This is just an observation and is not my opinion on this thread.

Whenever a newbie or other posts a thread that has the slightest hint of being illegal e.g serialz, cracks, passwords etc it is wastelanded almost immediately.

Most users on this forum also look down upon limewire, kazaa and the such yet people love this thread. The funny thing is, the main content of this thread is the illegal posting of copyright images. I know if I was the photographer I'd be a little pyssed.

I just can't believe this thread has last this long considering the righteous attitudes of allot of the other members.

huh? these photos are freely available on the internet. it's not like edesignuk broke into the photographers studio and stole the piccies... they're just pics off the 'net, man...

there's also nothing wrong with talking about Kazaa or BitTorrent... for example about setting up these apps, especially BitTorrent...

Isn't music, videos and other copyright content available freely to view on the net ? Just because it's on the 'net and available doesn't mean you can just take it and use it as you please. I've had my work of mine and of clients stolen from websites and used by competitors to get work.

Your attitude towards this topic is wrong, simply wrong. So I guess it's OK to download DVDs via BitTorrent then. That would also make it OK to download music via Limewire, I don't think so.

I guess what I can't see is how any of these posted pics - which aren't exactly from deep within the vaults of anywhere - have, in any way whatsoever, caused any real or potential harm, financial or otherwise, to anyone. It's not like edesignuk's printing and selling posters of them (yet... and not like I'd offer to buy them as long as he accepted paypal or anything).

I'm not gonna go off about this, I don't want a argument, and I don't want to wind up with this thread closed.

You don't agree with it, splendid. That's your opinion, if you don't like it, can I suggest you just ignore it from now on?

Do I take it then whenever you have taken a photo, be it street shot, crowd scene at a gig or long distance panoramas featuring people in the distance, you have always without fail asked the permission of every person in frame because you haven't been given the rights to take photographs of their image?

Thought not. But I bet you still took those pics anyway.

okay, in this case i am going to get all righteous on your ass. this OT discussion is highly irregular... there are many other threads about the morals involved with what you're suggesting (any you'll notice i don't post in those thread either... ;)) but i just have to say...

yes, it is okay do download music via BitTorrent nothing the RIAA or anyone else can do about that...

and what about all the other sites out there that use these exact same pictures, and resize them to smaller versions and put their own watermark on them. they have ads on their site, and do profit from these pics, because they bring people and generate money via the advertising...

anyway, he's only using way less than 10% of the original... which makes it 100% okay to do.

I agree with edesignuk. Let's not steer this thread off course. It's been fun to view and participate in, and I'd also like to keep it that way. Nice weather we're having, isn't it?

Yes, how about those Red Sox? I bet Keira loves the Sox.
There, that should bring us back on topic.

Comparing apples and oranges as far as I can tell...

I don't want to speak for the mods, but I don't think that they have a problem with this either. The only comment I remember was about not turning into a post tracking/counting thread for edesignuk's web hits.

The thread is not about how to obtain/distribute pictures, but about a person Keira, as I see it.

I wonder if there are any pictures of Keira in red socks? I bet they'd look great on her! I wonder if it's sunny where she is now? I bet it is. I think she makes it sunny wherever she is. I wonder who her favorite football/soccer team is?

Actually, red stockings would be nicer.

Mmmm. Stockings. Reminds me of Christmas. I wonder what Keira would like for Christmas?

I like you, because you say what you're thinking, you're not just doing what the majority do to fit in and go with the popular flow.

You are exactly right and with a truthful sentiment you are doing your best to steady the boat without unsettling those who have already put the boat in an unsustainable position.

It ultimately comes down to - Who has the biggest gun and do as I say not as I do,

Macrumors is like a world model, moderaters/politicians who trade grace and favour loosely veiled as justice and honor.

The alternative is along the lines of "one mans terrorist is another mans freedom fighter" the problem is you need an awful lot of support to get that one off the ground, so much support that the solution generally turns out to be as corrupt as the system you are trying to over throw.

anyone else got any ideas on improving human justice?

Google -> images -> christmas stockings
Christmas stockings? Christmas stockings?!? NO! I meant sexy, a merrywidow or something with garters. Not Christmas stockings! Please! I mean, why would I want to see her in christmas stockings, or maybe really long red boots (with heels) which look like Christmas stockings with the white fluffy tops? Why? I mean, then she'd probably be wearing some short little green skirt and tight green vest and have on elf ears and maybe have a big Christmas Bag over her shoulder. And I suppose she'd be singing "Santa Baby", huh? So it'd be a video, of course, not a picture, and she'd be dancing? I mean, why would I ... um... you know, that's not a bad idea. Christmas stockings, you say?

I'm guessing that, at or near the top of her list, is "to be idolized by a bunch of random Mac geeks in an internet forum." I think it's only fair that edesignuk be the one to print up a nice card with this thread's URL on it and present it to her. I can just see the big smile on her face! Such joy, and with no real sacrifice on our part!

My God man... get a grip... I said MSPaint

As Dr. McCoy would say to Captain Kirk... "My God Jim, I'm a doctor, not a miracle worker"

Or Scottie would say, "I'm giving her all I've got Capt'n" (but with an accent).

LOL :p

In the context of this thread, that brings up a terrible mental image.... ;)

Hey, that's just what I gave my wife for Christmas LAST year!

Ahhhh, my kind of gift... the one that costs nothing... "remember honey, its the thought that counts!"
