Same issue - any resolution?

Hi Beret,

I'm having EXACTLY the same issue. New 750GB Scorpio black drive after my internal Seagate 500GB died on me.

At first my MBP wouldn't even recognise it, so I mounted it in an external with my other mac which recognised it and let me format it as mac os journaled, with GUID of course.

Popped it back into the MPB, the installation process sees the drive but it is greyed out while it says 'examining disk', and trying to access in disk utility causes the system to hang indefinitely. I installed my 250GB Scorpio blue and the MBP recognizes it with no issues whatsoever.

It's all avery strange, at first I though it may have been the macbook but its recognising other drives, and the 750GB black is being recognized without a hitch when mounted to other computers as an external. It just wont work INSODE MY MACBOOK!!

Did your trip to the apple guys resolve your issue? Can you shed some light? What did you end up doing?

Thanks so much.

EDIT

I took a gamble and bought a new flex HDD to mother-board cable - and it solved my issues. MBP now recognising all drives - I'm typing on it as we speak!

Hope this helps!

Same problem!

Im having the exact same problem and its very frustrating. did you get any answers on this except for changing the cable which connects the Hard Drive, something im not so keen on...

This is good info to know. I have a WD Scorpio Black 750 waiting for me at home.

Any updates to this? It appears to be 2010 models and newer running into this?

I plan on ordering the 17" Macbook Pro from Amazon in the next few days because I have over $600.00 in credits/promotions to use. I planned on getting the WD Scorpio Black 750GB at the same time and updating the drive and memory first thing. Now this gives me pause on ordering this drive. I've used WD drives in my desktop PC's for years so WD was my first choice.

Any other suggestions or thoughts? This will be my first Mac so I'm sure to be confused anyway :)

Jim

I just put a 500GB Scorpio Black into a brand new MBP and worked just like every other HD swap I've done in MBP's in the past!

Probably wont be much help but I have 2 750gb wd scorpio black drives running fine in my 17" 2.2ghz 2011 mbp and I have not yet disabled the sms yet. but I have had the mbp freeze on me and had to force it to shut down after a small jolt, could be the sms conflict?

The only drive I've had problems with is the crucial C300 ssd which would only work as a boot drive in the optibay or externally but no dice getting it to work in the main hd bay!

After a little more digging I found the conflicts and kernel panics were from my Crucial aftermarket ram. I have GSkill now and they work a treat.

And the Scorpio is back in action!

Same issue- mid 2008 MBP

I have almost the same problem with my WD scorpio black 750 in my mid 2008 MBP... Physical install went fine, ribbon cable fine, connection fine. It reads the hard drive when i boot from install DVD, and i can reformat in Disk Utility, and partition which I have done many, many times.. when I choose to install onto it, it will sit for hours and the loading bar get half way while time remaining still says 30 minutes remaining?? Wont install onto the hard drive.. help please :(
