Changing the size refreshes and captures new sales, but without much needed physical enhancements as that noted in a couple posts above, I'm waiting.

The other option might be to use the iPhone 4 resolution of 960x640, which is about 10% smaller than 1024x768. Developers are already creating native artwork for that resolution as well.

Not a very good option, since you'd end up with a lot of "blown up" iphone apps with giant buttons instead of apps that take advantage of the bigger screen size.

I was thinking about buying an ipad next week, but now I'm not sure if I should wait for the 7" one. Any ideas?

It's getting difficult to be an Apple fan, is not it? So many devices. People used to be able to afford to buy all Apple gadgets (whether they needed them or not). It might become too costly of a hobby soon :) Apple is in danger of loosing its fans.

Now if only Apple could figure out how to "loose" its haters...

7" makes no sense it still is way too large to be in your pocket so you will have to lug it around anyway why not get the 10" for extra real estate.

A 5" ipod touch or a newer version where the screen covers the entire front makes more sense because more visual real estate and still pocketable.

7" will be far lighter than 10", and have a far higher pixel density, with little impact on usability for most people. It might actually be light enough to hold comfortably with one hand when reading, without being small enough to require iPhone instead of iPad-style interfaces.

That's actually a useful option for the Large Print book type consumer. Better than with the iPad, because native iPhone 4 Retina tuned graphics at a more typical DPI will still have a lot less added blur than the iPad's 2X zoom.

In addition to devs eventually adding UI's to better use that DPI/size combination of course...

Apple meticulously decided on the 9.7" screen. They do not make these decisions haphazardly then change their mind six months later.

7" is nice, still not pocketable and not optimally sized for web browsing like the 9.7" version. But whatever screen sizes they offer, I wish Apple would consider these as default features :

-Drag n Drop over WiFi. For such a portable device marketed for mobility and convenience, iPad is still lacking in this area. I long for the day where I could right-click/block-select a file/s on my iMac and send them straight to iPad without reaching for that cable.

-SD card slot & mini USB port. Again iPad is beautifully designed & crafted but lack the most basic & universal functions like these. I could see me using iPad as a large screen instant preview of the photographs I took while on vacation.

-If Apple decides to integrate a front-facing camera in the future iPad, it'd be nice if they could place it on the long side (landscape) of the iPad. You want to view your video feed in a landscape format to utilize the whole screen area, not portrait.

-They should offer those scratch-proof military-grade LCD protectors as option already.

Right. That is why the only MacBook is 15". Oh, wait...

Doesn't apply. Brings up a good point though. What category DOES the iPad fit into? iPod Touch, Macbook Air?

Macbook Pros are different because they are prosumer production machines capable of operating on their own.

iPads require connection to a computer so screen size isn't as critical because you already own a display of your preference.

Furthermore, Macbook Pro 15/17" are released at the same time indicating that Apple knew both would be demanded by the market.

Apple will never offer a mini USB or SD card slot. They've worked too hard to lock down their devices and create proprietary connectors like the 30 pin for the iPhone / iPod / iPad devices.

It's all about capturing the customers money. Selling them content and giving them little in the way of choices.

Agreed 5" would be the perfect combination of size and portability its a shame that its unlikely that it will ever happen:(. I currently own the 2nd gen ipod touch and as i do alot of reading i want something bigger but not as big as the 9.7 inch ipad so i would be happy for apple to introduce a 7" version of the ipad.

7" iPad mini

i think that will be hit; but tough part is to bring the price down to $199 to $299 range and also you have to think about iPod touch price range.

take a look at the Kindle 6" ; i think it is nice.

right now 6 models of iPad is too many; apple may be (not wanting to screw up the current iPad owners) just waiting for right time; let the compoent prices come down, 7" IPS display also going to cost them money; i think LG should have relaized whether they are making profits or not (with so many IPS display orders from APPLE). for cost take a look at the new samsung 7" Tab, it is expensive with 7" display.

there will be consolidation in iPod touch, iPad and the price points then we have the iPad mini; when we take a look at the iPod nano price and functionality, there is some plans are going on with iPod and iPad line up.

we might see these happen in March, well after the holidays.

A 7" iPad is ideal.

I will buy one upon release and I bet Apple will sell loads of them. Pricing has never been an issue for Apple. No matter how it's priced, they will be a hot item.

Be Happy
