I just noticed this, but then refreshed and it's normal now. Probably something wonky with loading the CSS file.

Slashdot put a link to MacRumors today.
That usually generates enough traffic to destroy mortal sites. MR looks like it took the beating with only a loss of the CSS.
That's impressive, I'd like to see what the bandwidth bill looks like the day before, the day of, and the day after a slashdotting.
I might be crazy, but I seems to recall a job posting months ago here for someone to make the website more modern / redesign. Perhaps they are doing some type of a switch over for an upcoming launch. Would make sense, given WWDC will bring massive traffic to this site.
