4k gameplay is fine depending on GPU. I have a 6900XT and can game at 4k just not at high frame rates or upscaling.
If you throw a RTX card 5070-5090 4k shouldn't be an issue at all.

Hopefully youre right about this. I'm more inclined to agree with @SDAVE long term, but short term if your workloads are GPU bound, it could still be useful for several years.

The one I have isn't sold anymore; but it is nice for a build out case. Personally the ones they have now look worse than what I have.

You’ll find a hundred or more PC cases that are more ergonomic and much cheaper. Apple has made a few, and it’s being treated as some sort of great invention. But it’s just one of many cases. 😃

Mac Pro especially 2019 is an amazing feat in engineering. I used to build custom PCs on and off, nothing beats this case.
They are not as nicely done inside or out as the 2019 Mac Pro, and they are worse to work on too. 2019 Mac Pro is easy.
Do you own 7,1 Mac Pros? Have you worked on them?

2019 MP chassis is incredible from an engineering standpoint. The fact that additional power is catered to (now non-standard) MPX module is super strong. The inside is clean, RAM module location, airflow, are fantastic. It's overengineered, but many PC manufacturers can learn a thing or two from it.
Yes it doesn't have DVD drives, but it's slightly more compact than the 5,1 Mac Pro. And has more space inside for multiple GPUs, the afterburner card, other cards, extra large capacity storage, has 12 ram slots, it runs quietly all the time. The fans on my two never crank up, the case cooling is impressive.
It is really well designed.

Yeah, nah. No one uses that. You can plug a USB drive if you need it.
7,1 chassis is > 5,1 by by miles
And it also has more PCIe slots, more AUX power available, and better cooling.
I've run both GPU and CPU tests where both are maxed out in benching and the fans are barely loud. It's a shame Apple got rid of it.
I know the lynch mob will be after me for saying it, but my old dual CPU 5,1 was always a fairly noisy running thing. It just had a constant annoying fan noise, worse in warmer conditions. The 7,1 case has a much higher quality impression as well.
People who've seen mine who primarily use PCs can't believe how heavy the case cover is and how securely it fits. When they see where the RAM is, where the main storage is also and the PSU they are surprised.
It's very hard to find a PC with that level of attention to detail.

Agreed, I had the 4,1 then 5,1 for many years when they first came out even from the factory they were fairly noisy. Apple got better with cooling mid 2010s.
I genuinely do not want to build a PC, even a small SFFPC just for gaming (i rarely do it) so I may just keep the Mac Pro as a Windows machine once I get the M5 Mac Studio (Max or Ultra). I just need a decent KVM setup so I can switch between them easily on my dual Studio Displays and Magic Keyboard (might have to run them via wire) + Logitech 502 mouse (USB, so it's easy). I tend to keep my desktop simple, and not overcomplicate things since I switch between workstations a lot (sometimes I have to freelance so I don't have a chance to customize things fully).

I feel your pain. Basically the reason I do not have Mac displays; too hard for multiple kits hooked up and they cost a mint compared to others.

There's some decent solutions out there, but I haven't personally tried it.
I also thought about connecting a capture card to a Mac Studio and running the Mac Pro through it for Video + Audio so I don't have to use a KVM switch, but then what do I do with the mouse and keyboard and lag? There's also Parsec and on local network there shouldn't be much lag. I kind of want to try it with a laptop and Mac Pro see what happens. Would be nice to have a "clean solution".

Have been wondering about doing some remote gaming. Going to pick up a 10Gig switch when I get a 2nd MP 2019 to Proxmox for gaming. Not so much for my individual gaming, but if I'm hosting a LAN party or such.

1GbE should be ok for gaming if its local.
I was testing Parsec for some other stuff (remote login) and its actually pretty smooth especially on local network. It can run at H265 so much lower bitrates and better quality. Going to see if gaming is feasible.

Well I would not call myself a "expert" PC builder, so the inside isn't all that pretty; but the case itself is easy to open and work in.
It still has the typical back side cable routing mess on almost all PC cases. Maybe this weekend I can pull it out and take inside shots.

Fair enough. I'm hellbent on gaming on a 7,1 - but looks like the path of least resistance is to just buy a 2nd one and proxmox it. KVM switch.
I’ve seen worse 7,1 machines! 😉 They are effective at collecting dust.
It’s interesting to do it. But nowadays it’s just too expensive. Better just forget about gaming completely.
If I’m honest, the only “game” I regularly use is Zwift, but I avoid the gamified parts of it. I don’t touch anything else now.
We have to do our bit to conserve RAM, GPUs and storage for those all important AI operations…. (rolls eyes)
