The Pixel XL 2 is using an LG display. Apple has a contract with Samsung and it's been rumored after the contract ends, they were are using LG as a manufacturer for future OLED displays.

Keep in mind rumors are not facts. There was a rumor the iPhone was going to use a different wireless technology than Qi and look how that turned out. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/01/04/energous-wireless-charging-2017/

Crazy amount of these 'justification pieces' by the media and regular folks alike. This is because the X was delayed while the 8 was readily available. Buying the 8 is fine if you want it, but getting and 8 when you really want a X and going out of your way to justify your own choice is horse crap.

I wish there was a system where if you created a justification, you're blocked from preorder on 10.27

You seriously misunderstood what I wrote.

Curious as to why you are on an iPhone forum when you clearly don't like them?
I still love Apple just frustrated by them drip feeding me technological advances and walling off premium features into the Plus version of their Phone. Steve would never had done this, but i understand why current Apple is in this situation. Plus the Competition has really raised there game lately :)

Not if the rumours of a price drop next year are true. Resale value will drop quicker than your jaw. If they turn out to be true.

I’ve been a plus user for over 3 years now and not worried about losing a little real estate.

The other day I was also just thinking how much more I use my phone in portrait over landscape.

Taking photos and watching some YouTube videos is the only time my iPhone is in landscape.

The other 95% of the time it’s in portrait which is where the X is bigger technically.

Same here. Browsing the internet in landscape is awful. Come to think of it, apps that allow for landscape arent pleasing to use
In landscape (except for video and photos)

I'm still torn over getting an 8 plus which would be a size upgrade for me over my 6 versus going for the X. I like the size ratio of the 8 plus screen at around 16:9. I may wind up liking the X more but I want to see some real world use of the face recognition first. I also want to see some real world feedback on the lack of a home button on the X. The price difference doesn't matter much to me. It's good to have this first world problem.

Just what those who are trying to justify the 8 over the x want to hear. A new design and a new screen is worth it for a little less screen
I disagree, I was fully on board with waiting it out but once I learned the size was smaller I bailed on the idea right away. I get that bigger is not necessarily better but it matters when you take away real estate and functionality that users already have.

Honest question. This 1% difference in screen area is enough for you to not consider the X?

That’s your choice and that’s fine but I certainly wouldn’t spend huge money on a phone that looks like my 7 plus again. It’s either new design or stick with what I have

But hey we all have different needs and Wants. The beauty of choice.

There’s one thing that i will give credit on in regards to iphone 8 series. It’s the lcd screen. Apparently there has been reports that pixel 2/xl have burin-in due to p-oled screen. I don’t know how iphone x will do. It may not burn in with samsung screen so...it has yet to be tested.

The Pixel 2/XL POLED Display was made by LG, which as I have read is having the same issue with their LG V30's (I think, I am not well versed in LG phones - whatever their latest flagship phone is.) Samsung OLED displays are much better and are way less susceptible to burn in than there LG counterparts.

I will try and find the article I was reading and post it to you so you can take a look.

Also, I thought Apple put some proprietary tech in their OLED screens to specifically help stop burn in?

My point was to not get too excited about rumors. Sorry you missed it.

Just a reminder. We are talking about the 8 Plus, not 8. The original iPhone 8, I strongly agree with your points but 8 Plus? It has everything the X has bar OLED and improved face camera. The 8 Plus has a bigger screen to make up for it though.

Face ID "better" than Touch ID is subjective. For example, I instead got an 8+ simply because it has Touch ID. I'm not ready for Face ID.

Also the iPhone X has OIS on both rear cameras, and the telephoto lens has a better f/2.4 aperture.

I didn't. It's just you didn't read my post thoroughly enough the first time when I clearly stated "it's been rumored." Not sure how you can conjure someone getting 'excited' over the internet based through text.

For reference, here is the post that you quoted that you missread and you're using hyperbole over a Post that doesn't indicate that at all.

Honest question. This 1% difference in screen area is enough for you to not consider the X?
It's more than just the 1% though, right? It's that lack of landscape mode features and the fact that you really can't use the notch portion of the phone as a real viewable area. For me, the question is whether FaceID and the OLED screen enough to move me and at this point it's not but I'm definitely still interested and will see how it plays out for a while first.

I bought the 8 Plus over the X after much careful consideration. The main factors for me to reach that conclusion were;

1) I don’t like the notch on the X
2) I don’t want a narrower screen than the Plus
3) Not yet convinced about Face ID

I am very happy with my new 8 Plus.

I will watch reviews of the X once out in the wild with great interest. May get a Plus version if Apple adds next year (particularly if they include software option to hide that eyesore of a notch)

I couldn’t have said it better.
Also got a 8+ and I’m very happy with my choice.

It’s not 1%, it’s a bit more than 20% and this is without considering the notch and the rounded corners of the screen.

I have heard it's a small difference, according to some math it's apparently larger. See below from someone else who worked it out through Apple's specs. Really though, I don't care if it's bigger or smaller. In the end, it's just a very small difference. Unless you use the landscape features a ton, the X screen will be similar to the Plus. Definitely not enough of a difference to negate the other features. At least for me. I was more so curious.

Screen Area Calculations

X
135.75mm x 63.12mm (Screen without cut out
8568.54 mm sq
34 x 4.99 (Area of cut out)
169.66 mm sq
8399 mm sq (Actual screen area)
13.02 Square Inches

8 Plus
121.54mm x 68.36mm
8308.5 mm sq
12.88 Square Inches

8
104.05mm x 58.5mm
6087 mm Sq
9.44 Square Inches

This makes the screen area of the X 1.09% larger than the 8 Plus and 37.92 % Large than the 8.

Totally fair, everyone is entitled to their own opinion on the subject. I don't use the dual pane landscape view ever so I may be in the minority here, but I feel the features of the X outweigh the small screen size difference. As I have said though, you really can't go wrong either way. Both are great devices, was just curious to what was holding you back. The Plus size next year will be better for you then. I'll consider it as well.

I always buy the latest and greatest....part of me feels like going to be annoyed with no home button. But when I first got the 6+ my hand was cramped like crazy getting used to it. After that I’ve owned the 6s+ and 7+ so I’m sure I’ll be annoyed at first with the X but like the plus I’ll get used to it.

I’m embarrassed for you. Again, you missed the point.

The reason is that the iPhone's newest tech is best experienced on the X rather than the 8:

wireless charging
dual cameras with OIS on both
256GB storage
3GB ram
A11 Bionic

FaceID
Greatly reduced bezel's

Larger screen
OLED Samsung screen

I've bolded what my 8 Plus has.

I've italicized the differences... which I could give a rats about. A professional photographer isn't buying a phone for a camera... Face ID is unproven... bezels still win over a notch for aesthetics at a minimum... and the 8 Plus doesn't have to worry about screen burn in.

Your welcome.

P.S.

I am by no means saying one phone is better than the other because at the end of the day nobody cares what phone someone else has... but I still wanted to point out the 8 Plus shares a lot of the main components of the "flagship" X... minus a lot of garbage... which include animojis.

6S+ was best iPhone ever for me.
8+ is faster with a better camera.
No desire for an elongated non+..even with OLED.
