Every year we like to take a fresh look at the different shortcut options that are available to use with the Shortcuts app on iOS devices and Mac, just to see what's new. We've found several useful shortcut options and rounded them up for MacRumors readers.

  • Internet Radio Search - Internet Radio Search is designed to allow you to search for, select, and play various internet radio stations.
  • Play Entire Current Album - If you're playing an Apple Music song and you want to listen to the entire album, this is the shortcut to get. It finds the album that the currently playing track belongs to and then plays the full album.
  • Search On - Search On is a search anything tool. When you run the shortcut, it provides a sheet of options, so you type in what you're looking for and then you can choose to search Google, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, Amazon and other sources.
  • Shazam++ - Shazam++ lets you Shazam a song and then open it on your favorite music platform, giving you a quick way to listen to Shazamed content on any music service of your choice. It also provides artist, album, and song info, lyrics, sharing tools, and more.
  • iPod Shuffle - iPod Shuffle creates a random 100 song shuffle list of the songs you have added to Apple Music over the years. You can select different timeframes, such as the past year, past two years, or past three years.
  • Redditer - Redditer is a simple shortcut that lets you go directly to your favorite subreddit.
  • Built-in Sounds - This shortcut plays the Background Sounds built into iOS devices, but you don't need to go to the Accessibility settings to get to them.
  • Open App on Apple TV 1 - This simple shortcut is designed to wake up your Apple TV and launch the app that you select, such as the TV app.

My favorite of all time:

My favorite and only shortcuts:
  • When battery level is 100%, turn off smart plug.
  • At sunrise, set brightness to 15%.
  • At sunset, set brightness to 5%.
(Auto-brightness and true tone is off to turn off light sensor in order to save battery.)

The one to Open an app on Apple TV throws an error. It says there's no such app, and offers to search the
App Store, but never goes there.

Never mind. Doesn't work on Mac. Come on Apple, I want to use my
Stream Deck to control apps on my Apple TV!

"Fast Charge" turns on airplane mode and low battery mode for when you're short on time and need some power. Pair it with a USB-C 20W connection, my percentage shoots up like an absolute rocket. Also great for slowing your battery usage to almost nothing when you cozy up somewhere with wifi. Then I have a "Back to normal" shortcut when I pick the phone up and leave.

Toggle Dark Mode without having to go into Control Center.

I can better that one (depending on when/why you use dark mode of course). I have this as an automation at sunrise/sunset. Triggers without having to push anything (and I can still switch in control center).

Created a shortcut to take me straight to passwords saves me so much time

I am not brillant with Shortcuts, and tried to create this one, but find no options with settings to go to a specific section like passwords. Any hint on how you set it up?

My own most used ones are simple.

COVID Passport: Fetches a PDF from Files and shows on screen. Have been travelling recently and not having any support app for that made it handy not to have to dig through Files for the PDF.

Set Volume: Just a list with the options of setting sound volume to 1–3%. Using at night when watching YouTube in bed. The lowest volume setting is way way too loud.

Directions to Next Event: Love this one. I usually put destinations in meetings in the calendar, and this one will give me the destination to the next one coming up. When I didn’t have CarPlay which sometimes fetches this for me, this one was a savour.

Also use this to get one of the limitations of Apple Maps, which is when I want to plan a longer trip with several destinations: I give them a time slot in the calendar, and this shortcut serve them to me in order.

Yeah, I use that, too. It’s awesome :)
But sometimes I want to toggle dark mode before or light mode after this kicks in.
Not often, but it can be useful.

"search on" would be amazing if you could launch it from some selected text in any app. Is something like that possible with shortcuts?

I wrote a Shortcut much like ”Search on” but I called it ”Search on…” but with it you could mark a word or words anywhere, click the share button and Search On… a bunch of sites including searching for images on google, bing, ddg etc.

Also with a few tools built in, word count, define word etc…

I haven’t updated it in years, maybe I’ll do that now.
