Is it just me or is it a bit strange that the only real feature of the dual camera is the zoom feature (and the upcoming "portrait" option)? It seems like they should be advertising that they are using both cameras in every shot in order to increase the image quality. Surely the data from the tele could be used to further increase the quality of a wide angle shot (or the other way around).

Seems like the quality is great and I'm looking forward to the new optics, but was expecting a little bit more in terms of usefulness with day to day usage. Is the portrait mode only going to work with faces? If they opened that up for any static objects (maybe with a manual selection mode) that would be great.

I guess I just wanted a bit more from the dual setup, but I'm still excited for it. Hopefully the software side of things can implement more features in the future.

Be patient, this is all new in the realm of apple and as slick as the cameras are in competing brands of phones, the biggest innovators in terms of 3rd party offerings tend to gravitate to the iPhone ethos the most and the fastest.

In addition to being a full time professional advertising, editorial and fine art photographer for the past 30 years, I am now adjunct faculty at a very prestigeous photo program. We had our monthly meeting last night and talked a lot about what is possible with this new multi-camera system in the iPhone 7+. Let's just say this is just the beginning my friend.

The 1.8 aperture alone will actually help a good amount. Combine that with OIS (new to the 7 non plus) and you already have a sizable increase in image quality. I'm just hoping the dual cam setup allows for more creative and impactful changes on the day to day use of the camera.

Only in the aspect more light is delivered to the sensor.

The fact is, when you zoom in on the pictures no matter how much light is available, it is a pixelated mess.
[doublepost=1473489230][/doublepost]This is just an example of a pic I took with my S7 Edge. I'm not sure how it transfers to MR, but when I zoom in even on my iMac, there is nowhere near the pixelation effect of my 6sPlus.

was it taken before the samsung exploded?

That's the Note 7 battery.

All jokes aside, Apple is playing catch up with Samsung features these days and it's pretty sad. I'm hoping my 7Plus keeps me away from my S7 Edge more than a few weeks.
Um what features you mean?

OLED screen, superior camera, edge to edge usable phone, being able to put app icons where the F i want them on my screens, widgets on screens, always on clock so I don't have to activate my phone to see what time it is, send text messages at a specified time natively, being able to put a single app's icon in multiple screens and folders, waterproofed before and better than iPhone 7, heart rate/O2 sensor...

That's all.....
[doublepost=1473496508][/doublepost]And omg. A simple multi colored LED alert light so I don't have to activate my phone to see if there are any calls, messages, emails.

OLED is not so good, camera is better on iPhone 7 (especially plus); the rest are mainly Android things, and rest have been implemented.

Yeah and the zoom is not even dual it just uses the other camera i think. It doesnt seem like they are using both cameras in the same shot just one or the other. Hoping that those will come in SW updates like the bokeh and that is just the start. Or maybe better- in app purchases everytime you take a picture

You're suppressing rage and living in denial.

Please post a full sized pic from your 6s Plus and compare it to the lobster I cooked a few posts above.

Why is Apple going to OLED if it's not so Good? Please respond intelligently. I should clarify it is AMOLED on the Samsung.

And lastly...duhhhhhhhh. I said the features on the Samsung, which does run android, are what Apple is catching up to. So to say 'the rest are mainly Android things', was pretty much summizing exactly what I said.
[doublepost=1473498540][/doublepost]And by the way, which features I described have been 'implemented' into iPhone 7. For clarity.

When they were saying outloud in the keynote what was 'new', I looked at my iPhone 6s Plus and thought, isn't that what they said I had in this one? .. and then the new thing was the zoom.

Maybe I just have to really take a minute and write down the specs of both, but it seems to be basically the 6sPlus camera, and then the zoom next to it?

I was going to respond to his post..but after seeing his signature, I realized it'll be pointless. The koolaid is in full affect!!

The Apple page describes how both lenses would be used for bokeh. So I think TC or PS said october'ish?

I used to be a little biased early on, but let's face it. Each phone and company has their strengths and weakness, comparatively.

Apple is definitely more design and ecosystem strong. Samsung is definitely more hardware and feature strong.

Agreed, which is why I use both ;)

No brand fanboyism here!

We don't know if the camera is better on the 7/7+ as there are no reviews and no-one has used it in the wild. I hope it is though.
