American exceptionalism- at it's finest. :D

7-Eleven selling mashed potatoes and chicken gravy from Slurpee machines

The 7-Eleven convenience store chain is now featuring a Slurpee-type machine that dispenses mashed potatoes and gravy.

The Huffington Post on Monday confirmed that the Maggi mashed potato vending machines were beginning to show up in stores in the U.S.

For a dollar, you can get a generous helping of mashed potatoes. And then you can wash it down with a Big Gulp for only a dollar more.

The process is simple: Place the cup under the nozzle, press the “Mashed Potatoes” button and wait for your potatoes to be dispensed. Next, press the optional “Chicken Gravy” and wait two seconds for your gravy.

“But who needs the mashed potato part?” Gizomodo wondered. “If 7-11 wanted a real hit on their hands, they’d just let customers add chicken gravy to any foodstuffs in the store.”

The machine also features a “BBQ Mashed Potatoes” button, whatever that is.

As a Brit and therefore an expert on gravy - I'd be tempted to try this.

711 just opened (or, bought and remodeled) the local gas station. Coffee's not bad, but I avoid it if at all possible.

Serving gravy from a Slurpee machine is just.... disgusting.

As an American connoisseur, call me when they have a Meatloaf Button. Otherwise you're no better than an exotic dancer, or decaffeinated coffee.

And I'd think you would be sorely disappointed. This would be standard american gravy powder mixed with water not drippings from a good roast thickened. Being 7-eleven it will likely be cheap powder.

Something tells me that machine is not going to get thoroughly cleaned very often...

That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't think I'd trust that the 7-Eleven clerk was taking the time and effort to completely sterilize this thing. Even once a month or year.

Those machines need to be properly taken apart and cleaned on a regular basis. It could get really ugly really quick if they don't keep up with a cleaning schedule.

Plus that's just disgusting. I think they sell pre made mashed potatoes at walmart. Why not just buy some and heat them up?

Or live on the wild side and buy some potatoes, boil them, mash them up, add milk, butter, spices, and bam u got some nice mashed potatoes. One of the easiest things to make. And if you have no time for all that, go to subway.

I knew I should not of opened this post after eating lunch. It took great will power not to see my lunch again

I LOVE mashed potatoes but have no skill to make my own so I'd probably do this.

I doubt they'd taste like Grandmas though :p

Mashed potatoes really require very little skill...peel, cut and boil, mash with some butter and milk. Done.
