Seems this is a love it or hate it phone lol

Do you like large phones with large screens? Get the XS Max

If you are skeptical maybe put your sim in one at the store if they can allow you and compare how it is with your current iPhone.

For me I have had no signal issues and have enjoyed good coverage even in a house that has known dead spots for all phones, my XS Max has done a good job of keeping a signal as long as it could in a dead spot.

If you are lot comfortable with what you are reading then rather wait for the XI Max.

I simply love large displays. The XSM was a no brainer for me. I thought the plus models were as big as apple would go and am literally ecstatic to have a 6.5” oled display on an iPhone. Given that display comes in body dimensions almost identical to previous plus models is a welcome bonus. Nothing has grown other than the display itself.

If you weren’t a fan of plus models before then Xsm most likely isn’t for you. I, however am a fan.

Love the plus models. Had the 6s plus and now the 8 plus. If the next gen loses 3D Touch than I’ll most likely go xs max. 3D Touch in games like modern combat and pubg mobile, grid Autosport, to name a few, is an amazing experience

In my opinion, the vast majority of people who claim the 8+ is superior to the Max do so in order to try and make themselves believe they aren’t missing out. The Max is the best large iPhone ever made. If someone resists the Max due to its price, I get it. Avoiding it due to the notch or Face ID is really shorting yourself of a superior phone. I miss mine badly, but the pwm happened to affect me too strongly to keep it. Nothing about my 8+ is better except for how cheap it would be to replace it today.
I’m an 8+ owner and I’d never suggest it’s better than the Max but I don’t believe I’m missing out. I’d use it for the same things I use my 8+ for and the 6S before it. It’s an iPhone and for me and the interface is enough of the same that I’m not worrying about having the latest and greatest. Cost is the major driving factor as to why very few of my associates are opting for XS series iPhones. If that’s the course for the best iPhone going forward, then the best will never be good enough.

And about the price, it all depends if the person can afford it or not. For some people, it's not an issue.
I don’t quite agree with that. I can afford it, I just take issue with it and have altered my buying habits to buy older models. Most people I know could afford the XS Max if they really wanted it, my workplace is full of iPhones but the phones of choice are iPhone 8’s and XR’s. I suppose some view phones purely as a necessity rather than a demonstration of how keen they are on tech or how much it costs.

Indeed.

I actually find it hilarious how people always assume someone doesn’t own something because they cannot afford it it’s a stupid assumption to make, unless you have every detail of that persons financial state, you do not know what they can or cannot do.

I know many people who could easily walk into an Apple Store and buy a iPhone XS Max cash and not even feel it in their bank account, but many of them are not interested and would rather put their money in other hobbies and investments.

At a company I once worked in, one of the directors loved his Nokia E90, the guy owned a game farm and countless houses across the globe and was forever traveling and yet in 2015 he was still using a Nokia E90 simply due to the fact that he loved its build and it’s keyboard , he saw no reason to switch.

At this point in tech, you can get a mid end device that has 95% of the stuff a flagship has, and if you do not need the extra 5%, why pay extra?
Google Pixel 3a is a good example of this.

I went from a fantastic 6S Plus to an 8 just because I found the 8 Plus to heavy and unbalanced in my hand. However I found the screen too narrow (especially when typing), although happy with the height. I bought the Max on release day and love the size, although I would have preferred a little smaller - think chop of chin & forehead from the Plus leaving a beautiful 16:9 screen and a slightly smaller phone.

Reception is fine on my Max, even if fewer bars show on screen I don’t get dropped calls or anything and internet speed is OK. I do prefer LCD screens and would probably have gone for the XR if it had been released at the same time, and with this years rumoured lavender colour option, but won’t be upgrading for a few more years.

Brilliant post. Completely agree with that. In fact I think people who think buying a phone describes someone’s financial status are the one with below average income.

I agree. Well said, both.

I agree as well, especially in this day and age where financing options are in abundance. You don’t necessarily have to afford the “entirety” of the phone per se

Carriers where I live have tried to make the XS series more affordable by offering 3 year contracts. It’s tempting some people of course but the hard sell is when the XS is alongside the XR which is significantly cheaper again. To the regular consumer it has to be asked, what does the XS offer that the XR doesn’t? You tell people a phone has stainless steel edges and an OLED screen and it’s often greeted with shrugged shoulders in my experience. I don’t know anybody who bases their phone choice purely in camera capabilities either, not that you’ll get a bad camera on an iPhone anyway.

I think in this day and age smartphones are much the same in what they offer. There are varying degrees or slightly better features sure, but it’s a buyers market. You have to be very enthusiastic about particular tech or conscious of the need for having the latest and greatest in order to want to spend a grand on a mobile phone. There just doesn’t seem to be the need for me personally despite being lucky enough to have a good job. Where I work you’ll find factory floor operatives with better smartphones than senior management. It’s down to the individual and what they like rather than personal affordability IMO.

3D Touch is still very much relevant, I think some are under the notion that 3D Touch is abolished and has no core functionality anymore on the current iPhones, when that’s not true. It’s Apple’s decision for the future iPhones of what they decide to do, but I still use 3D Touch every single day (mainly with my third-party applications) /peak/pop with notifications/emails, and I also like the haptic feedback that 3D touch provides when you’re invoking action.

I hear you, I use it daily on my phone for multiple tasks. It will be a shame if it’s actually gone, a feature that’s been unique to the iPhone

Being able to afford it doesn't mean you certainly need to buy it ‍♂️

I went from the 8+ to the XS Max, and I don't regret it at all. Do I notice the notch? Yes, when I don't have a dark background. Does it bother me? No. Honestly, it doesn't anymore. I would much rather have a larger screen with that notch, than the wasted space on the 8+. It's a dinky part of the screen, way up by the ear piece. It's not like it takes up the entire top half of the device. I make use out of mine, and will hold my thumb over the notch when using it in landscape mode. It's a great spot for holding on to the phone. I never understood how people are fine with the huge bezel on the 8+, but lose their minds over a little notch on the XS Max.

As far as FID, it took me a day or two to get used to it, simply because it seemed to take forever sometimes. I did notice though that as the days went by, FID responded much faster. I like that I can sign into a website without having to touch my user name, then hit sign in. I prefer it now, and when I have to use my husbands work phone (7+) I don't like it at all.

I LOVE the camera, battery life is great, and I don't notice impaired signal strength. It's faster than my 8+, and in general, I just prefer it. It's a beautiful phone. I think that everyone has different needs in a phone, and I realize that my needs aren't anyone elses. I LOVE playing games on mine, they look beautiful! I think it's a worthy upgrade, but you have to be commited to moving past the home button. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I’ve had some practice using the swipe gestures since the iPad supports it and I love them

Is it decent?

It’s the best phone that money can buy you right now and for at least the next three or four months. Barring some type of insane future development and resource use, it will be more than sufficient for the average user over the next five years; battery replacement notwithstanding.

Never got the continued deal with the notch. Before you get it, it’s kind of annoying to know it’s gonna be there, but after using it a little while, it’s easy to get to the point where you just forget about it unless somebody else brings it up.

Have yet to have reception problems.

Having this big OLED display is great.

Bottom-line: This is probably the thing for you. Doubt you’ll regret it, because of all the reasons this is right for you.
