everything I have been playing runs great at 1980x1200.

wow? stable ?! what do you play ? i tried Crysis 2

i get about 730/940 stable. if 740/940 - after 30 min or more - depends on the action i get grey screen with lines. i close the lid, let it go to sleep, then wake up and close the crashed Crysis 2.

did you do any mods to your laptop ? what do you use for OC ? MSI tools or this guide ?

make sure windows power profile is set to performance, not powersaver or anything else, also check volts as you may need to bump them up a bit. 0.855v should go all the way up to 800 core for most.

good tips. i raised the voltage: 1.02. 780/950 seems stable. OS set to performance. 800/950 still crashes after a while of Crysis 2. but this time differently. i've external display, the display goes blank, entering power saving mode, but i still hear the sound of the game. have to force-shut down. it won't go to sleep in this state.

any more advice on fine tuning this ? stable 800/950 is the goal

is there benefit on running higher than 900 for memory? Been at 900 but seeing people running 950.. just curious if that does anything.

went ahead and tried to answer my own question.

3dmark11 .955v 800/900 got P1696
3dmark11 .955v 800/950 got P1717

so ~20 points in 3dmark11 not sure what that equates to in gaming FPS though

i struggle at 730/950 with MSI stock voltage. they i tried the ATI tray tools and with raised voltage 1.02 i was able to get stable (so far) 780/950 in Crysis 2.
amazes me that you can get that with lower voltage. what's wrong with mine ?

I run mine at 1000, compared with 900 it is 3-4 fps higher in crysis 2, 1 fps in dead space 2. So the improvements depend on how a game utilizes the graphics memory.

and joecool99 you can definitely go above 800 core with 1.05v but I don't recommend this for the long term.

Well I've only played Crysis 2 at .955v with 800/900 but haven't tried .955v 800/950 with Crysis2, although it was stable doing 3Dmark06/3dmark11

i tried today, i just cannot get anything stable if i go over 780/950. tried same voltage as you 800/900 and it crashes almost instantly in Crysis 2 into black screen with stripes :(

did you reapply the thermal paste or are you guys just lucky with better batch ?

Mine seems to stable at 880/1000 however I am not 100% sure but it seems whether its the voltage or heat but after some time playing my graphics card is being shut off.

EDIT: Seems its not my card having a problem but Crysis 2 Freezing ... Hope it isn't this 1.8 Patch

Sorry Joe, I didnt notice your question. Everyone else seems to have answered it so I will just say I am now running 800/1000 at 0.955v for demanding games (BFBC2, Shogun2, SC2 and COD BO) and I run 600/800 at 0.855v for older games for cooler temps (DOW2, COH, SupComm2 etc)

You have to understand that every chip is different and some overclock better than others.

Also I lock my cpu to 2.2ghz and set my fans at 4200rpm so the laptop remains cool

@ninja when you say lock it at 2.2 do you mean you've disabled turbo boost?

On a side note, I had to get my logic board replaced because I overheated my CPU/GPU from overclock... haha just playing. My SD card reader was never working since I got it and I finally decided to take it in, picking it up later tonight as it's ready. (Thermal paste didn't void warranty- what they don't know what hurt you hehe)

Anyway I'm hoping I'll be able to OC at .955 800/900 like I have been since I've been really happy with that. And hoping the heat won't be bad or else I'll have to redo thermal paste again.. blah!

Yep, I find that the extra wattage from TB really heats up the mbp and I have to set the fans at max to keep it cool. With TB disabled and my card at 600/800 @ .85v I can run my fans at 3600rpm and it remains cool to the touch ( I use this for sofa gaming) and with the card at 800/1000 @ .95v I have to set the fans at 4600 to keep it cool. Also this is on the stock paste

How you turn off the turbo boost?
